Dead or Alive 3

Overall: This is the best fighting game on Xbox to date, and possibly the best fighting game ever made. It has an addictive fighting style, expansive levels, multitier environments, pixel shading, vertex shading, and, well... she kicks high.

Gameplay: The game is easy to get the hang of, the levels are fun, the characters are nice, and the controls are quick and responsive. The only flaw in the game, is they always speak in Japanese, but this isn't really a flaw. Even though it's subtitled, the story makes no sense whatsoever. There is no decipherable story to speak of. Otherwise the game is great.

Graphics: This is one of the games with best graphics on Xbox. The character models are very nice, the levels are great, and the animations are the best in any fighting game ever made.

Audio: The sound is excellent. If you have a home theater system, it supports dolby digital, the kicks sound solid, and if you get slammed into a ten foot tall icicle, you can actually feel it. You can't burn your own songs, but you don't really need to because there usually isn't much music in fighting games anyway.

Suggestions: In DOA4, make more onlockable features (levels, characters, costumes, moves, other cool stuff.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Kabuki Warriors

Overall: some might say this game is marginally playable. I's marginally playable, if having hot forks shoved in your eyes is "marginally enjoyable"
Some may also say Xbox has a low selection of fighting games, all of which are bad. This is partially true. The only good fighting game out by May 2002 is DOA3, and some would argue that this is the best fighting game ever made. It's that good. Kabuki warriors is that other fighting game.

Gameplay: The basic idea of this is that it's a japanese winner take all game. You advance through the game and get money for winning. You can then do your 'kabuki dance' to impress the crowd, which will maybe help you win. This might sound fun, but it's not really. Do yourself a favor and buy DOA3.

Graphics: This game could have been put out on Super Nintendo and been an average looking game. It is not at all up to Xbox standards. When you or the opponent loses, there is a big squirt of blood, and it's so unconvincing, so unrealistic, I actually laughed the first time I saw it. The second time I also laughed. The third time I punched through my T.V., ripped out the game, and fed it to my dog. The graphics were that bad. (By the way, it's 2d, not 3d).

Audio: The sound isn't really as sad as everything else in the game, but then again, the sound can't be that bad, unless you purposely make it bad. There is pretty much japanese oriental music the whole time, and the whips and slashes are somewhat bearable.

Suggestions: If you make a Kabuki warriors 2, then try and make it 3d, more realistic, better graphics, and more addicive fighting style. Basically change the game alltogether.

Overall Score: 3.0 / 10 Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee

Overall: This is a great adventure/ puzzle game. It takes a lot of thinking and planning, because for once you're not more powerful that the enemies (like in some of Halo, Nightcaster, ect.)

Gameplay: It's not an easy game. You switch between the mainly aquatic munch, and abe, who cannot swim to solve puzzles, get out of levels, and save mudokens. The controls are relatively simple, and the basic idea is you talk to the people you find to help you, and give them various commands on what to do. The game is very deep, and there are powerups to find, switches to hit, bad guys to fight, and many other things to do. Two of the coolest points in the game are possesing, and remote control. Abe can posses other enemies most of the time, and then walk around with them, activate things with them, and even shoot other weaker, smaller enemies. Munch can control giant claws from the ceiling to pick up enemies and dispose of them in various ways, pick up explosives, and take control of various robots.

Graphics: The graphics in Munch's Oddysee are great. Everything looks realistic, and they are definetely up to Xbox standards.

Audio: The sound effects and voice commentary are awesome, but sometimes the game can be a little quiet (no option to burn music, but its not really nessasary).

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Fuzion Frenzy

Overall: This is an all out party game, which is fun if you're playing with your friends. Playing by yourself is pretty boring, so buy this if you usually have a lot of friends over that are bad at video games, or if you own every other good game for Xbox, and have a lot of money. This game is very similar to mario party, without the lame board game style of play. Younger kids may also like this game.

Gameplay: Some mini games are fun (sumo, floor drilling game) while others absolutely suck (bugsplatting, fireworks setting off). You might say it depends on your personal preference, but it doesn't. Some games are so inexcusably bad that no one could possibly like them even a little. However, most of the mini games are fun and playable. Once again, Fuzion Frenzy is only fun if you're playing with your friends.

Graphics: This game isn't bad, but the graphics don't really make much of a difference on party games like fuzion frenzy. It could have been done on Atari 2600, and still be just as fun.

Audio: The sound in this game is sad. The games sound kind of weak and lame, and the characters horrific comments don't add to the game at all. To bad you can't mute the voices. The ability to listen to custom soundtrack greatly adds to the game though, even if you only get to listen to 30 seconds of the song (its better than the techno the developers put in the game. Whatever kind of music you listen to, it's better than the music that comes on the game).

Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Blood Wake

Overall: This is a decent boat game which didn't live up to the massive hype everyone gave it. The graphics were good, and the boats are cool, but the game is really lacking a decent story, fun missions, and cool boat handling.

Gameplay: Most of the boats are kind of slow, especially if you're in a big open area. Once you get moving fast, the boats aren't that hard to control, but when you're either moving slow or stopped the boats don't turn very well, and kind of rock (they're also slow to respond). Maybe this is o.k., because that's what it's like in real life, but it's still not as fun as it could have been. The weapons are kind of lame, but the boats react to the waves realisticly, which is pretty cool. The story mode is really lame, because there are no cutscenes, just a narrator talking while you see pictures.

Graphics: The waves and water in this game look beautiful. They make the water in transworld surf look like ps2 graphics. The waves have realistic physics, and they look real. You actually think you are in the middle of the storm, it's that immersive. The boat models are great, but the land is horrible. The sand is just a tannish blob, and the grass is a greenish blob. The mountains and walls aren't anything ps2 and gamecube couldn't do. Other than this minor flaw, the graphics are great.

Audio: The boats sound realistic, the weapons are o.k., and the water and storms sound excellent. With a decent subwoofer you can actually feel the waves slamming up against your boat, or you actually feel like you're getting hit with torpedoes and rockets. There is no option to burn your own music, but the game doesn't nesassarily need it. Those drums get pretty old pretty fast, though.

Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Mad Dash Racing

Overall: This is the only game of its kind on Xbox. You'd think a game like this is aimed more at kids, but it isn't. It's hard, and it also has a teen rating. There are ten huge levels, but they might get old after a while.

Gameplay: The controls are simple. Jump, run, and fly/dash/bash. However, swimming and climbing are difficult and annoying. You must rotate the right analog stick, while steering. This is kind of difficult. It's also hard to get used to the shortcuts, and in order to get them you have to know about them ahead of time. If you know all the shortcuts, and your playing against a friend, they won't get them the first time. This makes the races get old, and its unfair for your friend

Graphics: The graphics in this game aren't bad, but they're nothing phenomenal. It has some interesting shading techniques used, and the characters look kind of unique.

Audio: The sound in this game is somewhat decent. The sound effects are o.k., but the game has a small selection of songs. What the game is really lacking is the ability to burn your own soundtrack. With this feature, the game would be much more enjoyable.

Overall Score: 6.0 / 10 Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding

Overall: This is the best snowboarding game on xbox so far. It's better than ssx, but it's more of a sim, while ssx isn't. It's hard to get the hang of it, so your friends may not like it.

Gameplay: Its very much a sim. A lot of people dislike it because it's very hard. The controls can get kind of confusing, because you learn tricks as you go, and it takes a second after you press the button for the boarder to do the trick. Doing tricks for the media is cool, and beat the pro also adds to the gameplay.

Graphics: This is the best graphics of a snowboarding game on xbox. It easily tops ssx. The player models are o.k., but the animations are excellent and the snow is very realistic.

Audio: The sound is decent, but the falls are kind of lame. The voiceovers from the photographers are kind of cool, and the game has a good soundtrack (150+ songs).

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Project Gotham Racing

Overall: This is a great racing game, with solid graphics, cool cars, and a nice selection of courses. You should buy this game if you're really into racing games and already own Rallysport, if you're a huge street racing fan, or if you want a difficult racer with plenty of levels.

Gameplay: The controls are relatively easy, but the racing style takes a while to get used to. There are a lot of square and hairpin turns, which means beginners will hit many walls. It's not nessasarily a game your non-gaming friend will be able to pick up and have fun with. It is deep, but you can't really customize the cars (besides the colors). The street races and kudos challenges are fun, but sometimes you'll get stuck on a level, and you can't move on until you beat it. This is annoying, if you're bad at a certain type of level.

Graphics: The graphics in this game are up to Xbox standards, but not better than Rallysport. The damage modeling is excellent, but the cars can take a lot more than they could in real life. The car models look great, but the backgrounds and the buildings look flat (like in many ps2 games).

Audio: The sound is good. The collisions are o.k., but they could have a little more bang in them... the hum of the motor and the skid of the tires are realistic. The sound has a decent built in soundtrack, but the game also has the option of creating your own soundtrack.

Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x

Overall: This is a great tony hawk game, due to the huge selection of levels, and good graphics. The five new levels really aren't that great, but if you really love tony hawk 1 and 2, or you don't own them, then you should buy this

Gameplay: This is basicly the same gameplay as the other Hawk games. The controls are just about the best in any extreme sport game. This game might get old quickly though, if you already have tony hawk 1 and 2

Graphics: This is the best graphics out of any tony hawk game. The graphics are actually better than in tony hawk 3, due to the superior vertex shading, superior bump mapping, and volumetric grass. There isn't really that much of a difference, but tony hawk 3 is more of a port with an extra level.

Audio: The sound is great. The falls are crisp, the board is realistic, and the ability to add your own soundtracks really adds to the game.

Suggestions: Make a tony hawk greatest hits, with all the levels from tony hawk 1 all the way to 4 (when it comes out). Also make the games harder to beat (they're to easy for tony hawk experts).

Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved

Overall: Anyone that knows anything about video games has heard of Halo. Many people have bought their Xbox just because of Halo. Can we say "Best first person shooter ever?" There are absolutely no flaws in the game whatsoever. If you own an Xbox, you have to own this game.

Gameplay: The game is easy to pick up, yet there is plenty of room to improve. You can sit down with some friends and they will instantly pick it up, or you can play by yourself for hours and not get bored. The game is still not old after several months of owning it, due to the expansive multiplayer options, co-op mode, the varying difficulty settings, the expansive levels, the vehicles, and the weapons. This is one of the most fun and addictive games ever made.

Graphics: When it was released Halo was the best graphics on any console, and possibly still is. The framerate is excellent, with bump-mapping, clear textures, and a ton of other technical stuff, this game looks awesome.

Audio: The sound in Halo is phenomenal. I myself have a dolby 5.1 setup, and it adds a ton to the game. The sounds are all crystal clear, and the 5.1 is very well done. If a grunt is behind you, or an elite is to the left, you can clearly tell where it is due to which speaker it comes out of. The music crecendos and decrecendos, which makes the game considerably more dramatic.

Suggestions: Make Halo 2, and make it online!

Overall Score: 10.0 / 10
