Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix
Overall: Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is a first person game with attitude. Not a game suitible for children under 17 years of age, because of very graphic violence, such as body dismemberment. Now for the game which is based on a man named John Mullins, who is apart of a U.N. anti-terrorist group called the shop. And your mission is to stop a terrorist group from unleashing a deadly genetic virus upon the world.
Gameplay: The controls in this game are very easy to use. And after learning them which will take about thirty minutes, they will be very fluid in their use and you will be a killing machine. Some parts of the first missions are a little bit buggy but then they clear up later on and then you get really into the game. For multiplayer gameplay I will say for me it is the best xbox live first person shooter title I have played and it is very worth the money just for the online play. And the gameplay will go on for a long while with the roughly 50+ missions for single player, and a random mission generator. And that generator is a fun feature, but it could have been improved just a little bit more. But the real core of the game is the multi player for online which is just amazing, with alot of team work, very similar to counter strike. One draw back for multiplayer is that it needs some sort of ethernet cord put into the Xbox in order to play the game with some friends and it will only work system link, but that does not effect the game very much because it is still very very very very fun to play.
Graphics: Here is where some reall issues come into play. The visuals on most of the big out door jungle, desert, snow levels are that the draw distance is not very good at all. The problem with that is that it makes sniping a big problem and you wont be able to see an enemy until it is to late and your staring at his feet on the ground bleeding. I mean this problem could have been easily spotted and I dont know why it was not, But it really does not effect the game very much but it is just a little thing that gets on my nerves a little bit. For the rest of the visuals, the indoor enviorments are well done and the character models are done realisticly. And there are alot of great multiplayer maps that are indoor and semi outddor which are amazing to play with twelve people. So overall the visuals are done rather nicely, one more little thing which is not to big. When you kill an enemy the death is great and messy but some times the bodies just look a little creepy when dead. I mean the way their bodies lie down on the ground some times its alittle buggy. But still the deaths are very real and they are very satisifying when you have a great shot you just want to admire your great job and then walk away respected.
Audio: The sounds in Double Helix are very well done, the guns sound real and death sounds are good. All the sounds you would expect are there. Sometimes the glass break sound is a little delayed but besides that it is very good.
Suggestions: If another sequel comes out for this series then it would look good with more Xbox standard graphics and a deeper single player game. I really like the real life look of the gore, and that should be even more damage sensitive with some more cool looking body dismemberment. And for the last thing the multiplayer is amazing and if you add to that, by some inovative online game types and more people, you would have an unbelievable game on your hands. And instead of realeasing for computer first it should be more focused just for the Xbox sice the Xbox system can do some amazing things with the online voice chatting and the power of the graphics engine.
