MechAssault
Overall: The game looks, sounds and feels very good. The one player campaign is good but the online gameplay is very addictive.
Gameplay: There are two reasons why this is a very good game. The first is the control system which feels very natural to use. The second and by far the most important is the online play using Xbox Live.
Graphics: Just look at the explosions and watch as skyscrapers and bridges collapse. You will look on with your mouth gaping open. The animation of the mechs are also super smooth.
Audio: With a high quality 5.1 system with a large active sub installed, you will hear sonic booms everytime a large mech explodes. The whole room shakes with the explosion. The other sound effects are wonderful. The music is nothing special, but then it isn't required in a game of this type.
Suggestions: (1)Improve the lobby system on Xbox live.
(2)Allow people to see their friends ranking.
(3)Remove the brat voice mask.
(4)A powerup that cools down mechs very fast.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Overall: Is this the most over-rated game ever to be released. Don't get me wrong, it is a good game but not great.
Gameplay: The controls are ok, just don't be in a hurry to do anything as you have to use a menu-driven system to control many of Sam's actions. It is not a natural control system which is the bigest flaw of the game.
Graphics: The game looks good to the casual viewer, but not as smooth as it could be. The 3D is not awesome but it is better than many and the textures are very good. Some of Sam's animations are excellent but when he changes from one action to another it is not always smooth.
Audio: It is a stealthy game by nature, so it stands to reason that the sound is minimal, but it does the job required. This is difficault to rate as there is not a great deal of content to work with, but what is there is fine.
Suggestions: An original concept which works quite well, but a better control system could have mmade this game as great as the hype that surrounds it.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 MotoGP
Overall: I have the full version and only really use it for Xbox Live. This game has the best user interface on Xbox Live of any game currently available in the UK. Kudos indeed. The game requires time and skill to master and can be rewarding. It is good but not great, and it hurts your thumb as you have to keep hold of the (A) button. Xbox Live scoring system is the best of all Live games.
Gameplay: I love the fact that you have a seperate front and rear brake control, and the realism of racing is the best I have come accross, and I used to race cars. As I have been around Donnington Park many many times in the past I can say that it is fairly realistic (best attempt so far) feel of how the track runs. The controls however are the best and worst feature of the game, 2 brakes is great but accelerator is crap and makes your thumbs sore vbery quickly. Xbox Live is the only reason I come back. Great demo mode and fantastic extras to unlock, Presentation is excellent, game is average.
Graphics: This is not exactly what you own a Xbox for. It looks almost 16bit, Smooth it may be but where is the detail? Just visit Donnington Park and tell me if you don't notice a fulkl size Spitfire WW2 aircraft next to the track, but not in the game. Why is there not both front and rear pit access? Cramer curves don't seem to have enough camber although better than other games.
Audio: Another Poor effort, but then what do you expect from a bike game? Mostly bike noises although music is good.
Suggestions: I critisize Moto-GP yet I think the developers have done a great job with the subject matter. I find it hard to think of anything to improve it. Better graphics I suppose. Bikes already look good, but the circuits lack real detail.
Overall Score: 6.0 / 10 4x4 Evo 2
Overall: This game is a great laugh, the site reviewer must be mad to not think so. There is no bad eliments what so ever in this solid title. It is 4x4ing at it's most best
Gameplay: The controls are simple and feel perfect for this sort of game. It plays amazingly realistic for an arcade style racer. No complaints, this game is solid.
Graphics: Solid and wonderfully animated. This is par excellence in every way. One of the best on any console.
Audio: Realistic and has exactly what you need, no more and no less. Some would want a great musical score, but that ruin this great game. Basic yet perfect.
Suggestions: When do we get 4X4 evo 4, I can't wait and am willing to pay premium if it can get better than this (but I doubt you can improve on this because it's that good)
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Pirates: Legend of Black Kat
Overall: It's like a really basic RPG in a thord person perspective. Good fun running around doing your pirate thing.
Gameplay: My first RPG, that is a good discription. It's great fun although the camera can drift off and do it's own thing sometimes, but it is easily fixed back into place. This game could be played by children as well as adults, it's nice and simple and above all fun. The story does grab you and the more you play the better it gets. I wasn't sure at the start but now I am trying to complete it and I don't play anything else!!!!
Graphics: The visuals are fine, just fine. There is no glitching or flickering and objects in front of you go semi transparent to make it easier. There are nice side animations like birds, fish, squid, monkeys and butterflies etc.
Audio: The sound is fine and never offensive. It doesn't stay in your head like Jet Set Radio Future does, and it doesn't annoy. It is perfectly balanced and suits the game. The voices are nice to.
Suggestions: Thanko for a great fun game and I hope you make a sequel, preferably with more RPG elements. It would have been good to board other ships and loot them.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
Overall: Hardcore squad based FPS with online play (the only reason to own it) but with dreadfull interface and presentation and the graphics are an insult to the Xbox.
Gameplay: I guess this is the most important part to any game and here is where Ghost Recon shines. The actual game is awesome on Live yet very average offline.
Graphics: Oh dear....... This sucks big time. Simply one of the worse graphically to be seen on Xbox. It is a very dated PC game already and no attempt has been made to Xbox it up.
Audio: It is a seious shooter which means tactics are required. There is no room for music here, just speech and gun fire. I did like the wind noises which added feel to the game but there is nothing really here. It has only what it needs, and although I score it lowly, it is as it should be. If anything was added it would actually spoil this game.
Suggestions: I don't play this game much as the controls are not sharp and the presentation is a mess. The lobby system is good but badly laid out and not clear. The game is good but spoiled. It is also buggy.
If this was updated with better graphics, a whole new lobby and better presentation this could have been the best Xbox Live game, but as it is I just rarely play it.
Overall Score: 3.0 / 10 Blinx: The Time Sweeper
Overall: A platformer with a twist.... Well sort of. It is a typically cute platform game which has you typically collecting things but with a twist.
Gameplay: The twist is that you have a hoover which picks up time crystals. Get 3 the same and you gain a control of your video player which allows you to change your envirionment (time control). It works ok but was a bit of a let down after all the hype. The basic platforming is ok but nothing special
Graphics: Blinx is cute. Girls will love him. The game is colourfull and well drawn the animation is less good though.
Audio: Well it's ok I think, but very forgetable as I can't even remember the sound and I only played it this morning. I don't remember it being too bad or so good so I will score it average
Suggestions: Well, if you can make a game as good as you can hype one then we're in for some great games in the future.
Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 Phantom Crash
Overall: Gran Turismo meets Robot Wars mixed in with Mech Assault. It's a battle arena game with robots you tweek much like a rally car.
Gameplay: It is fairly easy to play, but takes time to master. If this was online it would easily be the best online game ever. Still great in single player
Graphics: Everything is smooth and good. It's kind of war in Tony Hawks back streets but it's gone hardcore yet it's a game show. It's a wierd concept but it works and the graphics are just perfect to create this feel.
Audio: The sound is adequate and well suited to the game. I would not change a thing in this catagory. Perfect.
Suggestions: Make a sequel and make it Xbox Live compatible.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Midnight Club 2
Overall: Midnight Club II is a free roaming Arcade racer with a career mode which enhances the online game. You have to progress in the off line career mode to unlock cars and bikes for the online game.
Gameplay: It's a simple enough racer with the basic controls of steering, throttle, brake, handbrake and several ways to view your vehicle 1st person or third person but you also have Nitrous and something called weight shifting. The big difference with this game is that you get to ride motorbikes or drive cars around 3 fairly real representations of real cities. You get LA, Paris and Tokyo and all the touist atractions that go with them. There are several game types, Career has you racing for pink slips to gain better cars, Online checkpoint racing, Capture the Flag mode and a detonation mode, but my favourite is the cruise mode which allows you to free roam the cities and learn all the secrets of which there are many.
Graphics: The visuals are very good, but look very similar to the PS2 version, which means they could have been a lot better. Still there is little to complain about, but the graphical highlight is Paris.
Audio: There are a number of tunes to listen to and they can be controlled while you are playing via the D-Pad. It would have benefitted with custom sound track but you can't have everything. The car sounds are good and the nitrous/boost sound is just awesome.
Suggestions: This game would have been better if there was no cheat modes which has made everyone cheat just to have any hope of competing on xbox live.
I also feel a Hunter mode like MM3 would have been a wonderfull addition. As the current Battle mode games are fairly boring.
I would have liked to have seen some form of downloadable content, such as new cars and even a new city or two would have made this excellent value for money.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10
