Overall: Hack'n slash dungeons and dragons style game that kept me, and my wife (so must be good!) amused enough to play it all the way through. In fact, I have to say the 2 player co-operative play is one of the best implemented I've ever seen. I perhaps should also note I paid $30AUS for this, so a relatively cheap game... it has certainly wet my appetite to pick up the sequel but not enough that I am willing to pay full price for it... maybe I'm just a tight!
Gameplay: Hack n slash D&D, similar to Hunter the Reckoning I guess, but the D&D element of collecting gold and buying and selling stuff adds a lot more to it than that game.
Graphics: A very polished game. Graphics I guess can always be better but they certainly did what they needed to do.
Sound: Erm... the usual clash of swords, firing of arrows, etc... all very atmospheric and good. Nothing to complain about anyway.
Suggestions: Hmmm... perhaps some more randomness in monster positioning and/or regenerating monsters etc. I guess just something to make me play it again... I certainly intend to keep the game in my library but it will probably collect dust for a year or so now until I suddenly have some strange urge to play it again.

Overall: Good action RPG. The story is original if not slightly confusing at certain times (Lizard man in the swamp, I'm talking about you). Yet a good continuation of the popular series.
Gameplay: Controls do well, yet long range weapons take lots of practice to become proficient in using. Spells usually go off without much problem.
Graphics: While games that use such overhead views sometimes sacrifice details for more room and speed onscreen, BG does well in both. The cutscenes get the job done (and that is the biggest chest I've ever seen on an elf ever). Weapon affects appear clear, yet some enemies could be sharper looking.
Sound: The sounds are kinda dull, and the medieval lute type backgrounds are not driving whatsoever. Yet some creatures (i.e. zombies) keep the game somewhat atmospheric.

Overall: Size does matter. As much as I love this game, the best rpg with multiplayer, I was a little shocked when I reached the finish. yeah there is the gauntlet thing but what I got was a really hard version of what I had already mastered. That being said this is a really enjoyable game. I am a baldur game fanatic for the PC, this console version does not embarrass it self.
Gameplay: I like the game play. especially in multiplayer. I am a little disappointed in the lack of diversity in characters. Things I really like was the quick access to spells. I 3ed rules added to this game.
Graphics: The spells and characters are good. I love that bartender a little too much. Did she get hired for the extreme volleyball team? Its a nice world to explore visually.
Sound: I thought the voice acting was excellent. The sounds were very appropriate and added to the experience.
Suggestions: Make it bigger, add more mini games such as the Gauntlets. Perhaps add some xbox live arena stuff. And definately add more character diversity. Keep up the good work. Perhaps a IWD cross over.

Overall: I liked this game alot when it was on the PS2 and the same goes for the Xbox version. It is a fun game and I lie the weapon selection.
Gameplay: Good controls and and it is a good co-op game for the younger audience because it has the button smash potential.
Graphics: Good graphics and good backgrounds. A game that I am hoping the 2nd one will be at least just as good.
Sound: ok music and an ok sound effects. A couple times the music put me to sleep, but it is still a good game.

Overall: Great game with only a few flaws. Its a good RPG for Xbox, those are rare so its a good buy.The worlds could be bigger with more deph and a bit more entertaining sound, but thats why there Baldur`s 2 coming out at they end of the year. So if u want a CO-OP RPG or singles for that matter , this is the one
Gameplay: Prety simple gameplay for an RPG, but for average gamers it will do. Theres commun things that will repeat themselves, but all games do right?
Graphics: BEST. WATER. EVER. This game has beatiful apeal with ice, snow , sand and other stuff that will knock u out of ur seat!
Sound: Its ok, but could use a little more depht with those without home theaters. But u can hear the caracters speak perfectly fine , so dont worry about missing stuff.
Suggestions: I think u should add bigger vilages and be able to actualy talk to anyone like a real RPG, but the rest is prty good

Overall: an RPG like any other baldur's gate game. it was the first RPG that i played for xbox, and i wasn't dissapointed.
Gameplay: I love game where u can level up and improve yourself. this game does it. spells are really good and the story is okay. i don't know how u could beat it by yourself, so i suggest playing with some one
Graphics: WOW. absolutely amazing. the water is so real. the ripples spread from your body and your enemies bodies and bounce of the walls. spells look very good. enviorments are great.
Sound: sound can be good and bad at times. it adds to the tension, but get repetative.
Suggestions: sequel. more choices for characters to play. thanks for subtitles. when i have music blasting, it's impossible to hear the voices.

Overall: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a fantastic game. There is a sense of overall refinement and polish that makes it hard not to like anything about it. It looks and sounds excellent, and plays even better. A true gem.
What hurts this game's score is the fact that it is almost exactly the same game that was released last year, not that that's a bad thing. The game is a fine example of exceptional game-making. But an extra level or character, or really any added extras would've been great. But, like the old saying goes, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

If you've never played the PS2 version, I couldn't recommend this game enough. It's a rich, artistic game, full of nuance. For those of you who already own the PS2 version, dust off the cover and play it again. NOW.

Gameplay: What is not to love? Pick-up and play controls housed in an addictive shell set in the D&D unvierse. Awesome
Graphics: Exceptional in every aspect. The only thing lacking are next-gen Xbox effects. Now about that sequel...
Sound: Sometimes less is more. May not be for everyone but definitely sets the mood. Great voices too.
Suggestions: not bad... for a ps2 port.

Overall: Played this game for three days nad loved it. After beating it though it got really boring. Coop mode is pretty fun. Not enough lasting appeal to keep me going. good game to rent, not to buy
Gameplay: The gameplay was good. hack n slash madness. not open enough, and the fact that ennemies didnt regenrate really pissed me off. chests always being the same was also quite annoying. Needed some randomization.
Graphics: the graphics were awesome. Couldnt enjoy them too much beacause camera was far away, but was still very imressive.
Sound: Very nice sounds. Backround effects kept it real. Some of the music got tiring, but most of it was ok. and no custom sound tracks :@

Overall: It is a pritty good game. The graphics in are not the best in the world and you don't have the freedom in it that you do in MORROWIND.Baldors gate is a cheap version of it.It is basicly a game gone bad.
Gameplay: You don't have the freedom in it that you would expect from a game like that. What I like most about this game is that you get to buy your new equipment.
Graphics: The visuals of this game suck!It is like playing the arcade version of Dungens and Dragons. The fighting in the game isn't that interesting in it either.
Sound: The sound......well there isn't enough of it.The spell casting sucks. When fighting the sound of the sword is cheepy.
Suggestions: You got to come out with something with more freedom, graphics, sounds, and a better story line.

Overall: Baldurs gate 2: Dark Alliance is a very intriguing game with excellent gameplay. You are introduced to a world of fun and co-op gameplay as well. If you liked Diablo 2, or any D&D games, you'll love this game!
Gameplay: Working with a friend makes the gameplay easier, and more fun, but even without one it's fun! Interacting between human and monster is extremely fine tuned, and battles are very fierce. If you beat the game, you can increase levels of difficulty and the highest is 10X(times) harder than the original level!
Graphics: Visualizations in this game are perfect. The responses of moving water, trees, wind, fire, spells, and everthing is amazing. When in dark corridors your view is limited, since of course, you're in a dark corridor! This game's graphics are not a let-down.
Sound: Musical features within Baldurs Gate 2: DA are as expected with an RPG. Composed features, &qu; songs, with sound effects as you approach corners or monsters. My suggestion, play your own music!
Suggestions: Better music, XBOX live enabled play where you can meet people and make a small team and venture!

Megaherz *RAGE*
Date reviewed: December 26, 2002.

Overall: A couple of month before the release of the Microssoft's X-box,
the Playstation 2 have already receive the first chapter on console of the
fearest role playing game ever made and he will always been called
Baldur's Gate. After one year or more, the compagny who made Baldur's
Gate : Dark Alliance has decided to put it multi-console. I must admit that
this game is two years old but trust me it's a good rent for the Holiday's Season.
Probably that most gamer who didn't have a x-box or don't know which game are coming
soon will think that this chapter of Baldur's Gate is based on the Pc version,
but it's not. In Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance, you are entering a different world, a world
where only one character can fight with the exception of the cooperative mod where you are able to play
with one of your friends and where the original game have nothing similar. Probably, that it seem different because Baldur's
Gate turn itself into a true hack and slash. Finally this game was a good idea but it's only
a port for the Playstation 2 without any modification for the gameplay and the visual, at
least we got the Dolby Digital 5.1.
Gameplay: As a sorcier, i was able to cast some spell with my B button, jump with Y, slash with
A and X did nothing. The control pad can be used for changing your spell or
to equip your character with ranged or melee weapon and naturally the left thumbstick is to move
him. Finally The left and the right trigger is to take instantly a health or a regeneration
potion. If you have already played Gauntlet : Dark Legacy or Hunter : The Reckoning,
you know exactly what Baldur's Gate can offer, but it's in a better way because it
seems that i overated this two game. If not, then i will explain. In Baldur's Gate : Dark
Alliance you can buy some armor, potion, weapon to increase the power of you character,
you can upgrade him with your experience that you gain through the game and have some secondary guest.
The upgrade system is really awesome for a hack and slash who was worthy of this name. The shop
is another great idea but i was wanted more thing to buy and there is not enough but really not
enough sub-quest. This game is also strictly linear, in fact you must go from a point to the other and even
if with the possibility of a other way, it stay linear. This game can be sumarize has getting money,
buy the strongest armor and weapon, killing everyone, make your way through dongeon and reload because
you are dying many times in this game. The strongest point of Baldur's Gate is the multiplayer because the cooperative mod
is always a good idea to have fun but only two player make it a little bit boring. If you could add more character
to choose from, ( only three : an archer, a sorcier and a dwarf ) it could have been great. The badnest point of a
hack and slash is always the angles of camera but with a fully manual system and a higher view, this game has solve the problem.
To conclude there is a lot of work to do here but it's still be a good rent.

Graphics: There is nothing really great in the graphic and i saw a lot better in other game, but
how they could increase them ? Stop, i am asking the wrong question because it must
stay like it. What going on when they increase the graphic too much ? Yes, we are losing
some part of gameplay, so that why i prefer it stays good like this.

Sound: The Dolby Digital 5.1 is a great idea, the voice acting was ok and the music was awesome
( i always liked the middle age music ).

Suggestions: If you want some sugestion, you just need to read the whole gameplay's review. Also i wish you a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Overall: I'll admit that I was sceptical at first. A Baldur's Gate RPG on a Console system!? Even the screen shots still had me a little on edge if you will. Regardless I've been playing the game for weeks now enjoying every minute of it! Sure, as some other reviewers are pointing out that "Dungeon Siege" and "Diablo" this game is not, yet comparing this game to those two is somewhat of an unfair comparison. As we all know, DS and Diablo were MADE for the PC, not for a console system, so the gameplay of those two games shines. BG-DA was MADE for a console. Considering we only have eight buttons to work with on a controller, an RPG can only go so far, unless of course you use the typical turn-based RPG combat system (i.e Final Fantasy). So, if we are to make any comparison this game is close to games like Alundra, and Zelda and any other game that has a real-time combat system. Now at the same time this game can become a basic hack-n-slash game just like Diablo -- nothing wrong with that. Black Isle and Snowblind Studios pulls it off perfectly. The weapons are all balanced out, the three characters work well, and at the same time you can adjust the character you've chosen to be something other than what they are listed as. (My Elven sorceress has a +15 strength wearing full plate mail)and yet can still whip out 144 points of Lightning Ball damage!!) Anyway, once you come to understand what this game offers and the thrill of hacking away at tons of different monsters, collecting the load and loads of different types of weapons, armor, magic rings and amulets you definately begin to feel the fun this game has to offer.
Gameplay: Game play is totally easy. Left thumbstick to move, right thumb stick to move the camera and the camera is set to move the correct direction, none of this push left and camera goes right crap. Triggers are for potions, and there's even a jump button, yet you hardly ever use it. Anybody can get into this game within 15 minutes or less.
Graphics: The graphics are fairly well done. The ice caverns are really the high point of the game. The reflection effects or just the way the ice looks, I dunno, but its really cool to look at. I do wish however that the camera could be moved down a tad bit more so you can see a little farther ahead.
Sound: This is where the game could use some help. The sound is perfect for the game, but it just seems that it could've been some grand considering the story does deal with the town of Baldur's Gate. Something epic or something.
Suggestions: Ok, easy. Make a sequel. Include a larger Baldur's Gate city to explore. Include more people to talk to. Include side quests. Leave the camera the way it is, but make it possible for it to maneuver a little more lower and behind the player character. Change the naked person to a paper outline of your character to show everything worn, or better yet, include both ideas. The music needs to be grand. Use the Xbox's Dolby Digital feature to really lay it on us. Instead of Save Pedestals, we should be able to save at anytime.

Overall: Interesting RPG. It's more hack-n-slash than than the other Baldur's Gate, and has nothing to do w/ the other's storyline. The game play is linear (which isn't bad in a video game), and the story is good, but lacks the NPC's that really "kicked it up a notch" that the other BG's had. If you aren't a D&D player, you'll probably like this game more, b/c they took a lot of freedom w/ the rules. I gave the game a 3.5 instead of a 4 b/c it lacks replay value. I'll rent it one more time to beat it, but I
Gameplay: Snowmutt is just wrong. The gameplay has it's problems, but none that he describes! Monster's drop potions like crazy, there's never been a time where I had to wait for a long time to regenerate. I did have to buy some potions in Act II, but you are making a lot of loot by then. If you use tactics, you can fight up to 3 monsters successfully, if you start your game over after reaching level 2, you'll probably do better also. Unfortunately, BG:DA only gives 3 character choices: Dwarf fighter, Elven Sorceress, and Human Archer. The Dwarf is the best! They screwed the D&D magic system, but tried to make up for it by making the Sorceress very combative also. Unfortunately that doesn't work out that well at the mid levels. FYI: Fireball sucks! Magic Missle is only decent, and when you PAY skill points to increase your spell damage, the energy cost increases more than the damage does. Ranged combat is a little difficult to aim also. Standard RPG rule bend, they increase number of monsters, and thus decrease XP earned so you don't level to quickly. They also increase your hitpoints, which was a great idea considering the former. Armor and To Hit bonuses are both changed. At 8 level I have an AC of 62. Unfortunatley, they didn't increase the stat bonus by the same multiplier, so a high Dex (Archer and Sorceress) character won't be on par armor wise w/o wearing heavy stuff. The AI could be improved too... animals aren't scared of fire (magic), and you can melee a creature that has chosen to attack your buddy, and he'll ignore you. This causes the play to be more Diablo like, than typical RPG. All and all, these actually don't annoy me that much. Controls are nice, rewards seem balanced. They have a nice 3.5 game, but could have done better.
Graphics: Again, Snowmutt's comment about the camera angles seems uneducated. This is not a game I really feel like defending, but how can he play it for 20+ hours and not understand?? When inside you have full control over the camer angles. The reason why, is that b/c of the walls, monsters can be hidden from view unless you turn the camera around. While outside, the maps are drawn different, so they lock the camera angles down in most places. These places are normally small in comparison. This is the general rule. Really, this game is loaded w/ visual appeal. The graphics don't go for realistic, but fantastic. The water is perfect, the ice/snow unrealisticly bright but awesome. Ice blues are perfectly unnatural! I love it. You have to see it to understand. The character models are great... but! But, the animation is smooth, but has terrible buisness (as we actors say). The NPC's sway so much while they talk, you'd think they were on boats. That's really the only bad thing.
Sound: Sound is really good in some parts, the voices are good, but some of the monsters and animals could have used some more sounds.
Suggestions: Support 4 player co-op, more character choices, fix the friggin magic, and w/ 4 players you'll need an "auto-pan out" feature so they still have freedom of movement. For the fire ball, give it a 10 or 5' radius, so it's somewhat like the D&D spell. When I hold down B to cast it, pause the game while I place where I want it to denonate. Since the fighters can just buy weapons for more damage, don't make me spend my few skill points to power up my spells. Power them up for me when I level! Also, burning hands has a 45 degree arc, it isn't a flame thrower!

Gameplay: A tremendous amount of fun. Two player mode is an excellent touch. Lots of replay value as different characters.
Graphics: Excellent and much improved over PS2. Only drawback is that some characters are a little small on the screen.

Overall: Excellent! I wanted a nice light RPG to play and my wish came true. I rented it when a friend was over and all joking aside we played it for 14 hours in a sitting w/o realising the time! Then spent the rest of the weekend washing the radiation from our eyes :P then it was up to EB to purchase it. overall it is an A+
Gameplay: Gameplay is basically Gauntlet style, but Forgotten Realms is way cool and Black Isle is way cooler than midway. . . (sorry midway, but its the truth) My one gripe with this game is that fact that there are 3 player classes but it is only 2 players, This game would be a blast playing 3 or 4 players instead of 2! If you like Hunter : The Reckoning then you will love this! A+
Graphics: The first thing I noticed was the way the game is told in the classic style of a narrator, it really gives you the D&D feel that makes the table top so fun. The way the NPCs are animated is top-notch! The visuals in this are quite good. Not as good as I expected from you Black Isle *shakes fist*. But still good enough, way better than in the BS2 version. I always thought magic missile was red and not blue. The reflective surfaces and the way the water flows as well as the first time you disrupt someone, fortunately makes the saving throw. I give the visuals an A+
Sound: The sound is as good as I could hope. Fireballs sound the way they should, acid burns the way it should, perfect! The voice acting is superb, it almost makes you feel like you are part of the game. A+ for atmosphere, Excellent!
Suggestions: Make 4 to 6 player classes and 4 players. Downloadable content would be cool too, it could make for infinite replay! Keep up the good work!

Overall: Eh.... I just don't like it that much. I played Dungeon Siege on the PC right before I played this game. I liked Dungeon Siege much better. This game is just too tedious and it's just plain out not very enjoyable.
Gameplay: This game basically consists of charging an enemy (one at a time), loosing about 3/4'ths of your heath, and then having to go run and hide in a corner somewhere where the monsters can't see you so you can regenerate your heath meter. IT GETS OLD. I sit there and flip to watch the TV every few minutes while my heath is regenerating. It takes forever and a freakin day. Sure, you can buy heath potions, but you go through those in about 2 seconds.

Another thing I don't like about this game is the perspective on which you view the game world. It's almost like, top down. I wish it was more 3D...real like. The view the designers chose is crappy.

Another thing I don't like is that, after the first little part of the game, you are unable to move the 'camera' around. It's fixed. What type of crap is that? Give me a little freedom here why don't ya? I felt like I was playing a game for the Atari at times.
Graphics: The graphics, althouh, as I said, I can't stand the perspective, are great. It's a shame all that talent was wasted on lame gameplay.
Sound: The sounds and background music is terrific. Very impressed with that. Voice acting is pretty good too.

Overall: If you are even slightly into RPG, then this game is a MUST play. Although not as in-depth as the PC versions of Baldur's Gate, this game still rocks in the areas that count. This game is sooooo addictive, I was waiting for an action/rpg multiplayer game on XBOX, and THIS IS IT!
Gameplay: I'll sum it up real easy like. First off, customize your controls anyway you choose! YAY!!

Good amount of action. Decent assortment of Monsters to take on. Each Monster attacks the way you would expect it to do so.

Graphics: Breathtakingly beautiful for this type of game. Spells are so vivid and well done. The first time I cast "Meteor" I sat back and was like "HOLY SH*T!!s are lush, trees move in the wind, water is amazing (as it usually is on XBOX).
Sound: Sounds was well done. Overall sound was good. Voice acting was excellent. The sounds of battle were pretty good.

I didn't give it a "5" rating just because for some intangable reason I felt that the music could have driven me more.
Suggestions: Definetly make a sequel. Make the game longer. Also, I would like more choices on characters, spells, ect.
