Outlaw Golf
Overall: Its golf, but its golf that someone that doesn't care for the "sport" could play. The sideshow really increases the appeal of the game, and has had friends and myself laughing time and time again.
Gameplay: Underneath the sideshow, there is a very good golf game. The golf engine is one of the best that I've played in 15 years of gaming.
Graphics: The graphics definately take advantage of the xbox hardware. Trees and water looks great. The characters are animated extremely well also, all the makings of a great golf game.
Audio: The sound is great, but that is coming from my crappy sound system. The sound of the club hitting the ball and the different sounds depending on where the ball lands are very well done. The announcer can get annoying after a while, but that is a common annoyance with most sports games now.
Suggestions: More fight animations, more between-hole animations, and more courses. Oh, and maybe a few more characters. Add in some more phrases from the commentator, or add another commentator.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Overall: Excellent game. Really you can't say enough words to describe what a great experience that this game provides. If you own xbox, it is a must-have.
Gameplay: The gameplay is excellent for this game. I love sneaking around enemies and grabbing them, then bringing them to a secluded spot before knocking them out. No game has matched this one, IMO.
Graphics: Probably the best graphics that I have seen for any game. The use of shadow and light are great, and I believe this is the first game that I've noticed shadows being cast on a player. I love the way that you still see the lenses on Sam's goggles and the radio on his back to give you some clue of where he is.
Audio: I don't have a great sound sytem for my tv. Hell, I don't even have a great tv, but you can tell that something good is going on here. I dropped my rating because the speakers on this tv can't do the game justice.
Suggestions: How about a sequel.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Dead to Rights
Overall: I was very hyped about coming into this game. Although extremely good, there are the aspects that you just can't understand why they made it into the game. What was such a promising, hyped game should fall into obscurity within a few months.
Gameplay: The gameplay is for the most part, well done. I like the weapons system, and that you can't just run and gun all the time. The hand-to-hand fighting system, on the other hand is simply too repetitive. Whenever I'm in an area with hand to hand, I can't help but think about how much better the game would have been with it cleaned up. In the prison level, the shortcoming become so obvious, as you see the same combination punches, kicks, and throws so much you DO get absolutely sick of the game. I almost didn't want to continue, having that combined with the insane amount of enemies that you must fight with the terrible system in the larger areas. It seems impossible when as soon as you finish the combo on one enemy you have another kicking your back before you can even turn around or hit the block button. Also, responsiveness to the block button should have also been looked at.
Graphics: Visually, this game isn't better than a PS2 game. If it is developed to be xbox exclusive for a few months, they should have at least cleaned it up a bit. The camera angles are f'n HORRID. The camera always turns the way that you don't want it to, and in the stages where the camera is fixed, you never see exactly what you need to be seeing. Turning the camera manually can be done, but in a good game of this type, shouldn't be required so much.
Audio: Sound is decent. You can tell what gun is what by the sound that comes from it. Voice acting is ok . . . nothing special, really.
Suggestions: Clean up the camera angles. The hand-to-hand system needs to be improved on greatly. GRAPHICS should have been improved. Why buy an xbox if I'm only going to have ps2 quality graphics. Give us something to look forward to. I think that with the problems in this game I've seen just in the first few levels you may have made me not want to buy a sequel.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 NCAA Football 2003
Overall: There is no sport like College Football. The atmosphere is simply amazing. No money BS, only pride driving the athletes. I was very excited to pick up this game, and I wasn't disappointed. This is definately the best football game that I've ever played.
Gameplay: This game uses the Madden system of play, which is already a recipe for success. Everything seems to be here, even the ability to run the option, which adds much to the game. The only big problem is the receiver catching passes in heavy coverage.
Graphics: The level of visual detail in this game is simply amazing. Players get dirt on their uniforms during the game, and in closeups you can even see the mesh holes in their jersey. Absolutely Top-Notch
Audio: The sounds of College Football are there . . . the bands, the crowd, chants, and hits. Only drawback is not having enough commentary.
Suggestions: Add in some more commentary. Plus the players actual names should be in the game. Its a big pain to try and rename players manually. I doubt there would be a college football player that would object to having their name in the game.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 WWF Raw
Overall: I'm a big professional wrestling fan, and have been for over 18 years. When I saw video and screenshots for this game, they looked amazing. But after playing, my opinion changed drastically.
Gameplay: The gameplay seemed awkward. This is definately the hardest wrestling game that I've ever played, and that goes into Japanese Imports like the Fire Pro and Toukon Retsuden series. It seems that too many grapples are broken, and it breaks down into a punch and kick contest, which a wrestling game shouldn't be (Yes, I know that is basically what WWF, not WWE, is now).
Graphics: The grahpics are great. It animates smoothly, and the wrestlers actually sell when damage is done to them!!! The only problem is that many of the wrestlers look nothing like their actual counterparts. It takes away from the realism, and definately should be worked on.
Audio: The wrestler entrances are extremely well done, the music is there, which is always a plus. In game the sounds are just as well done.
Suggestions: Oh, where to start? Work on the grappling engine . . . this is wrestling, not kickboxing. If you win a grapple, you should definately get some kind of reward out of it, and not a reversal all the time. You need the typical gimmick matches, as that is what WWF is about now. Wrestlers should look more like the real life versions. Updated rosters for the new one don't need to be mentioned, but I'll mention them anyway.
Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved
Overall: I got my xbox last week from a friend. I got 5 games from him, and this is the game I've been playing as much as possible. This game is simply amazing. I'm not the biggest fan of fps and I can say that this game is simply amazing. The best I've played for xbox so far. This is the closest to a perfect game I have ever played.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great. It really does seem like the game works perfectly on the xbox controls. I couldn't really as for anything to be changed as far as controls.
Graphics: This game is full of eye-candy. Everything looks better than any other game I've seen before. I can't wait to see what improvements could possibly be made for Halo Next.
Audio: The background music and soundtrack is simply amazing. It rivals one from any hollywood movie out there. The sounds of the guns, explosions, vehicles, covenant, etc. are all well done also.
Suggestions: I WANT MORE!
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Hunter: The Reckoning
Overall: Its just an ok game. Seems that everyone hypes it more than it deserves to be hyped to me. Basically centers around your character killing thousands of people . . . thats all that it basically is. Nothing more.
Gameplay: Just the same thing over and over and over again for hours on end. The story was lackluster and really did nothing for me.
Graphics: I can say that is is a very good looking game, and I like that every enemy doesn't just die. Sometimes they are decapitated, limbs fall off, or their cut into at their torso.
Audio: The background music is a strong point of the game. It sounded really good throughout the time I played.
Suggestions: More variety . . . bosses sometimes seemed too hard. More playable characters.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10
