STAFF REVIEW of Project Gotham Racing (Xbox)

Project Gotham Racing Box art This is a solid game. Its also not your traditional racing game. The graphics and interesting style make it a hit, and if you own an Xbox, you have to play this game.

PGR is a new breed of racing games. Since the early days of racing games there was always one goal. It was to cross the finish line before everyone else. Other gmes modified this by adding such features like the ability to upgrade your car, or to race against a friend and whoever wins, he gets the losers car. If you want a twist on tradition, then you need to check out PGR. Its Kudos system gives you points for driving with style and grce. If you pull off a nice turn going 120MHp without crashing into a wall, you might get 40 Kudos or more. You can get Kudos for making nice sliding turns, getting air, being on two wheels, passing cars, clean driving bonuses or finishing the race before out of time are a few examples. This game has a lot of replay value because of the number of tracks. 212+ tracks and 29 cars make any game fun. Multiplayer especially. You can do races to unlock cars or tracks. A nice feature I like is the arcade races. You drive through cones that do different things. You can get a speed cone that gives you kudos based on speed. However, be careful not to run into cones or you will lose the kudos you should of gained. Kudos have a slight delay, which helps to make sure you dont cheat by getting a super nice turn getting you 40 Kudos and then run into a wall. Its all about grace and style, and running into walls isint graceful!

All of the cars look VERY realistic. The shadows and reflections are nice. The damage is also nice. If you run the left side of your car into the wall, the left side mirrorr might be bent down or proken off. However because PGR is more of an arcade game than it is a simulation game, damage doesnt effect the speed of the car. It would be nice if there was a simulation mode though. The tracks are very nice as well as the cars and so far, you cant find better graphics on any system. I would say GT3 is very good, but a little below PGR.

There are an enormous number of tracks, and they are by artists that are actually good! When you start a race, its like you are listening to the radio. There are real radio personalaties that come on after songs and introduce songs and talk just like you were listening to a radio. If you dont like any of the songs, just rip your own songs to the HD and you can play them on PGR! The sound effects with the engines roaring seems like it could be improved, but everything else is very nice and deserves a 5

Suggestions:
I could use a little more cars, like GT3 and it would be nice to upgrade your car as well to add a little realism.

Overall: 9.0 / 10
