NHL Rivals 2004
Overall: This game isn't very realistic, as it is more of an arcade style of play, and I personally feel the gameplay is awfull. On the plus side the visuals were good, soundtrack is decent, and there are lots of multiplayer modes.
However I'll stick with Espn 2004.
Gameplay: The lack of customizable options is a great downfall for rivals. You can't edit your controls :( I also don't like the bodychecking, as there is like a homing device on the player you're trying to hit, and when you hit them usually they don't give up the puck. The puck physics are kinda off as well, as numerous time I'd take a shot from right beside the net and the puck would bouce off the post straight up into the air. Multiplayer has lots of unique modes which is good.
Graphics: The graphics are very polished, and look good. Most animations are good except sometimes they look kinda goofy.
Audio: I hate the whistle sound they picked it's really annoying. Other than that all the sounds are good and in place, nothing to complain about. Announcers don't suck either.
Suggestions: make basic functions such as controls customizable.
Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
Overall: crimson skies is a fun non-realistic shooter with planes. The online is awesome and it allows a guest to play as well. The graphics sound and gameplay are all wonderfully done.
Gameplay: the planes are easy to fly, but provide a challenge to veteran flyers as well with special moves. hit detection is right on, and it is just very solid gameplay. I wish there was a first person view as your plane often obstructs your view of the enemy.
Graphics: The planes and enviroment are done well, but sometimes it's hard to see enemy planes as they sometimes blend in with the enviroment.
Audio: The machine guns, rockets and all other sound effects are good, and the menu music goes well with the game. Nothing to complain about here, but also nothing special.
Suggestions: allow more guests to play online.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 True Crime: Streets Of L.A.
Overall: this is way better than gta. I like the rpg aspect of it, as you train to improve your aiming, driving, and fighting skills. The soundtrck is awesome as well.
Gameplay: the cotrols are easy once you get used to them. I like how when you aim it gows in slow motion for a couple seconds, becasue aiming with the joysticks is kinda akward. the driving is decnt as well, and the fights are intense.
Graphics: Everything looks good, the cut scences couldve been done better, but other than that its good. You can see very far in game as well.
Audio: This game has the best soundtrack ever in my opinon with bands like trapt, snoop dogg, and many others. Even if you dont like the soundtrack you can mix in your own songs or just play your own. Christopher Walkin is also featured in this game, and the voice acting is superb. I don't really like the engine sounds but other than that its awesome.
Suggestions: improve the cut scence visuals, and thats it!!
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
Overall: its a pretty fun game, with multiple ways to complete missions. sometimes the ai is annoying as they see you through walls and stuff but other then that its great.
Gameplay: I find it difficult to aim with the joysticks (I would prefer a mouse and keyboard) but once i got used to them it was fine. The controls are pretty easy and responsive as well.
Graphics: Quality graphics as in most xbox games. i thought they did a nice job witht the physics when you kill someone, as they recat realisticly with the enviroment.
Audio: Good voice acting and good weapon sounds are what stand out in this game. As for the other sounds, everything is what you would expect.
Suggestions: make more hitmans!
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 TimeSplitters 2
Overall: Is it just me or is this game an exact copy of Goldeneye for N64. This is the worst game I have played for Xbox. I'm sure that this game was supposed to be originally released for N64.
Gameplay: It sux. No one uses Glodeneye controls, we're all used to Halo and other decent first person shooters.
Graphics: Again N64 graphics. It looks like they tried to make it look realistic, but sadly failed. It's hard to distinguish what something is until you get closer up to it. I could've made better cinematics with Flash Mx.
Audio: The music is lame and gets annoying. Again Goldeneye sounds are used. I know this because I have Goldeneye. The weapons dont really sound realistic, but what can you expect from N64, o wait this game is for Xbox.
Suggestions: I thought you were supposed to make games on Discs not CRAP!
Overall Score: 2.0 / 10 Fuzion Frenzy
Overall: all the minigames are the same. Collect orbs and smash opponens. I rented this game thinking the demo was fun but found only repetitiveness.
Gameplay: Two buttons is pretty easy to learn, and also leaves you with not much to do in the game except jump and attack.
Graphics: Graphics are respectable and allow you to clearly distinguish objects. Camera angles are good and allow everyone to see whats happening.
Audio: The music is annoying as well as the anouncer. The voices are as out of place as Yu Gi Oh. That kid is like 10 and sounds like he's 30.
Suggestions: Make a better varity of minigames like in Mario Party.
Overall Score: 4.0 / 10 Amped 2
Overall: amped 2 is a whole lot better then amped one. It looks, feels, and handles alot better, and makes for a fun game, with challenging levels. Also theres snowsakting!!!
Gameplay: i like how you use the right thumbstick to grab, and all the moves are simple to do. your character interacts cleanly with the enviroment meaning no going through walls and what not.
Graphics: Everything is crisp and clear, the snow looks grea, as well as your boarder. theres ice in some parts and it looks real as well.
Audio: you hear every turn that you make, grind and whatever else you do with great effects. It allows a custom soundtrack as in teh original which is nice.
Suggestions: make more snowskating!!!
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3
Overall: This game is everything I expected. Great graphics, gameplay, and online. The only thing I don't like is how you can't have 2 player offline co-op on the same xbox, like on ghost recon.
Gameplay: I'd prefer a mouse and keyboard, but its obviously a console game so the joysticks took a little getting used to again and then it was fine. In offline campaign I love how your team responds to the voice commands as well.
Graphics: some of the animations for walking look kida dumb, but other than that it looks great, and the night and thermal vison are cool as well.
Audio: this game sounds great especially since i got speakers now. All the guns and explosions sound cool, and voice acting is good as well.
Suggestions: make more downloadable content, and there shouldve been a offline 2 player co-op mode.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 ESPN NHL Hockey 2K4
Overall: The best hockey sim out there. Its also alot of fun. It has cool mini games like air hockey and the skills competitions.
Gameplay: Very good responsive controls. I used to play EA before so I had to get used to not being able to pass through people and always body checking, so it is more realistic.
Graphics: Sharp visuals indeed. The ice is shiny at the begining but then gets dull towards the end of the period, lots of little details like that make it good.
Audio: I only have my TV speakers so... ya... It probably sounds good im guessing, except the songs suck, and you should be able to play music from your playlist.
Suggestions: Alow the user to use their own playlists instead of listening to old crappy cliche songs. Great gaem though.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 The Thing
Overall: I'm a fan of the movie, and this game is a continuation of the movie, so it was fun and interesting to play it and see what happens. Everyone should watch the movie "The Thing" It's sweet. There is also an interesting element in the game, where you can test your teamates to see if they're infected.
Gameplay: The controls are easy, but could have been fine tuned some more, to be more resonsive and accurate. The levels are pretty easy to figure out, and flow toghether nicely.
Graphics: The graphics create an erie atmoshphere, but are always crisp and clear. The monsters may look kinda crappy, or stupid but thats how they're supposed to look, as the movie was made in the 80's or so, and the game is continuing the story
Audio: Crisp footsteps are made when you walk, and the monsters make scary noises, and guns sound how they should as well.
Suggestions: Make a prequal to the thing, but spend more time making the gameplay a bit better.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Overall: Star Wars Knights of the Old republic is the first great RPG for the Xbox. What could be cooler then becoming the most pwerfull Jdei in the universe and having your own starship to fly around in? It has evrything that makes a great RPG such as intriguing characters, a good battle system, cool enviroments and an awsome story. On top of all this, the story is non-linear so you can choose whether to be good or evil and what quests to persue. In all Kotor has a winning formula, and its sales seem to agree.
Gameplay: The unique battle system featured in Kotor is a big relief to the traditional ones used in most RPG's. Instead of loading a new screen for a battle, they are all real time, but still allow you to plan a strategy with use of a pause battle button, whichs lets you give commands to your party. I especially liked how you can see your enemies before you are attacked or attack, instead of frustratingly walking around and getting randomly attacked like in most RPG's. Outside of battle the controls are responsive and easy.
Graphics: The graphics in Kotor are clear and crisp, however they are not spectactular. The enviroments are lush and realistic, but the character models and cinematics could use some polishing up. I understand because of the huge eniviroments and multiple moving objects in each section, that amazing graphics would not be possible without major amounts of lag. The graphics look like playstation 2 quality which isn't a bad thing, but when it comes to graphics, Xbox rules.
Audio: I know for those people who use their stock TV speakers sound is not really that important. I, however used to have surround speakers and a subwoofer. (They broke 1 month after warrenty argh.) With Xbox's 5.1 digital support the sound on Kotor was amazing. You feel the rumble of ships and hear them all around you when you're being attacked. One time I looked to the right cause I heard a ship coming from that direction haha. The quality of sound is crisp and clear and the soundrack is appropiate for all situations. If you don't have surround sound I recommend getting it if you can afford it.
Suggestions: Kotor could have some more planets, but I'm just getting greedy. I wish that you could customize your character a little more like height, tatoos, facial features and that sort of thing, but o well.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10
