Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Overall: This game caught my eye from its original announcement. I have read all of Tom Clancy's books. The man is brilliant. The original Rainbow Six game is still one of my favorite PC games next to the Sims. So naturally Splinter Cell peaked my interest immediately. Also when it became labelled as a Metal Gear killer I reserved my copy. Being a Metal Gear fan I was anxious to see the creative vision Tom Clancy and Ubi Soft could provide the stealth games genre. ONE OF THE BEST THINGS IS THE EXPANSION. THIS GAME WILL FEATURE DOWNLOADABLE LEVELS TO KEEP THE GAME GOING.
Gameplay: This game has a steep learning curve. It was initially extremely difficult to control Sam Fisher. Once you make it completely throught the training mission you are supposed to be ready to play, but I had to go throught it twice to gain confidence. I love the realism of this game. A couple of time I have been killed in one shot. Sure it frustrating but hey in real life if you get shot in the head, you are gonna be dead. I also like the ability to interact with almost everything in your environment. Shooting out lights to remain hidden. throwing objects to create diversions. I could go on forever.
Graphics: The game depends on its outstanding visuals. The lighting is not only beautiful but it is impirtant to the game. You need to stay in dark areas to remain hidden from the enemies. Absolutely amazing
Audio: Like the lighting. Sound is essential to the game. You need to concentrate on the surfaces you are stepping on. The more noise you make the more enemies will become aware of your presence. Splinter cell features Dolby Digital 5.1. ONE WORD: AWESOME.
Suggestions: Nothing.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Overall: I was really anticipating this title. I had been waiting for it since even before the XBOX was released. As a die-hard fan of the TV show I has been following this games development since it was being developed for the Dreamcast. However since I was also an avid gamer, I was skeptical of what could be accomploished and if it would satisfy gamers. I must say that after a week of playing this game, I am extremely impressed. THIS GAME ROCKS HARD.
Gameplay: The gameplay is smooth and fluent. The fighting controls are easy to learn, with a mix of button mashing and keen fighting sim type moves. There are a few problems with the camera in tight places. However, the game usually corrects the camera quick enough that you dont take much damage (if any). I would like to see more weapons in the game, but all in all this game is a solid Xbox title and is probably in the Xbox top 20.
Graphics: Visually is where this game KICKS MAJOR ASS. It is a beautiful game. The environments are extremely detailed and resemble their TV show counterparts very well. The characters look cool, but the main characters don't look as close to their TV show counterparts as the environments do. Spike, Buffy, and Giles are the most accurate. The vampires turining to dust is so cool, I think they actually outdid the TV show.
Audio: The sound is good. But I feel that this where the developers spent the least amount of time. It is all too repetetive and the dialog from the enemies gets old. The voice acting from the main characters is great however. Buffy's substitute sounds so much like Gellar its creepy.
Suggestions: MORE WEAPONS. AND A longer game would have nice too. BUt as a fan of the show it will last a while with me.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Hunter: The Reckoning
Overall: This game was not even on my radar for so long. I am more of a sports gamer. But since the Xbox came out, I have been looking for excellent multiplayer games. This game is one of the most fun game that involves more than two players I have played.
Gameplay: The gameplay is intuitve and easy to learn. I became comfortable with the control after only a half hour of gameplay
Graphics: Graphically the game looks rather average. I am sure that Resident Evil on the CUBE is more striking but the selling point of this game is that it is multiplayer.
Audio: I think the sound is fine in the game. I cant really comment on it fully because I haven't played on a good sound system.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 MX 2002 Featuring Ricky Carmichael
Overall: I love this game. This is one of the really fun games on Xbox. It may not look good or sound good but it is fun.
Gameplay: The game controls are nice. I wish the trick controls were more like SSX Tricky though because I find the tricks hard to execute.
Graphics: It is basically a port from the PS2 version so I don't that the game looks great at all. It might look good on PS2 but I expect more from my Xbox games.
Audio: The game sounds ok, but the sound is definately nothing to brag about. Once agian I think that the game is just a port of the PS2 version
Suggestions: Make MX Superfly Xbox friendly.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Max Payne
Overall: This game was on my list even before it was announced for Xbox. I was going to get it for my PC. I am glad I didn't because the Xbox version kicks major butt. I love playing this game ove and over again.
Gameplay: The only drawback I can see to this game is the loading. It constantly stops the game to load the next section. But this is a mute flaw compared to all the great things about this game.
Graphics: The game looks good but I think that the charaters can be a little more realistic looking. It seems that there is a lot of Xbox power not used.
Audio: The sounds is the game are nice. I think that they could be better but the sound does keep the game going.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 All-Star Baseball 2003
Overall: I was excited about his game because of its intuitive AI features and that it was declared the best baseball title for Xbox by many people. But it dissappointed me horribly
Gameplay: This game is horrible. I can't even win a game on Rookie mode. The computer is too hard to beat. I have already sold it back in hopes that World Series Baseball 2K3 will be a better game.
Graphics: The game looks good, but so much of the programming went into the AI that it defiantely is not as pretty as Triple Play.
Audio: The game sound fine. It can be a bit better, but then that is the problem with play by play in most sports games.
Suggestions: Make Rookie mode a little easier.
Overall Score: 3.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved
Overall: This game was hyped up for as long as the Xbox system was hyped pre-realease. The game was said to be the killer app. It definately lived up to the hype and I have now beaten it on every level except legendary.
Gameplay: Gameplay and control is very smooth in this game. I feel like the controller is a part of my hands when I play Halo.
Graphics: Graphically, Halo is beautiful. I love to just explore the levels as much as I can because the developers did put a lot of effort into it. I want to see everything they did.
Audio: The sound in the game keeps you on the edge of your seat. Especially once you reach the later levels.
Suggestions: SEQUEL, SEQUEL
