Description

Using real maps of each city, the number of real world landmarks and non-landmarks (if you live in the downtown districts of any of the listed cities, don't be surprised to see your humble abode making a guest appearance) is astonishingly detailed. All of this you might notice as you whiz by in Corvette Z06 at a silky smooth 60fps. But your aim in Project Gotham (not a final name) isn't just to cross the finish line first; you have to do it with style and you have to be willing to risk everything to prove that you are the best. The game rewards you equally for your speed, your style, and for your daring in the form of Kudos (no, not the candy bar).

Overall: when you go back to play this after PGR2 there is some difference... i mark this ghame with extra points for the one good thing that came out of it: PGR2
Gameplay: gameplay was really made great by the kudos system... but the small choice of tracks and cars affect the fun and longetivity of the game
Graphics: visually better than the best on ps2... but we now know just how good the visuals on xbox can be... I feel it started the trend of graphically impressive games on xbox.
Sound: sound is average, and cars all sound alike... all these points together show how PGR was a good game... but PGR2 has showed us how good it can get
Suggestions: concept cars... and the ability to drive around the city... because it is all modelled... but just sectioned off into tracks... but i think that bizare know what to do!!

Overall: Excellent racer. Great tunes. Great courses. Just a ton of fun and a great way to spend an hour or five!
Gameplay: Really fun. Good controller feed back and responsiveness. Not sure how you could want more from your controller and the engine that supports the game is really accurate and responds well to the users commands.
Graphics: Excellent. This game has some really good looking back ground scenery, the cars are great, the tracks and roads themselves are really good looking too. This looks good on my 57" HDTV! Nice job!
Sound: Very good. Sounds like what you'd want a racer to sound like. Good highs and lows in the audio spectrum, the subwoofer was poundin along with my heart playing this title. Nice job.
Suggestions: Very good. I have not had a chance to check out the new title yet but will soon. So I'll say this, thanks for making a great and very fun game. I hope my expectations of the next title are met, I'm sure they will be. Good work.

Overall: I am sad to see this was the best racer on xbox because it really isn't that good and for the most part not very fun. I forced myself to like it but I'll rent tHe second one but I doubt I like that game either if it is like this one.
Gameplay: It seemed so hard and I began giving up because it became such a drag to play. Some tracks were nice though.
Graphics: Visuals for this game were good especially for how long it has been out. The night time is cool shows off the shadows and shines off the street looks pretty realistic. Car models were great. I didn't like the control of most of the cars but the levels and effects did look really good.
Sound: I don't know, normal I guess. Cool with radio that is about it. I don't pay much attention to sound really.
Suggestions: Make it fun, easier to begin with, I wish I never bought this game. You got the second one out maybe it is better.

Overall: A really good driving game. Tons of cars and tracks with a lot of depth. There are lots of challenges to do so it should keep you busy for awhile.
Gameplay: Gameplay is really good as well. The physics are rather realistic and all the cars really do handle, accelerate, and brake differently. Controls are nice and easy to use.
Graphics: The visuals are great. Really realistic looking. The background scenery is really nice as well as the cars.
Sound: The sound is really good from a car guys point of view. The Ferrari 360 really sounds like a flat crank V8. I always turn the sound up on that one.
Suggestions: The tracks could be a bit longer next time. Otherwise, a very solid effort.

Overall: I don't like the game at all. The levels are too short and the turns in most of the levels are ridiculous. I like games like Grand Turismo.
Gameplay: I don't like the idea of Kudos points and other stuff like that. I like to race computer cars when playing single player mode. I didn't like the idea of Kudos points. I also didn't like the Crappy levels. Also the game should have been made system link compatiable.
Graphics: The graphics are nice and the cars are nice. I like the different types of cars the game has to offer but I wish there were better cars.
Sound: I like that you can play your own custom music while racing. This is one of the reasons why I purchased the game.
Suggestions: Make the levels longer, and add nicer/better cars. Also add new levels. I don't really like the crappy levels that the game has to offer. Also get rid of the Kudos junk and make it so when a person plays in Single Player mode they race other computer racers. The kudos points junk annoyed me, especially on boards with all the stupid turns, etc... Also make the game XBOX Live & System Link Compatiable.

Overall: Project Gotham Racing, along with Halo, was a real treat when the Xbox first came out. The ability to use custom soundtracks delivered on the initial promises of the Xbox. The graphics are still fairly tight, the sound excellent, and the gameplay intuitive and addictive. Right now you can pick this game up for cheap, so it's a great buy for the money.
Gameplay: Overall the controls are very arcade like and easy to use, working well with the traditional controller. Still timed games can make the addictive gameplayer edgy with the randomness of the soundtracks. Unlocking cars and being able to manipulate their look is excellent.
Graphics: Initially I was most impressed with graphics. A visual feast that I enjoyed far more than Grand Turismo 3 on my friend's PS2. With the release of Gotham 2, however, we can see how things improve over time.
Sound: The sound for the most part was terrific. Engine noises to music, everything is quite satisfactory.

Overall: Good arcade-simulation racer. I now have the second one so I won't rate this as high as it should be.
Gameplay: Good fun levels. Love the cars. The F50 is sweet. Earn style points to unlock more cars(kudos). The graphics are pretty sweet.
Graphics: Good graphics. Cars look real so do the tracks. Also the smke from your car looks pretty sweet. Overall okay graphics but I like PGR2's better.
Sound: Custom soundtracks! The radio stations are pretty cool. The cars sound neat and shifty(whatever that is)

Overall: Sometimes, you just cannot trust your gut instinct. Unfortunately, with all the abysmal games out there at the moment, finding a genuinely enjoyable game for the X-Box is getting more and more difficult. PGR is a good example of why. It quickly gets stuck in the middle of no man's land, being too difficult to appeal on the basis of arcade-style enjoyment, but not being difficult enough to be a simulation. Is it any wonder that the video games industry is in such a quandry?
Gameplay: Douglas Adams once wrote of a sleek, beautiful looking spaceship that seemed to just swallow light. One of the characters stated that it moved like a fish, but steered like a cow. That's how the steering feels in PGR. When you're moving along a straight road, everything is fine, but as soon as you go into a turn, you can count on losing the race to any AI opponent, which is the downfall of every racing game from Pole Position to Gran Tourismo - if you don't make the player feel like they are in control of the game and that their idea of a good performance will be rewarded, they will stop playing. It's really as simple as that.
Graphics: Visually speaking, I cannot fault the game. Everything looks nice and realistic, although some of the backgrounds are a little too static. Still, this gives rise to the belief that the developers spent too much time on the look of the game and not enough on the feel.
Sound: Kudos (no pun intended) to the developer for including the custom soundtrack idea. Now could we just make it a little easier to use? Furthermore, could we make it a little easier to balance the music in relation to the sound effects? Unless you use the ready-made soundtrack, chances are that you won't hear the custom soundtrack that you took so much time to put together.
Suggestions: Look up the word fun in the dictionary. The people do not exist to buy your video game - your video game exists to entertain them. Keep that in mind for the next sequel that I probably won't buy anyway.

Overall: Project Gotham Racing is a really fun game that you can either just pick up and play, or actually try to play through the game. Either way, it's addicting.
Gameplay: The gameplay is very fun, and can be extremely addicting. I love the kudos system, and it's fun to have competitions between your friends.
Graphics: Project gotham Racing has very very good graphics for the time it was released, and the graphics are still good by today's standards.
Sound: I didn't notice the sound too much in PGR, so it wasn't really great, or really bad. I do know that the car sounds were pretty well done though

Overall: Project Gotham Racing is one of the premier driving games I have played. Great graphics for the time and excellent gameplay. Also, certainly challenging races.
Gameplay: The controls are quick to pick up and work well with the game. The cars move and slide rather true to life, making the game that much more enjoyable.
Graphics: The cars are excellently detailed. The environments are also very pleasing to the eye. I've never been to any of the locations in the game, but I'd feel confident in saying that they'd look relatively close to how they do in the game
Sound: The sound is great. Well, the original music is crappy, but my custom soundtrack rocks which is what makes the sound in this game awesome. Also, nothing wrong with the SFX in this game.
Suggestions: Keep up the good work

Overall: I know I'm a bit late on the review but oh well... PGR is the first installment of what will hopefully be a high quality and long runing series. Its fun, has good music and looks good to boot (at the time at least).
Gameplay: Theres plenty of modes to keep you interested... From normal point to point races to blazing through cone courses at high speeds and doing it with style. Also, the unlockable helmets and cars after you drive so many miles or for a certain amount of time keep you playing.
Graphics: At the time, PGR had some of the best graphics ever seen in a racer. The cars look very realistic and the damage looks so real you feel like you need a neck brace after hitting a wall doing 100.
Sound: Theres some good music already on it but the best thing is custom soundtrack support. Nothing like doing 140 to some AC/DC.
Suggestions: My suggestions would just be more cars and more ways to earn Kudos. But, now that PGR2 is out theres no point to this. Just keep up the good work!

Gameplay: I like to career mode. Arcade play has kept me occupied for hours. Here is an instance when a cheat code is welcomed. Too much is blocked off and too few cars available. I love the courses and the handling of the cars. the kudos is an interesting version for game play.
Graphics: Looks are great. The Cars ,the venues are all top rate. What else can a guy say to make up a hundr

Gameplay: What made this game challenfing is that you had to get some kudos points to win some races, sometimes it was fun sometimes i didnt like it. Theres a good amount of cars but should have been alot more. But the gameplay is nice and thats whats important.
Graphics: The graphics on the cars were pretty good. The only thing i didnt like about the graphics is that the building seemed flat.

Wished they'd made it linkable, we need a good racer that system linkable.

Gameplay: I love the way the cars handle, the kudos are just an added bonus. Easy to get into for a non-racing fan.
Graphics: Graphics are top-notch, especially since this was a release title for the xbox. No complaints in this department!

Overall: This arcade style racer puts a nice spin on what could have easily been a very boring title for the xbox
Gameplay: The gameplay is very addictive. Most levels and goals are based on KUDOS, KUDOS are points, gained by jumping, sliding, passing other cars and so on. The later levels do get annoying because they require perfect manuipulation at times.
Graphics: Visually , this game was very attractive when it was first released. The nighttime/rain stages look quite real.
Sound: The audio is somewhat average for a car game. Each car has it's own unique tone and exhaust note, But it's not unique enough. It seems like the ferrari's are the only vehicles in the game that they made a point to sound unique. I find it hard to believe a 3.0 In-Line 6 turbo skyline can sound similar to a naturally aspirated toyota MR-S, but oh well, it is an arcade racer after all.

But two thumbs up for Custom Soundtracks. A Car game MUST!

Graphics: The graphics are very solid in this game. The cars look awesome and the outside buildings and such look great.

Overall: Project Gotham Racing is an exerlant sequal to the Dreamcast classic game Metropolis Street Racer. Although MSR prooved to be much more of a challenge and took me a lot longer to cplete it, PGR came along with better grafix, better gameplay, more replay value, and better cars. To top this game off, you can cruze around in the vehicles listening to any type of music you like which you have stored on your xbox HDD. I cant wait for the sequal to this game, and especially looking forward to the xbox live for it as maybe i can find a challenge on it as my friends proove no match for me.
This game is a nice pick up and play game. Weather im with some friends and i want to kick their ass, or i can challenge the computer on quik race mode, arcade chalenge, kudos challenge and medal persuit, or if i dont feel liek challenges, i will go and try beat a second off my lap times on time trials.
Gameplay: This game is a challenging, fast, game that all depends on your skill as a racer. This game gives points for drving skill and for gambling in the game. You can do time trials, medla persuit to earn more paint jobs for your cars, arcade and quik race to earn more cars, and kudos challenge to go through a series of challenges which get more and more difficult throughout.
The game handles perfectly. It is not too slippery, apart from when driving in the rain. It handles smoothly and responsively depending on the car. Overall it is very precise.
Graphics: The grafix on the game are average. The car details are of a top quality standard, but the worlds could do with some more quality textures etc. With the power of xbox the game makers could do more with the xbox's framerate.
Sound: The sound is high quality with exerlant, realistic, sound fx. Each car sounds different when you rev them up. To top it off you can play your own music aswell as the music on the game already. You can make your own CDs to listen to from the music you saved on your HDD.
Suggestions: The only suggestions i can make are:
-to improve the environments in graffix and details
-to make PGR2 online enabled!

Overall: The game is awesomely realistic, with the details and the way the cars are a lot different to maneuver.
It is a great addition to your Xbox Game collection, and I just cant wait for PGR2.
Gameplay: As it is said in the box, race alone, will not win this race.
It makes a real point cuz it is not just about seeing who gets to the finish line first, it?s about how you do it and how fast...
Anyways sometimes in multiplayer the one on one races may get boring, but you should just find more friends or buy more controllers.
Graphics: As I said before, and I emphazise it, It looks almost REAL! The cars are the same as if they shoved the cars right into the game.
Sound: The coolest thing, after the game,is the ability to play your own tracks and changing the volume of the environment, the music and the engines.
Also you can turn on the stereo and hear at the various commentaries of... the guys who talk in the radio.
My favorite is the 10.5 live broadcaster, oh right, he is pretty funny.

Overall: Gameplay is great, excellent modes, lots of different ways to play the game. Graphics and sound are amazing, top notch by far.

Two player option is not nearly as good as the real game.. can't even use a manual shift???!!! Quite disappointing and very limited multiplayer.

Other problem with the game is that the cars don't get damaged. You can smash into anything you want, and although your car looks damaged, drives like it is brand new.
Gameplay: Gameplay, feel, handling in the one player mode is great.. love the different types of play ,and quite a challenging game to get all the way through and win the ferari.
Graphics: Visuals are amazing. Top notch, as noted before. Can't ask for anything better in this game. Realistic cities and cars.. (I even think I remember the buildings from driving down Broadway in NYC).
Sound: Sound is awesome, great original track, and love the radio option, and the ability to put in your own music to drive to. Excellent sound.

Overall: Damn! Great graphics. Great gameplay too, best racing game I've ever played straight up. This game has everything, music, graphics, and a FUN gameplay.
Gameplay: Three diffrent modes, all of which are fun. The Kudos system (points for doing slides, two wheels, getting air etc. and multiplied for speed, lost for hitting walls) is really cool, it defines how good a driver you are. The game fits the controler, so you dont have to go buy one of those driving wheels.
Graphics: Best graphics on the xbox, just look at the back of the box or a screenshot... the tracks are good looking too, wheater your moving at 5 or 150 mph.
Sound: Another great sound track, where you can make your own cd, or listen to a radio station corresponding to the city your in, with something for everyone, with rock in cal, hiphop in ny and other stuff in the other places. Realistic car noises, not the usual random squeaking of the tires you normally hear.
Suggestions: I'd recomend a sequel, but your already making one. So... More cities definitely I'm sure you could fit a bunch more on the cd. And let you preview the songs when your creating a cd so you dont have to remember the names of the songs you like. Everything else is great though!!!

Overall: Project Gotham Racing is a stylish racing game created by Bizarre Creations adn Microsoft. It's set in San Francisco, New York, London, and Tokyo. The game is not based on speed, because speed alone can not win this game. You need speed to win the race, but the style of your racing is important too. The game is an enhanced remake of Metropolis Street Racer for Dreamcast. Project Gotham Racing is one of the best street racing games ever and it is certainly much better than the Grand Turismo series on PlayStation 2.
Gameplay: Racing with not only speed, but also style, is the main concept of the game. You race through four amazing cities with great cars. The more you win, the more Kudos points you will get. The more Kudos points you get, the more courses and cars you will unlock. Controls are the same as every other usual racing game. There are several modes including a multiplayer mode. The game could get boring, but it is really a true racing masterpiece. I do not recommend it for beginners, because you need to have a great skill at racing games to get a lot of Kudos points. There is a very large variety of cars and courses to chose from also.
Graphics: Simply amazing. The cities, buildings, and monuments have excellent visuals. The visuals of the cars are fabulous. The Xbox's graphical capabilities have really been used in Project Gotham Racing. From car damage to car visuals, everything is highly detailed. Both cities and cars are really photo-realistic. The time and weather effects have been also used quite well during the game.
Sound: The sound effects in Project Gotham Racing are really cool. Car collision and car sliding have realistic sounds. Project Gotham Racing is one of the games, which can use the Xbox's soundtrack, so that you can listen to your own music while driving. But why use your own music, when you can listen to the dozens of songs that the game can offer. There is an overall CD in the game that you can listen to, or you can listen to radio stations. Each city in the game has their own radio stations, which have different types of music.
Suggestions: A sequel would not be necessary. However, I do suggest an online version of Project Gotham Racing, so that people from all over the world can compete against each other. In my opinion, the Kudos point system is a new way of racing, but I didn't too much like it. The developer could have made the game a bit easier for the beginners. Project Gotham Racing is still an excellent racing game, exclusive for the Xbox console.

Overall: This game is a very fast pace racing game. And this game really is awesome. It has every thing you need to a beatle to a f1 Mclaren. Plus in this game there are many exciting track with secret roads you can travel on and I recommend this for thos who have a need to speed.
Gameplay: Very quick decisive gameplay. Yep thats right in this game while your playing you got to make quick descisions. Why you ask? Because the realism in the cars is so great that if you turn with out breaking you'll find your self hitting a wall. But other wise game play is intense and smooth.
Graphics: Great graphics. Just amazing , I mean you can see reflections in the cars nice wax job. The visuality in this game is better then any car game i have ever played. Beleive me I would know , I was around win super nintendo was a big thing.
Sound: Let's just say this , when I started to play this game and when I hit my breaks the first time my freinds thought that some one had a car crash right outside. The sound is justs so ..... LOUD.
Suggestions: Make even more racing tracks !

Overall: Extremely realistic game. I couldn't believe how the game felt and looked graphically. The radio was also a great touch, it was really cool to listen to different types of radio stations for different countries/cities.
Gameplay: The physics were done incredibly good in this game, the power-slides and the jumps were pretty fun to perform. It was also challenging unlike some games.
Graphics: The graphics were awesome also the real-time reflections were really nice. although the reflections were kind of laggy which looked weird. The models of the cars and the bumps and hills of the cities were done really well. It felt real.
Sound: The engine sounds of each car were really good. the sound when you hit a car was a little too bland, it should have had more of crunch, also when the lights or mirror were crunched a sound of glass, or plastic or at least something would have been nice. Also the radio-stations were really good, the selection of songs was pretty sweet.

Overall: Fun arcade racer with a single player experience that can cause you throw your controller and a mulitplayer experience that will keep you coming back for more. A good balanced selection of licensed cars that include choices from popular American, Japanese, European and exotic sport cars. The numerous tracks are well designed and cover a good evenly spread spectrum of difficulty.
Gameplay: The game feels and controls incredibly well for an arcade racer. Do not load this game expecting realistic physics, this is a hardcore arcade experience and it does it extremely well. The controls are very responsive with excellent feedback.
Graphics: Very nice, the cars are very well done with reflections and real time damage. The framerate is smooth even in a four player split-screen game. The numerous tracks are detailed and varied enough to keep you occupied for long time coming.
Sound: The cars sound great and have a different engine sound for each model. For those of us with surround sound will enjoy a much deeper experience being able to hear the other cars coming from behind. To top it off the game support user soundtracks which should be a must for any racing game.

Overall: My overall appeal for this game is a big fat 5! This is a really really REALLY uniqe raceing game! The graphics are breathtakeing and the sound quality is completly awsome. Even though this game may not have a lot of cars or tracks it's a really fun and addictive game that i havent got tired of yet. I really recommend renting or buying this game(preferable renting since pgr 2 is on its way) There's only a few minor mistakes in this game that you really don't notice since you'll be cought up in all the action. And if your a big grand tourismo fan then i would check this game out. This game may not seem all that great now since its one of the older games but its is a really fun game! And the only thing that may suck about it is kudos! You HAVE to be and expert to be getting a lot of kudos. It about drives you mad. And also, this game is one of them were your on the last lap and you swear your way ahead of all the cars but then you crash(or not) and every car passes you! So like i said if you can get past the anger manegment then this is a really fun game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is fairly realistic as for a raceing game. You tend to slide out of control more than what you think you would! But i guess you would expect something like that as seeing how this game pretty much ties in reallife raceing(except the part were you go 200 down a local neighboorhood)If you pic up a ferrari or doge you'll go flying down the street laughing at the sight of victory but once that next turn comes you'll be crying at the sound of defeat. But with cars like the Focus you take it slow and easy so its really easy to make the turns. And watch out for the gravle(its baaaaaaaaaad) As for the controls. They arent too tight but at times they will get touchy and make you want to bash your xbox! But the crashes are...WEAK! They are only finder benders*rolls eyes*
Graphics: When i saw the graphics on this game i was falling out of my chair! These are by far the best raceing game graphics i've seen for the xbox. When im crusing along the streets at night you can see the reflections of the lights. And the car graphics are the best in this game(duh)It's like seeing a car in real life with my very own eyes! The cities graphics are good too. As you race down the track you'll drive by a local taco bell! Even some toystores! Also on the buildings you'll see bilboards like got milk or just people showing of their faces. You all may not pay attention of this but if your driving while its raining you can see the puddles of water on the street and the water splashing on the tires of your car.
Sound: Games sound.....AWSOME! Each car has their own engine sounding. I mean that by the slower cars their engine sounds all rough and crappy and as for the faster cars their engine sounds fast and...FAST. That's just when your at the starting line though. When your raceing along it's about the same. The slower cars sound like crap and the faster cars sound all sporty like. As for the crashes go. They arent that great. They all sound the same and sound cheesey like the creators were in a hurry to finish the sound one this wonderfull game. Now the radio. I ACTUALLY HEARD THOSE SONGS IN REAL LIFE! The radio has great sound quality to it and all kinds of types of music. From rap to pop from rock to well...chinese.
Suggestions: More cars more tracks. More cars more tracks. BETTER CARS BETTER TRACKS! LIVE LIVE LIVE!

Also, dont put in the kudos next time it just ruins the game and makes it really hard and frustraiting. And you shouldnt make it to where on the last lap all the cars past you its no fun that way!

Where's that bat mobile? After useing GOTHAM you should at least put the bat mobile in as a unlock car with full status! That would be awsome!
