NBA Live 2002
Overall: This is the single best basketball game on the market for XBox. I've played NBA2K and Inside Drive and both games are no where near as good all around as Live. That's NOT to say that this game is for everyone however, as "Arcade Style" junkies will find Inside Drive and 2K much more entertaining.
Gameplay: The Gameplay is the single best aspect of NBA Live 2002. Right down to Post play, running Pick and Rolls, Isolations, and spreading it out for the three, it's as 'realistic' as they come. I've had the most fun using Boston run and gun style, driving up court, going to the hoop to draw the double and kicking it out to the open man, or swinging it around the court to the open man in the corner. Never have I seen that as realistically portrayed as in this game.
I've been playing this game since the day it came out (had it preordered) and I've not been able to put it down except for the other occasional title that crossed my hands.
Graphics: Visually it lacks an aweful lot. I mean the players appear more life like than in any other NBA Live title to date, but their are flaws. The players upperbodies are entirely too stiff, many players features are too similar with the exception of their face, and you'd think by now they'd realize they should differ the body sizes and jumping abilities more. I've blocked Shaq hooks and Kobe layups with the likes of Joe Forte and Paul Pierce!
Audio: Listening to this game is so nausiating that I have to listen to my Panasonic Discman during the games. The commentary is repetative, uninformative, and droll. If they want me to fall asleep any more by simply listening to that garbage, they could just put soundbytes from the late Bob Ross!
Suggestions: My comments are simple, short and sweet.
Tweak the player motions to bring their upperbodies to the motion levels that their lower bodies seem.
FIX THE DAMNED COMMENTARY AND CROWD!!
Allow future draft picks to be traded, change the 'point' system on the cap to monetairy, and make it like real life...where good players don't want to play on crap teams unless they get a boat load of cash!
You should have to win to make people want to play for you.
Along those lines, add in fluctuating crowds depending on how good your team does and the market its in.
Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Fifa World Cup 2002
Overall: This is a terrific soccer game, HOWEVER it's overall appeal is strictly for Soccer Fanatics. It hold's some appeal for the overall sport's freak like myself, however I'd probably be as equally excited to play a Emporer's Cup, Sumo Wrestling game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is SUPERB. The longer you play the game the better and more realistic it seems to get. Once you've mastered it on the lower levels and move on to the higher ones, the score's seem to drop and more reflect real Soccer if you are trying to play defensively. The only thing that hurts this title is it's lack of features and options outside of the World Cup itself. There are no club leagues, and I saw someone once mention that it would be a good idea to have qualifying for the Cup.
Graphics: Absolutely STUNNING. I must say this is perhaps the single best sports title i've seen for the X-Box thus far, with the sole exception of NFL Fever. The amount of detail in everything from the Fields and Stadiums to the players and crowd is enormous.
Audio: The sounds in World Cup are great, life like, thrilling and addicting but it is lacking something. I was thinking what that could be when I was watching the South Korea/Italy game start this morning. It's missing more chants. It has the basic Ole chant, however I don't recall it having any others. It would be nice to have some of the others like Allez, whatever the heck the Korean team was chanting and other national chants. (The teams without chants could just have the basic Ole...since it seems many countries like our very own USA do not have chant's of our own.)
Note, i've not even mentioned the commentary yet, as that is TERRIFIC. It hardly seems repetative at all, I just wish the English guys they got seemed nearly as excited about Goal's as that Spanish guy does on Univision or Telemundo or whatever it is I see him on!
Suggestions: I would sugguest that in the next installment, they either add Club Team/MLS Options first and foremost. It would add to the lasting appeal of the game and would make it a terrific long term game.
Adding a 'Create a player' thing would be nice too, as most other sports genre's seem to have them.
I think it's near imperative to add to the commentary as that was one of the greatest aspects of the game, and one i think most developers seem to neglect. As they add to that, the new Chants would be terrific to make the game even more exciting.
