Gunvalkyrie

Overall: A fast paced 3rd person shooter set in the future. You're part of some sort of commando squad investigating the disappearance of colonists. The story takes a backseat to the action though.

Gameplay: Great controls! It just takes awhile to get the hang of them. Just watch the demo of the computer playing the game and try to mimic it. If you don't learn to play the game this way it will pretty much suck. Battling the enemies from the ground is boring and a lot more difficult.

Graphics: Sharp looking graphics. No real complaints here. The monsters don't vary much and the same with the bosses. They do look pretty cool though. Weapons effects are also decent.

Audio: Sound is okay. I don't recall the monster noises to be all that special. The weapon sound effects are pretty good though.

Suggestions: I believe it is impossible to collect all the upgrades. It would have been nice to have a new game plus option allowing you to start over again with all the upgrades of your previous game. Also there isn't much of a point to using the guy. All of the upgrades went to the girl.

Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Azurik: Rise of Perathia

Overall: An adventure/rpg. You are Azurik the protector of the elemental disks. The disks are shattered and scattered all over the world and it is your job to find them and bring balance. A bit of a plot twist at the end, but overall a crappy story. Oh yeah and you're blue, like a smurf.

Gameplay: Kinda like Zelda but without the fun. Terrible camera system takes away from gameplay. Playing the game requires a lot of time consuming running around. The combat system is nothing special. I did enjoy the boss battles though.

Graphics: The graphics are nice and colorful. The enemy design is also fairly good. Some levels are fairly massive. There are some clipping issues in certain places.

Audio: I think i enjoyed the voice acting. It wasn't great though. It wasn't around the level of say Halo or any Blizzard game. The sound effects were adequate nothing more.

Overall Score: 4.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell

Overall: Stealth focused game with a bit more realism than most other titles. The main character is Sam Fischer who works for a secret government agency.

Gameplay: Like i said before its about stealth not action. You can go in guns blazing but its a lot easier to sneak around. Use lighting and the enviroment to your advantage and you should have no problem. Aiming can be a bit difficult. The gadgets are fun to use and extremely helpful.

Graphics: Incredible. One of the most beautiful games on the Xbox. The lighting system made my jaw drop at points. Sam is well animated. Weapon effects and explosions are also well done.

Audio: Once again very nice. Weapon sounds are great as well as ambient noise. The voice acting is superb. Sam sounds pretty tough and really helps you feel like you can kick some ass.

Suggestions: I can't really see multiplayer working for this game. At least not a deathmatch where everyone is Sam Fischer. Maybe one where you have someone randomly assigned to be Sam and the rest of the players are soldiers. The soldiers guard while Sam tries to infiltrate. The Soldiers use superior firepower and radio coordination, and Sam uses his stealth and gadgets.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge

Overall: Arcade style flight simulator. Loads of fun. I found the single player to be kind of short, but the addition of Xbox live support makes up for that.

Gameplay: Missions range from races, search and destroy, dogfights, base defend, escort, and find and retrieve. The controls are tight and easy to get the hang of. The special moves also come in handy.

Graphics: Large massive outdoor areas. Nicely detailed planes and enviroments. I wasn't that impressed by the cutscenes, but that is a minor gripe.

Audio: From the steady thudding of a machine to the sputtering of a dying engine the sound is terrific. The music and voice acting are also well done. I found the female voices to be fairly annoying though.

Suggestions: Plane customization would have been nice.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire

Overall: Maybe worth a rental, but nothing more. The singleplayer is lacking, and i really didn't try the multiplayer.

Gameplay: The game is mainly a first person shooter. However certain missions have you driving through city streets or standing out of the sunroof of a car and shooting things. Each one is fun, but gets boring extremely fast. Probably why they switch between the three every so often.

Graphics: It looks like i'm playing a ps2 game. Wait, i am. Nothing special here. The Xbox hardware really isn't put to any use.

Audio: Voice acting is ok. Weapon effects and music are mediocre as well. Nothing special here either. Could be worse though.

Suggestions: hell if I know.

Overall Score: 5.0 / 10 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Overall: I had a lot of fun with this game, and would play it again given the chance. The story was great. I can't say i cared a lot about the characters, but it had a great twist in the plot. A bit slow moving in parts and the load times were a pain, but all in all a great game. After you see both endings there is not much replay value. Though i have heard that new missions will be available via download on Xbox live sometime in the future.

Gameplay: I didn't mind the lack of control in the combat mode as much as others. The way you could set up your attacks and then watch them occur made it seem a little more cinematic. The level up system is fairly nice and has an auto option if you do not want to be bothered with the details of character upgrades. Mini games are available on almost any planet and are a good way of making money if not a fun diversion from the main game.

Graphics: Beautiful graphics, but I've seen better. The character design is nice, but the NPC variety is lacking. Its like six planets populated by all the same people.

Audio: Great voice acting and music. Weapon effects are equally as good. Not really much to say here. They were adequate.

Suggestions: I think they are already planning downloadable missions via Xbox Live.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Jet Set Radio Future

Overall: I was a big fan of the Jet Grind Radio for the dreamcast and was blown away by this game. Everything seems to have been made bigger and better.

Gameplay: Gameplay is the same as in the first one with some differences. You no longer have to do a sequence of analog stick movements to spraypaint. Also there is no time limit to levels anymore. This gives you the freedom to explore the gigantic levels. New moves have also been added. YOu can now use ten spraypaint cans as a type of nitro boost, and you can also grind up walls.

Graphics: I've always loved cel shading. Its not for everybody, but its definetly for me. The graphics are great. Its like you are playing a cartoon. Levels are much bigger than in JGR and really show off the power of the xbox.

Audio: The sound effects are well done. And with the exception of a few songs that i can't stand to hear, the soundtrack is awesome.

Suggestions: The game is great but once you finish the game and unlock everything there isn't anything for a single person to do. Live support, while probably impossible, would be nice.

Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 Battle Engine: Aquila

Overall: I don't understand why everyone likes this game. I read several reviews before renting it and everyone was raving about it. It turned out to be a major let down on every feature that was boasted.

Gameplay: You run around in this spider mech/jet shooting enemies. Aparently you are supposed to get 40 some missions of this. However, many of the missions are the exact same mission with a slightly different challenge. Battles are massive but in the end its just eye candy. You can't deviate from your objective to explore the battlefield for more than a minute or so or you will lose the mission.

Graphics: Battles are huge and they look cool but that is about it. Models are mediocre, and the cutscenes look like crap.

Audio: No complaints as far as sound effects go. The voice acting i found slightly annoying. Overall nothing to rave about.

Suggestions: There isn't really that much freedom given to the player. A wider variety in weapons and customization would have been great.

Overall Score: 4.0 / 10 Spider-Man

Overall: I enjoyed this game. The story is slightly different than the movie's, and it diverts in some areas to allow for more levels and villains. Like most games though once you beat it there isn't much to do. Recommended as a rental.

Gameplay: Plays very similarly to all the other 3d spiderman games. Controls are great and web swinging is a blast. The combat system is well done and it easily allows you to take on multiple enemies at once. Over time combos and special moves are learned. While challenging in some areas, overall the game is fairly easy.

Graphics: A step up from previous spiderman games, but nothing incredible on the Xbox. Not surprising seeing as how it is also on the ps2 and gamecube. Swinging over manhattan looks great though.

Audio: Music and sound effects are what you would expect. Voice acting is great though. Boasting the cast of the movie it is something special. Especially Bruce Campbell as the narrator during the training level.

Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved

Overall: Probably the best overall Xbox game to date. I've beaten the game on every difficulty setting and I still play the game every so often. Great action and an awesome story to back it up.

Gameplay: Almost all gameplay takes place in the first person. Driving vehicles is in the third. Control is good but takes a while to get used to when driving. The marine and enemy AI is great. The battles that take place are incredible. Marines take cover, Elites dodge, and grunts lob grenades with an almost lifelike feel.
If you can get a systemlink game going you won't be sorry. An incredible amount of fun.

Graphics: Great graphics. They hold up even when you get incredibly close to objects. The detail is astounding. You can zoom in on almost any human weapon and read things off the model. Explosions and weapons fire look great. The physics have a part in this. Blowing up groups of enemies with a grenade can produce a variety of results.

Audio: Voice acting, music, ambient noise, sound effects. All of these are incredible. The enemies sound great and after a while you will be able to relate a noise to what the alien is doing.

Suggestions: A patch for Xbox live of course! not gonna happen though.

Overall Score: 10.0 / 10
