Overall: Tom Clancy?s Ghost Recon: Island Thunder is a follow-up to the first Ghost Recon. It is principally comprised of the two original PC expansion packs to Ghost Recon (only ported to the Xbox). The game is set in a post-Castro Cuba, where a drug warlord threatens to sabotage the elections. You take control of the Ghosts (these special U.S. Army Green Berets) and follow them through a number of missions against the warlord?s ?rebels?. GR: IT has both single-player and multiplayer components, particularly focusing on the multiplayer aspect. Although this isn?t the best game (or even best Tom Clancy game) around, I still recommend it strongly to anyone who is a fan of Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy games, or any sort of action-packed strategy-based shooters.
Gameplay: As previously mentioned, GR: IT has both a single-player and a multiplayer component. In terms of gameplay, both are very similar. In the single-player part, you can play through the ?Campaign? (there is also a ?Quick Mission? mode). The design of the missions is so and so. However, I was especially impressed with their realism (this was my first Ghost Recon game too). The ?Training? mode I found to be very useful too. GR: IT is not an easy game for everyone. The Training courses give the game an easier learning curve - and maybe even add to its realism. As said, multiplayer is similar to single-player. You have your split-screen play, system link play, and of course - Xbox Live play. The interface of the game is reasonable. It?s too bad the game didn?t allow you to switch into third-person perspective. I guess you can?t have everything. Meanwhile, the controls were easy to use and allowed for effective gaming.
Graphics: The visuals of the game are all right. They are nothing in comparison to Rainbow Six or Splinter Cell, but do not take away from the fun and excitement of the game. The environments of Cuba (and for that part, Havana) are stunning. Same goes for characters - whether friendly or enemy. Because this is a Tom Clancy game (which have a strong reputation for visual grandeur), I expected the graphics to be a bit better.
Sound: Sound is a strong-point of GR: IT. Sometimes I even play this game just to HEAR it. The sound of the environments (predominantly the jungle) are great. Same goes for all other sound effects - commands between Ghosts, gunfire, and so on. Due to its realism, there is no music during gameplay. However, I can say that I enjoyed listening to that Tom Clancy-type composition heard in the menu of the game.
Suggestions: Try to develop gameplay and include more missions. Most importantly, improve the visuals of the game.

Overall: Tom Clancy does it again, another great war game. This one puts you in Havana in the year 2009, Castro has died and a power struggle for Cuba has begun.
Gameplay: There are 8 missions in this one, that make it kind of short, however Red Storm and UBI Soft come through and make another 8 levels available for download via Xbox Live.
Graphics: Nothing really changed. It still looks like Ghost Recon, which is not a bad thing, I just expected more of an improvement.
Sound: Still sounds really good, the weapons and vehicles sound realistic. And the soldiers voices also sound pretty good.
Suggestions: Great job, I just expected some improvement on the last game.

Overall: The second chapter of the Ghost Recon 1 series continues with Island Thunder. This expansion pack is packed full of new guns, AI, and maps with awesome missions.
Gameplay: Still the same gameplay, rescue, assassinate, or just kill all the bad guys you can. The live ability is also one of the best online games for the xbox.
Graphics: The graphics are almost the same as GR1, but still look great. The tanks the soldiers the buildings are all high-end and are difficult to criticize.
Sound: The sounds are great, all the guns sound real and the voice communication is superb. The music suits well in the briefing and menu screens as well.

Overall: Tom Clancy is back with another simultation style tactical shooter in the Ghost Recon series. Island Thunder is the title of this entertaining and engrossing, albeit short, game.
Gameplay: Island Thunder IMO has the best story out of all the Tom Clancy games out there, which made me play through the campaign more than once.. something their other games did not. The weaponary you can choose from is 100% authentic, adding to the simulation goodness this game offers. Though the campaign is too short, the game does offer online playability, which makes this game one you fell good about buying and displaying.
Graphics: The visuals are very good. The trees, the grass, the mountatins, the models.. everything. Though I hate invisible walls, I understand they must be there. Overall this is one of the best looking games on the XBOX.
Sound: Once again the Tom Clacny games offer the best in voice-acting, gun and explosion effects, and all around great sounds. Keep them coming Red Storm.
Suggestions: More sequels, longer campaigns.

Overall: this is a game that you can't stop playing ones you are online you get addicted to it looks good an is fun to play
Gameplay: it is reletively easy to pick up the move's the controles are easy to remember and it is easy an fune to play this game online its fune to hear bullets flying past your easr en hear them hitting the ground near you so then you know that thay are schooting at you but now you nead to escape ore kill them thats when the thinking comes in to the game its kill ore be killed
Graphics: the graphics are good allright not as good as rainbowsix3 but you dont dont nead graphics like that on this game couse you are to busy doging bullets and the graphics are not that bad i am stil giving the graphics a 4 out of 5 thay are good the level's on this game are beautifulful thare has been alot of work put in to them what makes the'm that bit better and i have not played a game with better leves yet and i have played a few games but nothing mathes thease level's
Sound: the sound's are realy good you dont only hear them shooting you but you hear the bullets hitting you and your surounding's and its alway's nice to know when thay are shooting you couse you dont alway's get hit with the thirst bullet so you still have a chance to get away if you dont die with the sound of a sniper rifle bullet hitting you in the head then you can still run for cover
Suggestions: there are stil to many ways for players to cheat like gltching i know you can't get rid of them but maybe in the next one try not to have as many in the levels

Overall: Awesome first-person shooter with squad based elements.

This game has beautiful maps as well as charcter detail and the realism is just amazing.
Gameplay: Getting ino this game relatively easy. Pick your squad, equip them and your set.

Hardest time I had with Rainbow 6 games was all the planning aspect of those games. Found it alot of work to do in order to play the game. Mind you I realize that it makes for a much more intellectual experience. Only thing is I don't have the time to invest in such games.

Also enjoyed the ability to switch players on the fly.

I haven't played this game on Live yet but have read that is is pretty sweet as well. I love the fact that they keep coming out with downloadable maps. Makes it alot more fun.

Graphics: The game is beautiful. From the weather effects right down to the backgrounds and charater models. A nice looking game.
Sound: Nothing sounds assweet as bullets wizzing by your head. Very intense and realistic. Great job in the sound department.

Snake Eyez
Date reviewed: December 18, 2003.

Overall: This is an expansion to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon game. It adds new weapons and a new location to the original game.
Gameplay: It is a FPS in which you command a squad of troops against foreign targets. Makes use of all the buttons on the controller. Controlling the other squad is accomplished by looking at a map and then pointing to where they squad showed go. Not as detailed as RS3. When ever you move, your squad follows. This can get annoying for situations when you want to sneak up on something, but can't leave the rest of the squad behind. No real improvements over the previous version.
Graphics: Not as good as Splinter Cell or RS3. The environment is filled with detail and there is plenty of eye candy to be had. The detail is lost when views closely especially in the soldiers faces. Again, no real improvement over the first Ghost Recon.
Sound: Sound is pretty detailed to try to give the gamer the best experience. With 5.1 you can tell where the bullets are coming from as they pass by you. I like to crank the volume way up and try to experience the game.
Suggestions: More missions would have been great.

Gameplay: Gameplay is preety fun, kind of real, major glitches though will ruin the game, and lag also, those are a few of the problems.
Graphics: Well...graphics could use a MAJOR tune up, look like they are imported straight from PC! That is the only fault on graphics.
Sound: Sound is AWESOME! The thunder and rain sounds so real, i was amazed when i first heard it, and the gun shots sound so cool, some of the best sound ive ever heard!

Overall: Ok this game is really good but it has some downers. The online mode is really good and will have you playing for hours, but if you got rainbow six 3...dont bother getting this game.
Gameplay: There are lots of gameplay modes available for you to mess about with. Online play can be a lot of fun. Can get a bit repetetive sometimes though but the online co-op missions are good and the download content will have you playing for a bit longer.
Graphics: O.k the visuals are not the best thing on this game, there is only one level that i can think of that has quite good visuals and that is Island Village. But it doesnt matter about the graphics if you liked the first ghost recon because they were never meant to be good.
Sound: sound...hmmmm, not the best thing on the game, nothing much to say really, some of the gun shots r good i suppose..

Gameplay: well like i said i didnt realy like the game play because it made the game to easy and it was so life like with the way that u die and what not

Graphics: the graphics werent that good that why i gave it a two its like the may payne boxead graphics. For the second one i thought that they might make it better than the first but there practicaly the same

Sound: the sounds i gave a good raiting to is becasue when u fire ur gun u can automaticaly go to the place that the gun was fired at but it was like splinter cell unless u were playing with alot of people then it was like silent inless u played on a small map

Graphics: Visually its kind of choppy in places but still a pretty good looking game. Lots of aspects to the surroundings.

Overall: Ghost Recon: Island Thunder is the second installment in the Ghost Recon franchise for xbox. Island Thunder is an improvement over the original Ghost Recon but not a drastic one. But with improved graphics, a whole new story, and tons of multiplayer fun, Ghost Recon: Island Thunder proves to be another excellent installment by Red Storm.

When terrorism is raging in Cuba...you and the Ghosts are sent to stop it.
Gameplay: The control scheme in IT is the same as the original Ghost Recon. Nothing too difficult about the control scheme, so begginers and experienced Ghosts alike, get the hang of it quick. Island Thunder provides yet another intriguing storyline leaving you dumped off in Cuba to fight off the hordes of terrorists. A new feature in IT is vehicles. But don't get your hopes up people...you cannot use them. However, the enemies do use them, and it is not to your advantage. Sometimes vehicles will come out of nowhere carrying soldiers who are shooting at you from inside the vehicles, and from behind them. AI is still very good in Island Thunder. Soldiers will use the environment to their advantage. They will hide behind vehicles, use trees for cover, and get into a prone position to avoid being shot. Island Thunder has many new weapons to assist you in your terrorist hunt, each with unique capabilities. This includes the mounted grenade launcher. In the original Ghost Recon, you would occasionally find mounted machine guns. Well...now you will find mounted AUTOMATIC grenade launchers. Yep..you heard me. Automatic. You can launch an unlimited (as long as the weapon doesn't overheat) amount of grenades at your opponents, as they run frantically trying to dodge the explosions. One thing that Ghost Recon lacked was obstacles to hide behind. Normally you were running around, frantically shooting your weapon. In Island Thunder, to put it quite simply...the problem is fixed. In every level you will find an obstacle to crouch behind, reload, and pop out again to destroy the oncoming enemies. The one downside about the gameplay in Island Thunder is the lack of missions. Sure, Ghost Recon didn't have many...but this is pathetic. Even with the awesome gameplay, I would not recommend paying the cash for Island Thunder. This game can be finished in little over an hour if you are experienced in Ghost Recon, and probably a little over two hours if you are a beginner. The multiplayer experience in Island Thunder exceeds the original Ghost Recon by far. Many more maps, and weapons in Island Thunder. Most of the maps are very well suited for multiplayer gameplay, and will not leave you disapointed.
Graphics: The graphics in Ghost Recon: Island Thunder are improved...but not by much. Environments look a bit better as well as the characters, but the game still falls short of what it should be in the visual department. Environments are still blocky, and not extremely detailed. Although, they did improve some major flaws from Ghost Recon. Remember the night vision bug from the original game? You could see through rain, when you turned on night vision. Well..the bug is fixed. It is nearly impossible to see now when it is raining.
Sound: The sounds of Ghost Recon: Island Thunder are the same of the original. Guns sound like they should, explosions are decent, voice overs are decent, and everything is as it should be. No really noticable flaws in the sound department.
Suggestions: Next time you make an expansion pack, make sure to include, oh I dunno...about double the missions! This game was far too short, and even with the slightly lowered price it is not worth the cash. Other than that, just improve the graphics, and keep making great games!

Overall: Better then the first installment of the game. The graphics are better. But the game play is still, camp, or be camped (talking about Multiplayer).
Gameplay: I dislike this style of game play. I don't like it how you have to be the camper and sniper to be the winner. I find it annoying. Selecting weapons is still a hastle and a half!
Graphics: Better then the original, but not by all that much. Still pretty weak, they need a new graphics engine badly!
Sound: Same old stuff.
Suggestions: Get a new graphics engine, and rework the combat system!

Overall: Other than the graphics this game is almost perfect. The original was a fan-favourite on Xbox Live and I'm sure this one will be even more popular and if your in Canada buy this game before October 31st 20030 because then you'll get a $10 rebate and the game will only be $39.99 CND! A great game for $39.99 ... doesn't get much better than that.
Gameplay: Since this is an expansion pack... the gameplay didn't change but that's a good thing since the original Ghost Recon had excellent gameplay. Lots of people complained because you couldn't see the gun your holding but once you play Ghost Recon you'll realize that it's for the better since usually the first person to spot an enemy will get the kill since it only takes about 1 or 2 shots to kill. The controls are exactly like 90% of the other FPS titles on Xbox... copying Halo's controls though none of us would have it any other way. The Ghost Recon franchise has always been very realistic and to be good in the game you will require a little bit of patience because if you run around the field guns blazing you'll get killed VERY fast. The A.I. is still great during campaigns and as bots in multiplayer, although you have to tell them EXACTLY where to go they still know how to shoot n kill very well
Graphics: I wasn't impressed with the graphics before and now that even more games came out with great graphics I'm even more dissapointed with Red Storm. I know its a port AND an expansion pack but they could've improved it a little just so that we don't have to stare at 2D leaves on the trees. The character models are still very good but everything else stayed the same. At least its not the ugliest Xbox game yet but it would have been great if it were one of the best looking games on Xbox.
Sound: In a game like this you need real good sound to pinpoint where a shot came from or how far the footsteps your hearing are from you so obviously Red Storm knew they had to make it great. The sound hasn't changed and so it's still great but I just wish Red Storm could've tweaked the sound a little to make it as good as games like Medal of Honor or Counterstrike. Don't get me wrong, it's great but knowing Red Storm they could've done a much better job. Obviously the sound hasn't changed but I wish it did a little so I can't give it the same score I did before.
Suggestions: Even though it's a port you could've updated the graphics.

Overall: This game is very fun. It reminds me of another game though. Huh, wonder why. Okay, so in general, this game is relatively good. The XBL play is really fun, not as fun as some other games but still really fun. The sound is really realistic(and kind of insane in that respect)
Gameplay: The game's gameplay is really good. It works like any other RS game or Tom Clancy game, covertness is key and little shooting, unless absolutely necessary, unless you're playing XBL. The XBL is great for this game, as it was kinda made just for XBL, in a sense. Overall, the gameplay is really fun.
Graphics: The graphics are...meh. Ubi soft has improved a little on the original Ghost, but still, its not top notch like it should be, like RS3, and all those other awesome Ubi Soft Tom Clancy games.
Sound: The sound in the game is great. Like any other Tom Clancy game, the sounds are really realistic and you hear pretty much everything. Its really good
Suggestions: Improve on the graphics just a bit. The Tom Clancy games are great, we want more!

Overall: THis being the sequel to the original GR...I really don't know what could have gone wrong, and so far as I know, nothing did.

With most all the maps from the original, plus many more, and with new weapons and of course LIVE...the experience you get with this game is like no other. GR:IT is the first game that actually had my palms sweating and me holding my breath in anticpation.
Gameplay: The gameplay is amazing. I love the controls to GR, always have...Simple and easy to get ahold of. THe maps offer great cover and a wide varirty of scenarios and places.

The AI does farily well, but the real fun is online with Xbox LIVE. This is where the gameplay really excels. With multiple gametypes such as Last man, Seige, and even Co-oP, you never really get bored and always have something new to try.
Graphics: THe graphics are awesome for sucha large scale game with such massive environments. I think its a great improvment for the original and I was really glad to see that they fixed the night vision glitch.
Sound: With 5.1 you are left breathless...nothing else to it, thats the plain and simple truth. This game is amazing when it comes to audio and the developers should be congratulated. Bullets pinging, fottsteps thumping, clothes and dirt rustling...awesome.

Overall: IA is better than the first game. Overall, game play is the same, like the new guns. Love this game!
Gameplay: Same as before, does take a bit to get use to, but overall, works well. Just get a bit touchy and zoom out when I get surprised, DAMN! Loose a shot.
Graphics: Better than the first one. Harder to locate from a distance, better blending into the environment. Love the new scenes and more areas to hide and shot. With Xbox Live, gives more places to stake out and shoot. Playing on 55in TV is awesome, but if you could upgrade to 480p it would help.
Sound: Sounds great on surround sound, LOUD! Cant really go wrong on this, no real complaints on this area.
Suggestions: Upgrade the visuals, playing on big scrrens do lose some detail. MORE levels, dont like paying for only eight levels, but love the game and playing on Live makes up for it. Dont take advantage too much, people will rebel and not buy. Add more to the enemy attacks, ie: jeeps. Love when the scene looks clear then a jeep roles up. Making more places to hide is great, keep it up. Make it longer and maybe add some exotic, prototype weapons.

Want some more suggestions read the xbox forums. This is a much anticipated release, answers some of our needs, but nothing really new except maps and weapons, and fixes that should have been in the original.

Do I like the game... I love it! I excited to have the new maps and weapons. I love it and I'm disappointed at the same time. It didn't quite live up to what I thought it should. Bring on Ghost Recon Desert Seige, Rainbow Six 3, Ghost Recon 2, Splinter Cell2, and Island Thunder Content.

Gameplay: Same great online experience. Not a lot of changes in experience. Less network LIVE difficulties in finding a game. Some annoying bugs have been squashed and some optimizations.

Single player missions... the AI is more aggressive, maybe a bit smarter. They will come hunting for you if alerted.

Maps are a different beast but a very nice change. I'm looking forward to the DL maps, since this iteration in Island Thunder shipped with fewer maps.

Graphics: Graphics better. Not noticibally. Already the only weak link in the original (and network Live Lobby).
colors are brighter, lighting changes I guess due to passing overby clouds. (brightness changes up and down randomly)
Weather effects are marginally better. The Cuban flavor of some maps makes it different but nice.
Sound: Same as the other Ghost Recon. Grade A. Ubi decided to add some sound effects in interface/menu/lobby screens too. Very good overall.

In game walkie-talkie feature is a nice addition, when you are in the game your teammates name shows up in the lower right when they talk.
Suggestions: What happened to rumoured Capture the flag and other gameplay modes?

Wouldn't it have been nice for them to enable the host to be able to move the siege point around, to mix up the game. Always playing with same location of siege point is boring after a while.

How about name slot flash in lobby when a player is speaking. In game walkie-talkie feature is a nice addition.

why unlock all the weapons in Multiplayer in LIVE? There is nothing to truly work for now in the dossier. Give us something to work for. Geez.

Give us a new map every 3-4 weeks to download, and maybe this time next year make available all of the original Ghost Recon maps, once the original Ghost Recon has gone platinum.

Want some more suggestions read the xbox forums. This is a much anticipated release, answers some of our needs, but nothing really new except maps and weapons, and fixes that should have been in the original. I love it yet I'm disappointed.
