3DS Castlevania game may come to HD consoles
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is set to release this March on the 3DS, but the game could come to other platforms as a full HD title. Konami UK studio head Dave Cox says the team would "absolutely" consider an high-definition release, and it wouldnt even be very difficult to make.
Apparently the game has been rendered in HD from the start. "We created everything in high definition - all the textures, all the levels, high-poly models, everything - and we kind of shrunk it all down into the 3DS," Cox told CVG. "Then we lost bones from characters, you know, we dropped the resolution of the textures and everything to make it fit. At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere."
Asked if that meant the studio would ever consider putting it out on HD consoles, he said, "Absolutely, yeah. We would consider it. We want as many people to play it as possible. Obviously we have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo right now though and theyve been very supportive of the product."
Whatever terms preclude an HD version must not be permanently binding, so we might see a day come when Mirror of Fate will be playable on other platforms. Its tie-in namesake, Lords of Shadow 2, does not have a date set.
