Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Overall: Splinter Cell is everything you look for in a great video game. A compelling story (of course its a Tom Clancy game after all), excellent detail, and awesome equipement are just a few of the goodies this game offers. So why not a five? Well, lack of a multiplayer is understandable but not excusable, and the levels are far too restricting for all the stuff Sam is capable of. but dont get me wrong, youll still have plenty of fun!
Gameplay: This game plays very nicely. Its challenging but not overly challenging and thankfully, there are save points throughout the missions. Although the environments are restricting, you still have a bit of freedom in handling a situation. You can interact nicely with the environment as well as with other people. And plus, its fun to take someone out without him or anyone else knowing about it. hehe
Graphics: This is where this game truely excels. The lighting effects are incredible, and the detail is superb. The weapons and gadgets looks sleek and realistic and are quite impressive. Sams appearance and movements are so lifelike you feel as if he truely exists. The same goes for all the NPCs too. Splinter Cell has some of the best graphics around.
Audio: The game sounds wonderful, everything, the score, the voice acting, the ambient noise, is well done and doesnt need changing. Kudos.
Suggestions: A multiplayer would be great. And give Sam more freedom!
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Pirates of the Caribbean
Overall: What a wonderful game this would have been had they fixed all the bugs! The sad thing is, I would have given a higher score if there were not so many glitches. Aside from that, this game has plenty of likeable features namely the graphics. The water effects are brilliant and the ships are too. You can trade legally or illegally, each has its pros and cons. Fighting on land is somewhat dull, but fighting on the sea in ships is challenging and one of my favorite parts of the game.
Gameplay: I guess this game would classify in the same genre as Morrowind as a freeform RPG. Don't let those three letters scare you though, you just control how your character becomes stronger which is why its called an RPG. The controls for the game are pretty simple for land, but it will take quite a while to learn to control your ship at sea. In other words the controls aren't my favorite part of the game. There a decent amount of stuff to do (not near as much as Morrowind) which could possibly throw in some replay. But, no matter how fun this game is, it was ruined for me by the glitches.
Graphics: Like I said before, the water effects are stunning esp. during a storm. Each town looks unique and look very nice, but the environments outside of town aren't as good. The character models aren't the greatest either. My main gripes however, are the framerate drops and the loading. Almost everytime you open a dialogue box the framerate falls. While walking on land, every two steps you take requires a loading sequence it seems.
Audio: POTC sounds wonderful. The score isn't Halo, but it works well for the time period. Canons sound like canons, guns sound like guns, ect. What little voice acting there is, its very good.
Suggestions: I probably say this for a lot of games, but, don't rush! Take your time to fix the bugs!
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 MechAssault
Overall: This game has potential, it just never uses it. Overall, its average, it brings nothing new to the gaming world and it really doesnt excel at anything. Dont get me wrong, youll have loads of fun playing it but, it wont last long at all. there is virtually no replay at all.
Gameplay: The single player campaign isnt interesting, the story is boring and the combat involves running around your target firing your best weapon. The main reason for that is because the enviromnents are mostly flat and restricting. The multiplayer on the other hand is a bit more entertaining. The live support is fun and so are the modes of play, but, like I said before, you just run in circles while fighting.
Graphics: The visuals just dont quite live up to what you see on Halo or Splinter Cell. Everything just needs more detail. That is everything except the explosions. The way buildings collapse, the way the mechs explode, the way bridges fall, is very realistic and alot of fun to watch. In fact, it was my favorite part about the game. If only everything else looked just as nice...
Audio: I have no grips whatsoever for the sound. The weapons and voices all are well done, and the explosions are wonderful. The score could use a little help but everything else is great.
Suggestions: Spend a little more time on the game. It just didnt impress me or inspire me at all. Time and patience would have made this a good game.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Brute Force
Overall: Brute Force is an interesting squad based shooter which allows you to control four specialized commandoes to work as a team. However being incredibly fun, it doesnt raise the bar for the genre and really doesnt offer anything new to the XBOX. It has a lack of depth and the story just isnt interesting. But, this games true strength is in the Multiplayer.
Gameplay: Digital Anvil seems to have copied Halo with their controls. And it works wonderfully. The fact that you can play as four different characters each with their own distinct special abilities creates a large amount of tactics. Even with the restricting levels, there are many ways in which you can handle a situation because of this. Giving your team orders is simple as is switching between them. However my major grunt is that the single player campaign seems rushed and non-detailed. I just had no enjoyment in playing through the game a second time. The multiplayer on the other hand is very fun and so is the Co-Op mode for the campaign. Digital Anvil really did a nice job with that.
Graphics: Visually, this game did not impress me at all, the environments are small and un-detailed and the explosions were boring and dull. the characters motions were fluid and lifelike though and the weapons looked really nice. But, unfortunatly, the graphics dont come near what the XBOX is capable of.
Audio: The SFX in this game are great. Everything sounds as it should from the weapon fire to the explosions. The character voices fit the characters and some of the lines they say are very funny. The music is fitting and not annoying (unlike Morrowind where I had to mute the TV and listen to the radio). Overall, this game is quite a treat to the ears.
Suggestions: Spend a little more time on the Campaign mode, you had the right idea, just not enough of it. Work harder on the environments as well, they need help.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Elder Scrolls III : Morrowind
Overall: This is the best game I've played since Goldeneye. This awesome game has very few flaws, which surprized me. I've really never been a big fan for RPGs (probably because of the fact that you couldn't do much outside of the main storyline. But in Morrowind, you can practically do whatever you want.
Gameplay: I can easily recommend this game to anyone. Especially if you don't like RPGs. This game is so much different than all the other RPGs that you can hardly even call this an RPG. In fact, this game has so much replay value and things to do that a 5 hardly justifies this games replay. A new classification is almost required just so this game can be rated fairly.
Well enough of that, the controls are fairly easy to get used to especially if you've played Halo (Which I assume you have). They are basic enough to provide simplicity to do the basic functions such as walking, swordfighting, talking, opening doors, ect. yet complex enough to provide depth such as spellmaking, stealing, enchanting, and leveling up.
When speaking about the time it takes before you will get tired of this game...well...I have no idea. So far I've played this game for +50 hours and yet I still play it whenever I can. Even in the smallest villages there are numerous things to do and explore. Considering all the different ways you can play this game, I may never get bored with this game.
Graphics: The environments are...enormous. I always am amazed by the sheer vastness of Vvardenfell(the make believe world where this game takes place). However, I notice two issues this game has graphically that prevent it from receiving a 5. First, is the sight range, you can't see very far around you, and second, there is occasional slowdown, but that is uncommon.
Audio: The music is appropriate considering the time period this game takes place. The sound effects are were they need to be and sound as they should, the footsteps, the spells they are all sufficient.
Suggestions: Remove the slowdown somehow and allow your character to see further.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Blood Wake
Overall: This game has so much potential. This game is basically a shooting fest on the ocean. It's very fun, but doing the same thing over and over again gets old quick. Add to that a frustrating level of difficulty, and you have a mediocre game at best.
Gameplay: There are 3 difficulty levels to choose from to try and provide replay value, however, all it adds is frustration and discouragement when trying to unlock some of the best ships.
As for the gameplay itsself, it is fun...for about a week. The physics are marvelous and the weapons are diverse and useful in their own way.
Graphics: This is where the game has it's biggest advantage. The water effects are stunning and very accurate. Eye Candy at its sweetest. The detail on the boats is good and so are the surroundings.
Audio: The music is not very strong. In fact, I found it repetitive and annoying at times, definitly not a plus. The sound effects though are appropriate and superb.
Suggestions: More game modes would be a huge advantage as well as customizable boats.
Overall Score: 6.0 / 10 James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire
Overall: I have always been a Bond fan. His style, Grace, and sexual appetite have always inspired me. Because of this, I play and love all of the Bond games. This game was especially appealing to me because it wasn't based on a movie so that I don't already know the story. This fact added an extra touch to the game in my mind.
Gameplay: There are only a few reasons as to why I gave this game a 4.5 instead of a 5.0. Mainly, I didn't like the Multiplayer levels, they seemed small and monotonous. Although a minor letdown, still it hurts. The controls however can be customized (which is necessary if you've played Halo) to your own liking.
In terms of single player, you have to complete 12 various levels that offer their own unique experience. Whether in a car or on your feet, you'll be rewarded points for how well you portray Bond. At the end of the level, the points are tallied and if you did well enough, something will be given to you.
Other than that the gameplay is smooth and interesting, but it could have been more challenging.
Graphics: The graphics are almost great. Why almost? The faces are kinda screwed up in the cutscenes and that is all. Everything else runs smoothly and appears as it should.
Audio: The sound is everywhere it should be...almost. The only problem I had with the sound was the repetition of the Bond Theme. They play it way too often in this game. Otherwise the everything else is appropriate in the sound section.
Suggestions: First of all, better multiplayer levels would be awesome. Second of all, the game should be a bit more challenging.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Dead or Alive 3
Overall: All I can say is Wow. The graphics on this game are unbelievable. The stages, the characters all of them are remarkable. Unfortunately, that is just about all this game can offer.
Gameplay: The fighting is very monotonous because you can only have 1-on-1s on all the stages. That's it. The fighting can quickly become dull because of this.
Graphics: This is without a doubt, the strongest aspect of the game. In fact this is probably the best game in terms of graphics you can find.
Audio: The sounds are mediocre. The shouts and yells define each character appropriately, but the music was bland and repetative.
Suggestions: More things to do in this game other than simple duels would be an excellent plus.
Overall Score: 6.0 / 10 NHL Hitz 2002
Overall: This is definitely a good game...for about one week. The major flaw in this game is that it is very boring. No matter how goodd the Graphics are, no matter how good the sound effects are, a boring game is still boring.
Gameplay: Very basic. You try and hit a puck into a goal, and that is about 95% of this game. Personally, I found the controls to be difficult to learn as well.
Graphics: This game has good graphics, and thats that. However you're supposed to have excellent graphics on the x-Box.
Audio: Very appropriate, the croud, the checks, the goals, all have their own sound that defines hockey.
Suggestions: Different things to do. Make the Franchise and Tournament modes shorter. Somehow give it replay,
Overall Score: 6.0 / 10 Project Gotham Racing
Overall: Oh yeah. In my opinion this is X-Box's best racing game. The cars are awesome, the circuits are awesome, the cities are awesome, and so is the replay value.
This just isn't a racing game, but a racing game where style is necessary. There is a mode where you just have to race, and I like this mode for showing off my awesome cars. There is a mode devoted purely to style, and trust me, it is extremely difficult but fun.
And finally, there is a mode that mixes them both together (my favorite).
Gameplay: The controls are very easy to learn, and provides with excellent handling and control for you various cars. Eventually, you'll discover that some cars are meant for racing while others are meant for stylin'. Your fellow opponents can race dirty, or clean it just seems to depend. My only gripe is that the game gets really difficult after a while.
Graphics: As with most X-Box games, Prodject Gotham Racing provides with excellent detail on everything esp. the cars.
Audio: Very nicely done, you can listen to actual radio stations in each of the 4 cities you'll race in. The car engines sound great, and you can almost determine the car you are using just by listening to the engine.
Suggestions: Crashes better car crashes would be awesome.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved
Overall: Halo: The legendary game that has been talked about for over a year. Do to a fortunate chain of events, Halo has ended up on the X-Box. Halo has a whole list of things to be proud of such as: Game of the Year, Sold over 1 million copies, and becoming on of the most famous games of all time. I could go on and on for a very long time if I wanted.
However, if seeing all of Halo's accomplishments isn't enough, then you just need to play it. The environments are extremely detailed considering the size of them. The weapons while small in number are diverse and unique and are loads of fun. The Plot is unpredictable, deep and is very entertaining.
In short, every aspect of this game is among the best around.
Gameplay: The controls are beautifully laid out on the X-Box controller. In all reality, I don't enjoy FPS very much if you don't even have a trigger to fire the weapon.
Other than the controls, the action is very intense with amazing physics and sound effects. Watching aliens fly after being hit by a rocket never looses its entertainment value.
However, I know as well as you do, Halo will be remembered because of it's vehicles. Yes you will be able to pilot 4 different vehicles; each unique and useful in most situations.
Graphics: All I have to say is WOW. The cutscenes, the explosions, the environment, or the vehicles. Each has tremendous detail and smoothness. Very rarely, and I mean very rarely is there slowdown in the screen rate.
Audio: Not much to say here, it seems nowadays that this is the most improved-upon aspect of video games. The music is appropriate and sets the mood properly while the sound effects are believable and sharp.
Suggestions: More guns and vehicles
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10
