Description

Need for Speed Underground allows gamers to build a completely unique exotic ride by earning cash to pay for custom body kits and a host of car mods by winning events. But just creating the ultimate custom street racing machine will not get a racer to the top; it takes a certain amount of attitude and razor sharp driving skills to compete in the tough world of urban racing.

Overall: i was never a fan of racing games until i picked this game up at the platinum hits price and gave it a chance. i cant say much for the storyline but the gameplay more than made up for it.

apparently your trying to make a name for your self and some cool girl decides to take you under her wing. As you race your reputation goes up and you get to unlock new cars, parts, and vinyls that make your car visually more appealling.
Gameplay: the gameplay consist of racing and customization. i probably spent more time customizing than actually racing. which is a good thing otherwise i would not have had any incentive to finish the game.

the racing in this game is top notch. the maps are representative of the nightlife street racing. they have plenty of cool secret short cuts (which arent very secret because you can follow the cpu and they will usually take the fastest possible paths). of course those short cuts usually are a bit more dangerous and could easily make you crash if you dont take the right line. The AI of the other racers is such that they ease up when they are winning and kick it up a notch when they are losing so that you have a pretty consist race which you will most likely lose if you mess up at the end. as you progress through the game you are given chances to unlock unique parts and new vinyls, special color paints, rims, cars, etc...

there are several types of races so that it doesnt feel to repetitive: drag racing, drifting, circuit, and sprints. of these drifting is probably the hardest because it requires alot of skillful driving.

the ability to control the layering of the vinyls (up to four layers)allows you to create some hip unique cars. im still proud of some of the cars i created in there.
Graphics: not stunning but not ugly either. the slow motion cinematic scenes are pretty cool when you catch alot of air. and the ability to customize your car are basically what make this game appealing. lots of detail in the city streets and every other block doesnt look the same either.
Sound: the soundtrack they give you is decent but i would have loved to play my own custom soundtrack. they give you a mixture of rap and rock. had people like petey pablo, lil john and the eastside boys, etc... catchy at times but got old kinda quick for me...so boo to no custom soundtrack and i gave it a 3.5
Suggestions: custom soundtracks and the ability to race for pink slips and show up your unique rides to other people.

Overall: So many cars and tracks. Hundreds of customizable parts from engine parts to the color of your car are upgradeable.
Gameplay: The game play types in this one are new to any racer game, drift and drag modes are very well done and a lot of fun to play. There is also a circuit mode which is almost every racer.
Graphics: Great sense of speed, the graphics really made this happen. The cars look amazing, the first game that I ever noticed the break pads.
Sound: Wow, the sound track in this game is incredible, has a lot of big name artist and songs. The sounds of the engines and tire sounds are pretty realistic.

Overall: Need for speed underground takes you and your car to the hot underground world of street racing. With full customization and 100's of tracks, NFSU will keep you entertained for hours!
Gameplay: NFSU = Arcade racer. It is a game that anyone can pick up and play, while it still maintains difficult tracks and opponents.
Graphics: The graphics in NFSU are very nice. The car models and customization is like nothing before. The weather and lighting effects are also definatley awesome qualities.
Sound: The music.. eh...
The sound effects top notch though. I was very pleased with the car sounds and I feel EA did a sweet job!
Suggestions: Include some LIVE capabilities!

Overall: Probably the greatest "realistic" street racing game on the market today. Overall a fun game to play.
Gameplay: Gameplay is easy to figure out, being one of those racing drivers who prefers to use the Automatic mode in video games this is the first game that I will use Manual transmission on.
Graphics: Visually this game is stunning realistic vehicles and scenery. All adds to the games thrill ride.
Sound: Sounds are realistic with a compliment of EA Trax to add to the feel of the underground street racing theme.
Suggestions: Realistic damage. The only thing keeping me from taking these games seriously is that damage is never realistic. When you are barreling down the road at 200 miles and hour and slam head on into a pick-up truck you don't keep on driving. It's game over for you. That should be part of the challenge having to dodge the other vehicles or risk getting knock out of the race. If you vehicle is too seriously damaged then you should be forces to either pay for repairs or buy a new car.

Overall: Extremely fast and furious street racing game. Hundreds of visual and preformance options to choose from. Incredible sense of speed and amazing NOS effects. If you like the fast and furious movies, you'll explode with positive joy towards this game!
Gameplay: !!! Blast your car around the city at 200 miles an hour while dodging those !@#$%^&* vans!!!! Skid round corners and jump over drawbridges. Get sideways over oiled up drift curcuits and burn rubber on drag tracks. 10/5
Graphics: Good sense of speed but there could be some improvements here. Sharper building textures and better looking backgrounds.
Sound: Awesome in game sound with the gear shifting and skids but I took a mark off for the music. Never before have I heard a soundtrack worse than this!
Suggestions: Live, 4 player local Xbox and custom soundtracks.

Overall: Great Game over all the feeling of going 200mph is great all the cars blurring by.This game is a must buy!
Gameplay: The gameplay is great. You can fully customise your car there are tons of performace upgrades and lots of rict. to choose from!
Graphics: The Visuals are great when you his the NOS all the cars start to blur and when you get going really fast it looks awesome. I still think the PGR2 graphics look better though so that is something to improve on.
Sound: Sound is great I love the sound when it shifts gears it sounds very realistic! The only thing is that I want to be able to listin to my music that I have on my xbox hard drive.

Overall: need for speed undergroud, is an adictively fast arcade style racer... the cars handle well, and there are loads of visual, and performance tune-ups. a very good racer, but more could have been done with the xbox version.
Gameplay: gameplay, is very good... this game would probably be the easiest to pick up and play... but is still hard to master. cars have a lovely arcade feel to them, and handle brilliantly, but there are not many cars... and half of the tracks are the same, only in reverse... but all tracks have plenty of short-cuts, and there are plenty of modes to keep you occupied.
Graphics: the visuals in this game give you a brilliant sense of intense speed, lights shooting by, blurred cars passing you at 160 mph... lovely! overall the visuals are very good... not quite a PGR beater, but still good.... but i dont feel that it uses the xbox's graphical power to it's extent... but taking nothing away from the game... nice effects, glittering roads, flashing lights... and nice shiney cars!!
Sound: sound is quite good in this game, the best bit is when you change gear... you hear a... well, a very convincing gear change sound. but you cant copy your own songs into the game, and sometimes the music can get a bit reppetative, but overall.... sounds good to me!
Suggestions: it would be nice if there were more tracks, cars... and better graphics on the xbox version.... i know that this is a multi-format game so the size of the game may have to compensate for the ps2's and gamecubes power... but how about somthing special for xbox owners?

Overall: overall i would give this game a 10-10 rating as it has the visual, the sound, the gameplay but most of all it is fast and furious!!!
Gameplay: The gameplay is graet but the levels could do with a bit more accessabilty, most of the levels are the previous ones but reversed.
Graphics: The graphics are brilliant, there are several different types glisening paint. the detail on the engines, break calibers and the city lights are cool, not to mention when you use nitrous!!!
Sound: good sounds but not very recognisable sounds (music). if the sound was as good as the graphics i would give it 5-5
Suggestions: use more tracks and destinations!!!

Overall: Ever seen the fast and the furious? This is it. Take your run of the mill car and compete in street races. Win the race get the cash, tune it up and make it look good. As your car becomes your individual creation you are rewarded with global recognition as your car dons the covers of tuning mags all over the world. an easy game to pick up and one that takes a little more time to truly master. A serious game to consider for your next purchase and a must for any car modding fanatic.

When all its attributes are put together this game gets a big old 5
Gameplay: It starts off nice and simple a few cars here a few cars there and some nice and easy corners, and you probably wouldnt think it was any different from most of your normal driving games. Big mistake as you progeress more traffic appears and your driving skills are tested, weaving in and out of cars for No.1 spot because second is the first loser.

There are five racing styles, drag, drift, sprint, knockout and your normal lap race. All the cars handle differently and have different stats, some are better at drag some are better at drift but thats ok because you can readily trade your car.

The game can get a bit frustrating, when you hit walls head on you stick to them like glue essentially you would probably spin off, sometimes it feels as though cars pop out of nowhere just to hit you and this is extremely irritating especially when your on the last corner to the finish line. This is only a minor irratance, as you learn the map you'll know when to turn and the best racing line to take.

Graphics: Really good visually. the cars look good the maps look good it all looks good. Cars look individual as you choose from an aray of different bumbers and side skirts, alloys, lights spoilers and bonnets. Your car is almost fully customisable allowing for the colouring of just about every bit of your car from the body work to the brake pads. only problem here is you dont have control over the colour of your vinyls.

Drag tracks look slippery and skids leave marks. As you get faster images become blurred and you really feel as though you are driving at 160mph. Minimal car damage occurs, only the loss of the wing mirrors and they take some hacking! Visually i dont think you can get anything like this about time a game was made for moding cars like they are on the streets.
Sound: A wide range of tunes which can be customised to play only the ones you like, although in my case this ment i had a short selection of some nice R'n'B tunes which would get a bit repetative.

The cars sound great. The engine modifications on each car give it that extra grunt, you can really hear the power as you rev up your motor. Theres nothing better sounding in a car game then a nice shift and once you add in your turbo you will understand what i mean. The sounds are very detailed and impressive.
Suggestions: Needs to be online enabled, if PS2 can do it why not XBOX?

Just a little hint once your near the end choose the car you like and how it looks cos your stuck with it when you've finished.

Overall: Overall this is the best racing game ive ever played. Its much more exciting than PGR series and is the best game yet which enables you to mod your own car.An unreal game in my opinion.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great. You really need to work to earn everything in the game and the underground mode makes you master more skills than simply driving.
Graphics: Visually spectacular. Nice smooth graphics with a look ive never seen before. Great effects to add to the feel of the real speed being represented.
Sound: This by far has the best and most exciting sounds in a racing game that ive played. It really adds to the gameplay and represents the import racing world well.

Overall: Need For Speed: Underground has great graphics, smooth controls but unlike Hot Pursuit 2 it lack in well.. just plain fun. HP2 was fun & a great multiplayer game, & UG is also a good game but doesnt have as much replayability as HP2 did. UG is still a fun game but could have had more featues.
Gameplay: the gameplay is similair to Hot Pursit 2 but with add ons like Nas etc. the Controls are very smooth & dont take very much getting use to.
Graphics: the graphics are awesome, the cars look sweet both look & graphic wise. The other cars in the game (like on the road) dont have as much detail but were not expecting the to.
Sound: the car sounds are better than Hot Pursit 2.
Suggestions: make it more FUN like HP2. other than just FUN i guess i have no complaints.

Overall: Without a doubt the best game EA has
put out the whole year. EA sports games
are good but are blown away by ESPN
sports games. This game is almost like
watching Fast and Furious and
controling the cars. Excellent graphics
Excelent game. I give it an A+. If i had the
money its a must buy.
Gameplay: The gameplay is near flawless. There
usually isnt much wrong with the
gameplay in most racing games but with
my experience so far it perfect.
Graphics: The graphics of the cars rock but the
buildings and scenery could use a little
work but over all it fantastic. It looks like
any street racing car in a movie. EA
stood for Extra Awsome when making
this game. But if ESPN came out with a
racing game im sure it would be the best
just like all of ESPN's games.
Sound: The cars sound incredible. If you listen to
Fast and Furious with your eyes shut
then cut on this game you couldnt tell a
difference. The music on this game is
also the best of any game ive ever
played.
Suggestions: Keep up the good work! The street racing
theme was an excellent way to go. This
game is near perfect. But something has
to give on your sports game because
ESPN in blowing your games off the
shelves!

Overall: Well i just rented this game yesterday at blockbuster with my game freedom pass, and i love this game, graphics, sound and everything. I think i might just have to trade midnight club 2 in and get this excellent game:).
Gameplay: Well I just love the gameplay especially the drag racing(which i cant get beat at). I like how you can customize your cars because midnigt club 2 you couldnt do that and thats one reason why im going to trade that game in for this one. Another reason is because in midnight club 2 all u did was race for other peoples car the whole time, which was real boring.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are fantastic, I like how the city looks and how it reflects off the paint of the cars. Whoever made the graphics for this game is very, very talented.
Sound: I like the music in this game, because mose of the music goes with the point of the game, for example: T.I. 24s. If u have the game you'll know what im talking about. And I want to thank yall for putting T.I's song on their:)
Suggestions: Yall need to make this game Xbox Live Compatible(but be carefull when you all make it for live because you already know i will beat everybody in the world), and you all need to make where if your car gets damaged any time during the races, you have to get your car repaired in your your garage.

Overall: Great game. Just as good as Project Gothem 2. I loved the graphics, sound of the engine roaring, and the gameplay ruled.
Gameplay: Something not to be rivaled with( with one exeption) I love that street racer air alll around you, cant resist it.
Graphics: Awsome. Allthough it dosent have real graphics(Halo) ITs awsome your can actully see blurs when you go fast enough! something that would happen in real life(Sweeeet...)
Sound: Not really aything to listen to, with all the engines roaring(best part in sound) Cars Zooming by or getting left behind, crashes ect. its all good.
Suggestions: Excellent, now you just need to team with Project Gothem Team, and the racing game that formulated would be a force to reckon with!

Overall: BEST RACING GAME EVER! This game is the bomb. When I was at EB I was gonna get PGR2, but the clerk said this was way better so I listened to him and it paid off. I have Xbox Live and I know that PGR2 is online and this isnt but this game is so awesome.
Gameplay: This is basically a 2 Fast 2 Furious video game with a different name slapped on it. Tons of imported cars that you can unlock after you win certain races and tons of upgrades to unlock after you win certain races. The amount of customization is crazy. The racing is awesome and its not to easy and not to hard.
Graphics: Great graphics. The cars look really cool. The whole city looks cool, too. Really good graphicS!!!!
Sound: The game soounds great, too. EA Games no has the THX licsense for games so that makes it sound even better. The engines sound great too.

Gameplay: very good gameplay, except the only thing i did not like about it was the ai, it could catch up 2 u even if u left the dude like 2 miles away.
Graphics: amazing graphics, i mean i dont even know wat to say about them, perfect lighting, reflections, images of cars, it makes u feel like ur in fast and the furious!!!
Sound: if its one thing about this game that i like its definately the sound, the producers did a good job of puting in the best sound track of any game in nfs underground.

Overall: I highly recommend this to racing fans that are into the customization element. Just be warned of the tracks monotony -- the diversity comes in the mind-bending amount of aesthetically different vehicles you can create. Multiplayer, especially Drag mode, is also really entertaining. Unfortunately, no online for Xbox -- a real downer.

Gameplay: Fantastically executed gameplay; addictive and a style all its own. Customization is the main reason to own it. Only some of the track design limitations and lack of tuning options drag it down.
Graphics: I am sorely missing 60 frames per second, but this is an absolutely gorgeous racer. Fantastic lighting, detailed car models, and sweet effects. Could have used more variety, however.
Sound: Awesome soundtrack with style and variety. Exclusive artists. Accurate sound effects and surround sound.
Suggestions: Great job. Now just build on this game and make it even bigger. Also put online play in.

Overall: This is the game that makes Need for Speed series the game of all time. Wow is the first and for most thing that comes to mind. Total addictive. The fact that your car sucks when you start out is the best... Earn your way to the top !
Gameplay: Gameplay is by far the best out of all the other NFS Games.... Except mabe Porche Unleashed the handling in that game was amazing. The handling in this game is about as real as it's going to get. Since i've driven a few of the cars in the game I can say that they CAN take the corners like they do in the game... But please don't try this leave it for the Pro's to do !
Graphics: WOOOOOOOOOOOOW Graphics are well WOW. Love the way the the lights blury when you get moving cause well they do that in real life too. Love the buildings they have the detail then when you go faster it just blurs it's Great !
Sound: This is an area were some people might not agree on... The sound of the cars are not perfect but hey every game has a fault this is this games. The tunes are motivating make you just want to pull the trigger through the controller !

Overall: The game is fun and addictive, but far too repetative to be trully great. Sadly what was a good concept was developed by EA, which spells BAD OPTIMISATION, or lack there of, with most Xbox gamers.
Gameplay: The gameplay is nice to begin with. It features several modes, including a 'Drag' mode where sheer speed is the key, for which the players skillful use of the optimisation features are essential. Yes, the cars can be customised, to an impressive extent too. Spoilers, skirts and vynalls take care of the 'look', while you can also fit certain parts to enhance engine capabilities. Sadly however this is all ruined by the nature of the tracks. At first its nice to look at glowing lights of the city, but thats all there is to look at. There is no variation for the environments at all, which is extemely dissapointing to say the least.
Graphics: In places the game looks nice. The cars are rendered well, but you won't be seeing any interiors here. Another nice touch is the incredible sense of speed, created with streaming lights and blurring visuals. But sadly, once again, while the game looks better on xbox than any other console, it still suffers from the usual lack of quality from a PS2 port. The optimisation could have been better. The environmental graphics are also far too repetative, there are ONLY cities ONLY at night. This is the games downfall.
Sound: The sound of the roaring engines is well captured and the other soundeffects are good on the whole. The music though is just annoying. The raps are more of a distraction than anything, and don't give room for appeal to non-rap fans.
Suggestions: This is a typical EA flop. Over rated and over hyped. A terrible lack of variety and dull environments spell DEATH. Next time go back to the route of Need for Speed2, but add the customising features, and make it exclusive to Xbox, and put it on the market for £1, and box it with a free sledge hammer to smash it with if its still not good enough...

Overall: This game is great, for speed fans and the new players. The options in the game a numerous and full of fun. LIVE would be nice, but only a minor fallback, split-screen alone olmost settles it. You can customise pretty much anything on your car, from window tint to brake pads. This is a must have for those who enjoy racing games and those who just like to have fun with a friend.
Gameplay: The gameplay is superb. The story line is a little weak, and of course no LIVE support. But other then that it's great. Has control set-up to suit anyone's needs and the track layouts are great. Making turns to early into one of those dang red arrows can be a pain though.
Graphics: The graphics are stunning. You never see a missed detail, whether it's decals on your car to the neon under it. The bounce of the camera adds alot to the drag mode and the blur with NOS is great. It has a variety of options for upgrading and "tricking out" your ride.
Sound: The soundtrack provides a very good setting for the game. You don't miss details in this game, when you need a little turbo, you get your worth, and you can here others coming up behind you. Crank up your volume and be surrounded by great sounds of your car and music.
Suggestions: The multiplayer option are the only flaw. LIVE would have been really great, as well as maybe a 4 player split screen for circuit racing. Other then that, it's a precious gift from the heavens, or ah...EA i mean.

Overall: Probably the best racing game ever! Definitely in the top 3! The sence of speed in amazing. Upgrades, graphics, presentation are all top par.
Gameplay: The sence of speed in this game is unmatched, period!! The controls are superb and the realistic upgrades are insane! A complete game!! The way the setup of the races are is a wonderful way to keep you into the game.
Graphics: Visually this game is beautiful. The way that everything blurs as you go faster is great. It gives you a real feel for speed!! The interactions with the environments are a nice touch(signs, construction signs, etc. all fly around). The personalization of the cars looks sweet duriong the races. Pure eye candy. The only reason I am not giving a 5 is because there is no car damage(burnout 2 type damage would of been nice, but maybe not as crazy)but this does little to detract from the experience. A MUST BUY!!
Sound: This could be the first game that the sound is the best aspect of this game, and that is hard to do considering how ever aspect of this game is so wonderful. The wind sounds as you speed up, the shifting of the gears, the music, the entire package is all top notch!!
Suggestions: Please start on the next one. Include more exotic cars and some damage effects would be nice. Great job!!!

Overall: Overall this is a pretty good game. I found a few bad things in it but these are small problems.
Gameplay: The gameplay was very good. I thought the cars handled very well, almost realistic. I didn't like how the game was and underground racing game, but there were big huge red arrows telling you where to go. I also thought it need to have races that weren't linear, it needed more of a midnight club 2 type of tracks.
Graphics: The visuals in this game are very good. I only had 1 problem with them...after playing the game for about 5 hours a day, not consecutive hours, I felt my vision got worse. I think this had to do with the visuals of drag racing, how the screen shakes and blurs at 175 mph. and also using the nitrous in any of the races.
Sound: The sound effects in the game were good. I thought this game would have been even better if it had a custom soundtrack option so i didn't have to listen to their music.
Suggestions: i want to put graphics on my new hoods. I think you should have 2 or 3 city style tracks with checkpoints and no big red arrowns on walls.

Overall: this game is the manifestation of awesome. . . its so great that it is very difficult to describe. . . Think Midnight club 2 except more realistic, better sounds, way better graphics, with about the same fun factor (for those of you who are paying attention I gave MC2 a low score but I tried it again and loved it) 5 points across the board i say!
Gameplay: fun fun fun, like 6 game modes including: drag race, point challenge (Point A to point B), drift, circuit, and something else that I can't remember at this time. the game is worth the price simply for all the customization you can do. . . 1000s of different body kit combos, decals, and vinyls. . . only thing it could use is live play!
Graphics: erm i don't know how to describe. . . so amazing looking that you may have a seizure just driving in it. . . real time reflections in the road, on the car, on other cars, light trails. . . just amazing!
Sound: Although I don't like rap at all, I can respect the song listing because rap works with the game. I found myself enjoying the music as well as the realistic engine sounds. . . I actually took the time to put my subwoofer under my couch facing up. . . if you have a subwoofer just crank it, you'll enjoy. . .
Suggestions: LIVE PLAY. . . More cars. . . give us the ability to give custom paintjobs/make our own vinyls
