Overall: If you're a fan of the Pirate genre, this game is a must have. Contains an innovative use of the controller's shock feature. This game has been out awhile now, so you can find it cheap! ~$20
Gameplay: In a way, this is really two games in one. First, you get to run around on foot and battle bad guys, collect treasure, etc. Second, you get to captain your ship around in sea-based combat. Both are well done, and its great being able to switch b ack and forth to keep things interesting.

No one else has mentioned it in their review, but cheat codes are available to make Kat run around in skimpier outfits.

Graphics: It's true that if this was originally not an Xbox title and not a port, they probably could have made better graphics on the Xbox. Still, the graphics while out are sea are beautiful.

Sound: The sound effects and music do a good job enhancing the game play. However, there's nothing particularly memorable/over the top about them either.

Suggestions: Make an Xbox sequal!

Overall: It's like a really basic RPG in a thord person perspective. Good fun running around doing your pirate thing.
Gameplay: My first RPG, that is a good discription. It's great fun although the camera can drift off and do it's own thing sometimes, but it is easily fixed back into place. This game could be played by children as well as adults, it's nice and simple and above all fun. The story does grab you and the more you play the better it gets. I wasn't sure at the start but now I am trying to complete it and I don't play anything else!!!!
Graphics: The visuals are fine, just fine. There is no glitching or flickering and objects in front of you go semi transparent to make it easier. There are nice side animations like birds, fish, squid, monkeys and butterflies etc.
Sound: The sound is fine and never offensive. It doesn't stay in your head like Jet Set Radio Future does, and it doesn't annoy. It is perfectly balanced and suits the game. The voices are nice to.
Suggestions: Thanko for a great fun game and I hope you make a sequel, preferably with more RPG elements. It would have been good to board other ships and loot them.

Overall: horrible, on word. They put this game called Pirates: Legend of the black Kat in the spot where Pirates of the Carribean was supposed to be. I played it anyway and figured it might be ok, but turned out to be major crap
Gameplay: The best gameplay in the game is the jump button, sad. I didnt like any aspect of the gameplay and thought the game was plain dull.
Graphics: Bad graphics, nuff said. Choppy in every scene, and to me they can be improved A lot. This makes the game play horrible.
Sound: Didnt like the music at all. There isnt much music anyway and the sounds of the treasures you found annoyed the hell out of me.

Overall: This game gave a very real Azurik feel to it. For an adventure/quest type of game, the story didn't keep me interested enough to put too much time into it.
Gameplay: The gameplay was alright. I like the attacking moves available, and the ship battles were okay, if kind of shallow.
Graphics: 3rd person view. Nothing all that spectacular. The cinematics were pretty cool, but you kind of expect that.
Sound: Once again, nothing spectacular. They were sufficient, but I didn't really see a need for my stereo system to be involved.
Suggestions: Perhaps put more strategy into the ship battles. Make it a multiple character game to add depth to it.

Overall: A good solid game for fans of pirate movies. A mainstream backgroundstory leads through the singleplayermissions, the best thing is definitly the seabattle
Gameplay: The singleplayer missions soon get a little bit boring, the dogfights on sea are great. The game is easy to handle, there is the typical disadvantage of a 3rd person game, the camera.
Graphics: Superb athmospheric water, with reflections. You can even see the ground near coasts and fish swimming around. The missions on land are not so beautyful.
Sound: SoundFX is ok but nothing fancy. The Soundtrack is a bit boring and sounds cheap. The voice of Kat is nice
Suggestions: Splitscreen in Multiplayermode, 3rd person camera is not very sophisticated

Overall: Not a bad little game. However very much the "go here,do this" formula. The ship battles can be interesting once you get the hang of them. However the overall game play is repedative. It's pretty much go to island, fight ships/monsters, get treasure, get map, go to next island, rinse& repeat. As stated, not bad but probably a "B" grade title.
Gameplay: The game consists of Kat eithier walking around an island doing the standard hack and slash to monsters, following the path to the treasure chests, then getting the map to the next island. Then there is the sea battles that while can be interesting, once you have worked them out can be easy.(although two or three ships at once in the early stages can be challenging)
While traveling the seas and the islands, there are some extra trinkets along the way to collect. You can roam a bit, but in most cases it's the same gameplay. The difference being each island has a bit of a different setting.
There are other things to do such as buying equipment, upgrading your ship, finding quests or smugglers to trade with (but these activities are fairly basic)
In other words if you are looking for any depth to this game you may be disappointed.
Graphics: The graphics are above average to fair in most instances with the water being quite well done. The attractive factor can change depending on the camera angle and zoom level. While not everyone will love them, overall they are fairly appealing, certainly not at Halo standard but not bad eithier.
Sound: The sound is adequate. The sounds of the sea or a pirate shanty in the right place is a nice touch, however again probably not the best sound or music. It could be a personal thing but the voice of Black Kat does not quite fit.
Suggestions: A bit more depth would not have gone astray. A bit more strategy and possibly the ability to utilise your crewman more. ie. help out in some battles.

Overall: Well, I got it used so it was cheap, but really, I wouldn't recommend buying this game, the game is fun at first with the whole pirate thing, but the novelty wears off fast, the battles are repetitive, the missions are silly, but I'm being hard on it, I did have fun with it.
Gameplay: Well, basically you take the role of this pirate, and go to different islands, kill lots of pirates, and sink lots of ships. Not much else to it, there are little side quests, but they aren't too involved. The on foot combat system is pretty lame, there are very few moves, and that doesn't change as far as I've seen, the bosses are cool, but easy.
Graphics: The game really looks good, the ground textures aren't anything to get excited about, but the water effects are kind of cool, and the characters are well done. Explosions and gunshots are cool too, overall I think they did a good job on graphics.
Sound: The sound does get awful repetitive, but it's not too bad, it sounds alright, but nothing to get too excited about, I'm disappointed that they left out the option to use your own music.
Suggestions: Make the melee fighting more involved, as it is, it's just hack and slash at the most basic level.

Overall: If you like pirate games you'll love this game. It reminded me a little of Escape from Monkey Island, but is more serious and is a much better game. The multiplayer mode is especially good. I wasn't impressed at first, but the longer I played, the harder it was to stop. After playing this game for so long I have to say it is the best pirate game I've ever played.
Gameplay: The gameplay if extremely fun and there is more of it than I thought there would be. I rented it figuring to beat it over the weekend. Didn't happen. I enjoyed it so much i had to buy it. There is PLENTY of gameplay and I found it difficult to tear myself away from it. The controls are excellent, but the ship controls are more difficult and take a little getting used to. The free roaming aspect is amazing. You can pretty much do whatever you want. The quests are linear, but all the other aspects of Black Kat are free roaming.I like the mix because you don't get a bunch of different quests to do all at once. Overall Black Kat's gameplay appeal is almost perfect. I definately believe that it is the most underated game made for the xbox.
Graphics: The visuals are pretty good, but not as good as they could be. The main reason for this is that the game is a port. It is almost an insult to the xbox to just port a game over like this. It should have been reworked to take full advantage of the capabilities of the xbox. Although it is disappointing visually, it's still alright.
Sound: The sound is fairly good. I have my xbox hooked up to a Dolby 5.1 receiver and I am pretty picky about sound. I found the sound a little lacking at first, but the more I played the more I liked it. The sound of the clashing swords and the other battle sounds are well done. The music was annoying at first, but it also picked up. I think the music fits the game pretty well. All in all the sound could have been a little better, but not much.
Suggestions: Make a game specifically for the xbox so that xbox gamers aren't constrained by the limits of other systems. Porting games over with no improvements is a mark of laziness.

Overall: First off let me say I am by no means an RPG person. BUT, I had to try this game. Something appealed to me in its description. So I decided to rent it. I am currently playing it and I must tell you it is fun! The games looks good, sounds good, and plays good. I can?t put it down because I want to see what keeps happening. I love the free roam mode! All games must have free roam! You can follow the path or just wander off and experience your surrounding! This is one of the few RPG?s I really like. I?d recommend everyone rent it and see if it is good. I am looking forward to Morrowind as well. If it is better than this I will be really happy!
Gameplay: I love the free roam! This is awesome; you can wander all over and look at whatever you want with no time limits. The game plays are crisp with good narration and video mixed in! The story is intriguing too. This is a game with nothing spectacular visually but there is something about the game that looks great with out being flashy. The game flows and I like that the story builds as you progress.
Graphics: The graphics are nothing spectacular but they do have that good look to them. You can see foot prints and the game runs smooth. And to me that is what matters. It just looks good! The land is detailed and the water is as well. All of the characters are detailed just enough and the videos do look better than I expected. Excellent animation!!!
Sound: The sound volume is low, just turn it up. The quality is excellent. The videos and game play has nice music and the sounds you hear in game play are just enough to have you immersed into the game!
Suggestions: Make a sequel! Take advantage of the Xbox?s power!

Overall: Looking back at my original eXcitement review for this game (the Hype score), I'm happy to announce that I'll have to eat my words. This is easily the most enjoyable pirate adventure since Monkey Island 3 (sorry to all who liked MI4... the whole monkey combat thing spoiled that game for me.) More intuitive than the awful Redjack, but not as refined as Sid Meyer's Pirates, this might be the most underrated and overlooked title released on the Xbox to date. Typically, I don't enjoy pirate adventures if they're not historically accurate (unless they're over-the-top funny like the Monkey Island series.) This is why I was hesitant to buy this game... it didn't look funny and I was thinking to myself, "pirates didn't use magic, nor did they battle the undead and giant crabs!" As it turns out, the magic used is the Caribbean voodoo that was a big factor in pirate mythology... something that has never been employed this thoroughly in a pirate game. In fact, the use of voodoo only helped to enhance both the atmosphere and the gameplay. To top it all off, there's a great storyline that leaves infinite possibilities for a sequel (and I hope there is one.) While there are some technical issues that arise from this being a port, the game will have you so captivated they won't bother you too much. Take my advice and the advice of other reviewers... don't bother renting this title. Just buy it. It's as close to flawless as games get.
Gameplay: This is where Black Kat really shines. I was expecting about 20 hours of gameplay, but it soon became obvious that there would be much more. There are so many islands and so many quests that if you try to do it all (like I did) you'll clock in nearly 50 hours trying to reach the finish. However, this game is so much fun that you won't mind spending that much time doing everything. The controls on land are very simple. The controls during sailing and ship combat take a tiny bit of time getting used to, but once you've mastered them you'll find that they're quite ingenious. This is not only one of the longest games in the Xbox lineup, but the most open-ended. You can leave islands and go to other islands at will. If you want to spend hours sailing around doing ship combat, you can. So while the quests themselves are linear in nature (you don't get one until you complete another), you can play this game at your own pace. And since blocks of islands open up all at once, the way in which you complete the quests is up to you. If one island looks too imposing at first, try one of the other 9 that just opened up! But be prepared... this game can be tough in some spots, even on easy mode. The good news is, you'll hardly ever find yourself screaming "that's not fair," because the camera and the controls are so good you'll be blocking and slashing with ease. Gunners' shots can be reflected into other people, even the gunners themselves; and if there's a bad guy between you and them, they'll kill the bad guy. Everything that can hurt you can hurt your enemy, except for some obvious exceptions (banshees instill the fear of the undead, so they don't hurt the other undead.) There are even times when people with swords try slashing you and accidently kill their nearby comrades. That's what I call fair!
Graphics: Visuals are the game's only real weak point, but only because this is a port. The sea meets the land in a low-poly line that's far below what the Xbox is capable of. Land textures and trees are nice, but also a bit off. Lighting is decent, but sub-par for the Xbox's capabilities. Some of the movie sequences (including the very first one) are extremely blurry due to some bad compression. However, the graphics are an improvement over the PS2 version and with a game that's this huge, it'd be nearly impossible to update everything perfectly without a good 7 or 8 months of work. At sea, everything is perfect. The ship models and textures are incredible. The water is unspeakably beautiful, and the islands fit right in. You can see ocean life splashing up to the surface of the water, and sunken ships underneath. Don't even get me started on the sky... it's rendered very well, with real clouds casting real shadows on the land and sea. When an enemy ship explodes, you can see their crew get blown into the sky. Zoom in on your own ship and turn in all different directions... you can see the guy steering the ship turn the wheel in the right direction as other men are swabbing the decks. Zoom in close to Kat when she's on land and she winks at you then poses. So while there are some downfalls in the quality of the graphics, there are so many neat things thrown in that you won't dwell on the shortcomings.
Sound: The sound department did a wonderful job on this game. Other people have mentioned that the music stops and starts, which is true. However, when the music isn't playing, you can hear the sounds of the sea with the playful ocean life splashing around. When you're inland, you hear the insects and wildlife of the Caribbean jungles. When the music starts, it starts for a reason... and it's usually not good. In other words, they don't make the music a background feature, but a psychological feature. It's amazing how well this works, and I wish more games employed this tactic. The environmental sounds are also spectacular, like the sound of clanging swords, cannon blasts, and the wood creaking as you turn your brand new galleon around to slaughter your foe. For the movie sequences, the characters are voiced well. They sound like real people engaged in real dialogue... not real people reading scripts. The only reason I don't give the audio a perfect score has to do with the way the enemies are voiced. They sit around, silently biding their time until you dispatch them into the next life. When they notice you, they make a remark like "die!" or "aha!" or "ooga booga." And it never changes. Men with keg grenades all say the same thing, voodoo priests all say the same thing, ship captains all say the same thing... there's no variety. However, that's the ONLY bad point.
Suggestions: Please make a sequel!!! Perhaps for the next one, you can have the option of sending a boarding party to loot your enemy's ships instead of just blowing them up... it can culminate in a duel with the enemy captain for the contents of his ship's hold. Or you can make towns that you can dock in, loot, take over or just walk around buying things. I'd check out Sid Meyer's Pirates for ideas on what to do. Make the hordes of enemies more vocal... or at least put some variation in what they say when they spot you. And please make the graphics more up to what the Xbox can do. This should be easy because the next game can be developed with Xbox in mind, which was probably not the case with this one. This could be an incredible franchise... I'm already psyched about the possibility of a sequel!

Overall: Great!! Loved the game. Visually The Legend Of Black Kat is good, overall storyline is very interesting, and very addictive. When I got going I couldn't seem to put my controller down.
Gameplay: Smooth easy to control, the ships can be understandably hard to control somtimes. overall very fun.
Graphics: Excellant. What really impressed me was that they made a conscious effort to match lip movement to the word. Very good attention to detail.
Sound: So-so. Theme went well with the plotline and helped to keep you interested, but lacked in some areas due to large gaps.
Suggestions: Keep up the good work.

Overall: I have been playing this game around 7 or 8 hours now and I can say that I am really enjoying it. The game has been described as Zeldaish and it has its similarities. You travel around by ship to different island chains battling other ships at sea and various enemies on land. throughout the game you pick up 5 different swords and various thrown weapons such as knives, bombs, poison darts. You also pick up varios idols, allowing you to cast spells damaging enemies within a short distance as well. Also, as you progress in the game you pick up health hearts which increase your overall health bar. It's an adventure game which, so far, has been really fun to play...
Gameplay: The gameplay is pretty basic. At sea you can battle ships using your cannons, by ramming and have the ability to purchase some other weapons such as stink bombs, fire pots, and chain shot which damage other boats sails and hull in different ways. The ship battles are pretty fun and take a bit of strategy, you have to try to avoid the other ships cannons while at the same time manoevering to get in a position to do the most damage yourself. At first you start out with a small boat with few cannons but fairly rapidly you can earn enough money to buy bigger boats which can hold more cannons and cargo. You also have to use your ship to take over forts on land, again you have to find a spot where you aren't vulnerable and can do the most damage yourself. Once a fort is taken over, you can use it to buy supplies and repair your ship. While on land you use use your sword to battle enemies for the most part, but the addition of longer range weapons helps out with some of the more annoying enemies such as the Totems which chase you down pretty quickly. The land combat is pretty simple, you have the ability to use your sword, jump, jump and use your sword or use an item such as a mini keg (grenade) or a spell. The buttons are pretty well laid out, the green button uses your sword, the red button jumps, the yellow button uses your selected secondary weapon and the blue button uses your special attack which you charge up fighting enemies. The white and black buttons cycle through your inventory. The right trigger opens treasure chests and digs up buried treasure, while the Back button brings up your maps. The left thumbstick moves the character and the right thumbstick moves the camera (which is really useful in ship battles to find out where you are being attacked from). The controls are fairly straightforward and take only a few minutes to get the hang of. There are many things you can do in the game and the button layout allows you to do it without any difficulties. Overall the game has been really fun so far. Early on, the game is a bit slow, but as you progress into the game you'll face more and more enemies at once. When this happens, you'll find youself swordfighting and at the same time trying to lob mini kegs to take out an enemy with a long range weapon as well. It takes a bit of strategy and some much needed health drinks sprinkled throughout the island to make it to the end sometimes.
Graphics: The visuals in the game get mixed reviews from me. While on your boat the islands, other boats, water, skies look fantastic. Every now and then you'll see a giant turtle or squid swimming by underneath the water. Close to shore you can see the bottom of the ocean and sunken boats which are both really well done. When you fire your cannons your boat rocks from the recoil, when you destroy another boat, flaming parts of it go flying all over the place and even make splashes as they land. Everything has a sense of realism about it. When you beat a fort, I find the animations there a bit cheesy however.... While on land it's a bit of a different story. While the enemies look good, the environments feel a bit painted and not textured properly, Something is a bit lacking there. It doesn't take away from the overall fun factor though which is a good thing. I have noticed a bit of slowdown from time to time while on land. I'm not sure why this happened, nothing was going on, I was just walking up a hill. Other times when there are 8 or 9 enemies on the screen at once everything ran smoothly... The PS2 version was said to be blurry, but the Xbox version seems very clear to me, you can even see enemies far off in the distance swinging their swords in anticipation of cutting you to ribbons.....
Sound: The sound is well done, the clank of the swords during battle, explosions of ships being destroyed, the death cries of your enemies are all done well. As you approach an unknown area or engage a ship in battle the music picks up and adds to the atmosphere. Overall the music is well done, it fits an adventure game very well.
Suggestions: Hmmm, I'd spruce up the land textures for starters. Sometimes your sword feels a little slow, especially when facing a more advanced enemy, maybe it's just my timing though lol... My only other peeve is that you have to cycle through your inventory while engaged in battle, if you have many items, finding the one you want takes time and can get you killed. If there was an inventory screen you could go to which paused the game while you selected an item would have been better in my books.

Overall: Really was just looking for a RPG until Morrowind comes out. The scenario intrigued me so I went out and bought it. I played it for several hours last night and am happy that I bought it (as opposed to renting it first). The game play is smooth and the controls intuitive. The look and feel of the game is very much what I expected. More details to follow...but I would say that overall I am happy with it after my first impressions...it was fun to play which is the bottom line. I expect that it will keep me busy until Bethesda releases the first XBOX game that I have really looked forward to...
Gameplay: Learning to play the game didn't take long. Not to say that is a bad thing...but everything was pretty straight forward.
Sword play is not incredibly complex...block , slash, jump. Later in the game you can pick up some thrown weapons.
Play while on the ship is a little more difficult...but not tough to master. I must say that the movement of the ship and the ship to ship batters were pretty cool...although initially I had a hard time controlling the ship and battling at the same time.
The game is not quite as complex as I had hoped...but still is pretty appealing.
Graphics: I thought the grahpics were great...smoth and detailed. From footprints that remain in the sand to the texture of the sea floor (where you can see the remains of your previously defeated foes). The lighting and color of the game was exactly what I expected. Also, I have 3 young kids the oldest of which is 6. I had no problem playing the game while they watched. In fact my 6 year old was glued to the TV and upset when we stopped playing (although he didn't want to play because he didn't want to fight the giant crabs). Also, I played on a 65 inch HDTV and ran it through my surround sound system. The image obviously wasn't 1080i but still looked solid.
Sound: Said this above...ran it through my surround sound system. Audio was fine...good in fact. But there were not a lot of surround sound effects...in fact I don't remeber the explosions taking advantage of my sub. Anyway, the sound effects were good and the music was not annoying and very pirate-like.
Suggestions: I would have made the game a tad bit more complex but I understand that they have to have a broad appeal.
