Description

Earth. Twenty-second century. Five years after the rebellion on Mars.

For 15 years, Chancellor Victor Sopot has oppressed the people of the Commonwealth. His corrupt rule and a relentless war of unification with the United Republic has left the Commonwealth bloodied and impoverished. As distant battles rage, sewage taints Sopot City's rivers, pollution smudges the sky, and wretched citizens huddle in crumbling ruins. The Public Information Building, built by the dictator as a tribute to himself, broadcasts lies about Sopot's bravery and the Commonwealth's military victories.

Condemned to death by Chancellor Sopot, six super-soldiers unite to save their country, vowing to overthrow Sopot using the unique powers that nano-technology has given them. Join the squad as Alias, a demolitions expert. Fight side-by-side with Molov, Repta, Shrike, Tangier, and Quill--each possessing unique attributes and specialties. Battle through diverse environments using vehicles, an arsenal of specialized weapons, and explosives in a mission to overthrow the government. Defeat Sopot and restore the honor of the Commonwealth!

Overall: This is what happens when you fix something that isn't broken. That thing being GeoMod technology. The gameplay in the first was good, yes, and the story was pretty good, can't argue that, but the GeoMod was awesome. Blasting holes through walls that stretched for miles and miles and miles was just awesome. Especially the driller vehicles, man you could you dig through a cave like nobody's business. So when I heard new and improved GeoMod, I didn't know they meant "sparsely used". Basically, you cant blow through anything, anymore. There are a couple bridges here and there where you can shoot a rocket and blow it up. That's it. I have no idea why this game gets ranked so high. The multiplayer wasn't even that good. I highly recommend playing the first. The multiplayer was better (especially the lobby level with the nuclear launcher was the best EVER) and the storyline was better too.
Gameplay: Well it does have the basics down. Tight controls, unlockables, solid framerate. It's just with the GeoMod being far worse than it's predecesor it's hard not to look at the game as a step backwards. I have no idea what was going through their heads. Like the first one, your just a measely labor worker when a fight with a guard insues, then a riot begins, and you basically just slowly but surely become more badass. I just don't get that feeling from this. It feels like a sub-standard shooting affair. And some of the automatics have like zero range in this game, like need to be point blank to connect a hit kind of low range.
Graphics: Single player looks a lot better than multiplayer. Bots aren't of any particular fun other than maybe than pretending you have real friends. The pictures above guns when you pick up are very obtrusive and can fill up a screen with lots of dropped weapons. However, as single player goes, everythings good even in 2005. Nothing spectacular but still solid enough.
Sound: One area of the game that excels just as well as the first. Voice, music, and sound effects are all solid, though the death grunts/moans just seem overexaggerated and aren't particularly convincing.
Suggestions: Full, extensive use of Geo-Mod, not just in certain areas of the game.

Overall: This is a decent FPS with an enjoyable single player story, it really shines in multiplayer mode though, and is worth a look purely for this.
Gameplay: Okay so there's nothing you won't have seen in a dozen other FPS games but, what Red Faction does it does smoothly and simply. Good array of weapons and some cool destrucable scenery.
Graphics: Visually it sits firmly in the mediocre camp, particulary on xbox. Not a visual disaster just a little on the bland side.
Sound: No such problems with the sound, big meaty explosions and a nice movie-esque soundtrack set the mood nicely.
Suggestions: Let's see the xbox used to it's potential.

Overall: Good game . I liked the multiplayer on it.It's bots pissed me off though, they knew where I was all the time
Gameplay: The game was great. The multiplayer On it was the main highlight. I play with bots and human friends.
Graphics: The visual for this game is pretty good. I think that they could've made a bit of a change on some of the graphics. But there also wasnt enough blood.
Sound: The music on the game was ok, But the sound effects were great. Like the explosions were realistic and all.
Suggestions: I like your game a lot, Keep up the good work.

Overall: This game is cool! First of all, I can?t find the multiplayer mode! Where?d it go? That was the best thing about this game, blowing up walls and stuff in deathmatchs. Does THQ think this crappy bot match they included is going to keep me quite? No, I totally want to find the Multiplayer mode, it?s got to be hear somewhere!

Anyway, no point in dwelling on what?s not hear (but let me know if anyone finds this lol). Ok really now, the game?s single player starts with a quick mission you have to do as a member of the bad guys (or you?re dressed as one, not sure), then after that you get to be a member of the revolutionary opposition. The game introduces you to the team members in a cool fashion with everyone doing a task that gives them their name. Basically you are taken through a very, very smooth single player mode. There is a quick load every here and there, but you start in a building raid, quickly get into an Air vehicle to continue your pursuit, then break contact with your team and have to regain communication. All this in a smooth transitioning storyline, very impressive as compared to many other games I have been reviewing (then again, army games usually have missions, and no smooth storylines whatsoever).

So, not bearing the missing multiplayer mode, this is definitely an A, however, since it?s missing a multiplayer feature, it goes down to a B-!
Gameplay: The gameplay is fun even though there is no multiplayer. I enjoy the storyline and everything, it can be a little hard to control sometimes, but not bad.
Graphics: The Geo-Mod feature is phenomenal once again and is smoothly interlaced in the single player with bonus objectives hidden in some areas and behind breakable walls as well as some primary objectives. The weapons and graphics are also sweet at lower resolutions. There was no slowdown for me as compared to many recent games I?ve reviewed.
Sound: There isn't much to say about sound, the score isn't so bad, I guess the sound effects are cool too.
Suggestions: Include Xbox Live support next time.

Overall: over all it's a good game, not extremely original, and nowhere near the quality of Halo and Brute Force, But those two are in a class of their own. I can't really say that its a bad game, its just that it isn't excellent. The single player was fun, and just long enough. The multiplayer was fun too.
Gameplay: fun arcade shooter. . . The multiplayer reminded me of Godeneye for the N64. . . Hours and hours of retarded fun. . .
Graphics: It looked decent enough, although a little ps2ish. . . The Videos are an excellent demonstation visual and audio quality. By far the best part of the game
Sound: The sound was good enough. I'm giving this a 5 because of the quality of the speech in the videos. I strongly reccommend anyone that is making videos in their games to take example from this excellent piece of work!
Suggestions: Live play, system link, X-box exclusives. . . and just keep up the good work

Overall: Decent game. Liked the geomod. Was pretty neat to blast through the walls. It wasn't really special. Typical shooter.
Gameplay: The vehicle parts were fun. Playing through the game was pretty standard. I would really only rent it cause after you beat it once its not really fun anymore.
Graphics: Geo mod does a lot in terms of destroying a lot of stuff. Graphics are ok. Cutscenes looked terrible. Liek n64 graphics.
Sound: Annoying music. Bad gun sound effects. Terrible voice acting. This game's sound sucked horridly!!!!!!
Suggestions: Make a game that is not so predictable and standard. And don't put a bunch of phony reviews about stuff that isn't that good on the box.

Overall: To me this was a great game I had weeks of fun with this game.I was shocked to find that the graphics were outstanding.
Gameplay: The game play to this game was cool, common, but cool.It was a good game.It is one that you can put down and pick it back up again and start playing it again.
Graphics: Th graphics were outstanding.I loved the fact that you are able to spray the enemy with a large number of weapons.
Sound: The sound was cool.It wasn't as good as some other games, but they were good.

Overall: Playing this game is a blast. There are many guns that you can choose from and lots and lots of charcters. I like the way the health was set up. You have basically 3 chances before losing your total amount of life. This was cool but rather easy. The control of the gun is rather easy once you get used to it. But at the beggining it is very weird! It is very sensitive. As high said, "vanilla" actually describes parts of it pretty well. Like the developers kidna put, too much work into the screen so you were like woa, so much to look at kinda like steel battlion. I happen to like the story and evrything flows pretty nicely, but some levels are pointless and dumb! Great game though for HARDCORE fps type people like me.
Gameplay: Controls are very sensitive. Although there are a pretty large variety of moads you can do such as single player or multiplayer the gameplay just doesn't deserve more then a 4 :). Multiplayer is cool, but I think they should put in invertedand nomral aiming. up is up and down is up. Have two of these but istead it is just inverted. Game smooths nicely though.
Graphics: Visuals are very nice! The exploding walls and environment is a cool touch! I really like the visuals. The guns look great! with the number on the side of the gun counting down amm left. This was cool! The characters look sweet, the cutscenes look sweet and the enemies are even sweeter! Shooting them in right between the eyes makes them collapse helplessly. I really like these visuals!!
Sound: There is TONS AND TONS OF voices in this game. Every couple mintues youy hear a voice for a new objective through your communication set. Even when your really far away or an explosion sets off the voices become unclear and juggling. The enemy voices are coo lthe gun and explosions are coo ljust the enemy voices sound weird and differnet. Pretty good though.
Suggestions: Fix the gameplay a bit!

Overall: I enjoyed this game quite a bit. Although it was fairly short (the single-player campaign), you can never have too many good, smooth FPSs. The multiplayer (especially with bots) adds some replay value, although it's hard to understand how they could not include system link play.
Gameplay: Almost perfect FPS play. Excellent choices of weapons, all very balanced (i.e, there is not an uber-weapon to be used at all times - the weapon to use will depend on the situation). The Geo-Mod engine is pretty cool too (this allows you to blow up walls, etc and create new pathways). Most of the vehicles are fun (except the sub): especially the battle armor. The first half of the game is very easy, but then it gets harder when you run up against your former nano-enhanced teammates.
Graphics: It's OK; nothing to write home about. About what you would expect from a PS2 port. In terms of other FPS ports, it's better than Turok, but not as good as Timespitters.
Sound: Again, nothing truly note worthy. Good explosions, decent voice acting. The only thing I really liked were the incessant "Big-Brother" type rantings by Sopot (over PA systems everywhere).
Suggestions: Live or SystemLink (duh)

Overall: Overall, its a good game. The one thing that disappointed me the most was the lack of geo-mod in multiplayer. Only certain walls are able to be blown up, which takes the whole strategy element out of geo-mod. You can no longer tunnel thru walls to get to the enemy flag room, etc.
Gameplay: The gameplay is good. Single player and multiplayer are both fun to play, but there is lack of many multiplayer game types. However, the number of maps is extremely large, and you can include up to 5 bots (if you are playing alone, 6 players is max, meaning 2 players means only 4 bots). Plus, you can create your own bots, give them characteristics, etc.
Graphics: Visuals looks bad for the most part. The weapons and some character models look good, but the textures and blurry and not detailed. But thats what you get from a PS2 port...inferior visuals.
Sound: You will not notice anything great about the sound, but what you will notice is that there is nothing bad about it either...not much else to say about sound.
Suggestions: Bring back geo-mod fully for multiplayer, and where the hell is Checkmate? Its only the most popular CTF map for RF1 online

Date reviewed: April 6, 2003.

Overall: Game starts off fairly basic - infiltrate compound. The cool thing about the start is that you are introduced to the Geo-Mod engine that runs Red Faction. Everything is destroyable; walls, towers, vehicles. Need a hole to shoot someone through? Grenade the wall and create your own hole. How cool is that.

As you procede through the game I got a sense of a Halo/Minority Report style setting. Nothing too special but there is something beneath the whole package that I have yet to find.
Gameplay: Gameplay is fairly reminicent of other FPS. The really cool thing is that you can make a TOTALLY customize your controller configuration, by remaping every single button available. This is what everygame needs to include.

The mouse-look is smooth and responsive, though not as responsive as the best FPS I've played on Xbox so far: Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Since you can remap the controls there's really no reason to complain or gripe about the game play since you can setup the game to your hearts content.
Graphics: Feels and looks like Halo 1.5. The Geo-Mod engine make the game react more visually to the explosions making damage control a new profession! ;) Some of the textures seem pretty plain and others add just a little spice to an average look.
Sound: Nothing real special here. Though it is really cool to have Bishop, oh I man, Lance Henriksen as your groups leader voicing his orders and comments every so often.
Suggestions: Game's not bad. System Link was definately needed, as we all know that it was taken out of the development plan not so long ago. VERY BAD IDEA.

RF3 = System Link, Xbox Live. 8 - 16 Players.
