Medal of Honor: Frontline

Overall: EA you lazy bastards. If you had to port this game why couldn't you have ported the PC Allied Assault version. Come on! Still not a bad game though for a WWII game i'll take what i can get.

Gameplay: From the first level i though it would be great. The most intense opening level in a game i have ever played. All the boards where your fighting along side american and british troops were great. But the solo missions where you were running down hallways didn't seem any different than other FPS games.

Graphics: This wouldn't have been a problem if it had been ported from the PC but it came from the playstation 2. Their a little better than PS2 but not that much. Framerate is smoother though which is good. Theres a couple death animations that are bad though. The most frequent one is the guy will stand there for a few seconds and then drop. I found myself wasting ammo on a guy already dead. The other is when you shoot a guy in the upper body and sometimes the head it will knock him off his feet but the animation for that death moves in slow motion which is kinda stupid looking. My biggest complaint with the graphics are the grenade, rocket and tank round explosions. After the openin board I thought there would be some really cool looking explosions that would add to the war time atmosphere. But no, the explosions are horrible. Grenades and rockets just shoot 3 small rocks in different directions on impact. I mean come one. I'm not looking for a big firey explosion but how about kicking up some dirt and debrie. On the second level when I was tossing grenades at a tank I thought there was a bug in the game and the grenades were disappearing. But no, they were just weak. I was really disappointed by that.

Audio: Best sound on a video game I have ever heard. Sounded right out of Saving Private Ryan. Theres nothing bad I can say about the sound. Amazing.

Suggestions: Come on guys. Sure you made money off the thing but you would have made boat loads if you had ported Allied Assault in stead of Frontline. I was very disapppointed by this game but I didn't care because I though Battlefield 1942 was still coming out then. Now since thats cancelled I still have the need for a good WWII shooter for xbox.

Overall Score: 7.0 / 10 Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon

Overall: Intense is the word I would use to describe it. Not the game for everyone because it's not the average shoot em' up FPS. If you like charging through chucking grenades and lighting people up with bullets then you might not be into it as some people seem to be saying. Look at the people who gave the game a bad gameplay rating... they stated their bigger fans of unreal and mechassault style shooters. So if you absolutely love those 2 games or that style then this may not be the game for you.

Gameplay: I haven't had this much fun since halo. The part I love the most about this is there is countless ways you could go about beating the missions. Split your team up to tackle 2 objectives at once, stay as a group and recon the area silently picking off troops, charge camps with a supressing fire strategy. I could go on. Again I want to stress that this is for people who like strategy, who really get into the idea of crouching and moving in on enemies. If you like games where your equiped with about 10 different rocket launchers and heavey machine guns, and can withstand 50 missles to your head then you will not like this. This game requires patience and strategy. There will be boards where you may not have a single kill. Your team is smart and good and will mop up enemies very effectively. Some people may not like that their hoggin' them all but I got a kick out of it. I just love the fact that at any moment you could be taken out. All it takes is one good shot in the head or if you aren't careful you could walk into a squad of enemies and get taken out. This is as close to real combat as you can get without leaving your living room (I still prefer paintball) I love squad combat, my favorite missions in halo were the ones where you were fighting along side the marines. Your team AI is great. They'll watch your back, radio in enemy locations, run for cover when fired upon and best of all their bada**'s. I mean these guys are good, sure after a battle you may have had no kills and you wish they left you some but it's just fun to watch these guys, and it really adds to the realism. I'm not saying you'll go through the game without racking up kills yourself because you will. There are some intense action sequences where you'll find a squad of a couple tanks and 20 troops haeding towards your postion. And to know that they can take you out as easily as you can take them out just makes your heart race. You'll find yourself takin' out enemies fast, launch a couple grenades, ordering some supressing fire to your squad and then running in to pick off as many troops as quickly as possible. I could keep going on about this game but i won't. Rent it first to see if you can get down with this type of FPS and if you like it, you'll find yourself buying it very quickly. It's addictive.

Graphics: hmmmm... well. Not the best. Some say they could be better but it's hard to tell if they could because the boards are so big and alot of work was put into AI. In this type of game you can't have a bad frame rate because it could get your killed if you aiming reticle is skipping. That would really hurt game play. Heres the bad: can't see your gun, not a big deal but it's always cool to see. I think the reason they may not have put it in was because it would have hurt the framerate. People would expect the gun to have a high polygon count because it's so close but that would probably hurt game play. And to try and put a low detail gun in there would really just make the graphics worse off. But again once you get into the thick of the action you don't even notice. Also there are some squared off objects in the game but thats not too noticable. Tree branches are 2d but they put in so many branches it's hard to tell. The worst part of the graphics are the cars and closed windows. Cars aren't exactely scaled well and they look kinda cheesy, the windows are just a graphic on the wall and a bad one at that. Looks like something out of Doom. Regardless there are some good features about the graphics that make those almost unnoticable. Your squad looks great and moves smoothly and so does the enemy. Coolest part is the trees, grass and bushes sway in the wind. Now that is a really nice touch and adds a lot to the gameplay. You can't tell in you saw an enemy move or if that was just a branch on a tree. When you have nightvision on everything looks good, haha. Some people say they don't like the grenade explosions but I do. Their not as good as halo or mechassault but their still pretty good. The quickness of the explosion coupled with the sound effect really makes it seem like that had to hurt. I'm a freak about graphics and it's a huge part of me liking a game but this game is soo good that the little negatives about the graphics do not matter at all.

Audio: Not as good as MOH but still very good. Gunshots sound great and the sound of bullets hitting around you sound real. The sound of your squad moving sounds really well and so does when they speak. With surround sound it adds so much more especially to the gameplay. If an enemy is shooting at you from behind you will really hear it coming from behind you. As your sneaking up on an enemy position one of your squad makes will whisper to you that he's got your back. For the first few days I was playing this I actually turned around on my sofa. The explosions are the best part. If a grenade goes off near you the sound fades and loses treble. You go temporarily deaf and it makes the action a little more chaotic because it's kinda disorienting since you rely so much on sound to tell where the enemy is. Just like real war.

Suggestions: Well, i don't know in this case if theres much you could have done to the graphics without hurting framrate. But add in the gun and smooth everything up a bit. Also, you carry some very powerful weapons but the enemies all react the same. It would have been cool to see a ragdoll effect when you launch a grenade into a group of enemies. That nitpicking though. And finally make another ghotst recon game! I'm looking forward to rainbow six but I really like the huge outdoor fighting senarios.

Overall Score: 8.0 / 10 MechAssault

Overall: I bought this game after many have said it was the best xbox game of the year. After one night of playing it i can't see how.

Gameplay: Gameplay is terrible. The first level I thought the game was cool but it's the same thing through out. Run through guns blazing and circle strafing around mechs. I beat this game the night I got it. I see no reason to play the game again because it's all the same. Other reviews say that you need to use strategy because of the risk of overheating. Not so. It takes a long time to overheat and if you do just circle strafe. I'm sorry but i don't call that strategy. Little tanks should not take more than 1 missle from a 40 foot mech to destroy them. Heck, you should have been able to stomp on them and kick them. Plus those tanks moved like racecars. True it's only a video game but that just made it annoying. Battling the mechs was ok but like I said all you have to do is circle strafe. And i know there are plenty of shooter games were you play a one man army but in this game it didn't sit well for me. I think that the idea that a merc army would rely on a single mech to take out an entire planet's defences is ridiculous. Sure you did have a squad and they got terminated but theres no reason they wouldn't send in an invasion force. I think that would make the game 100% better if it was an all out war where you were fighting along side other mechs, tanks and troops. That could be seen as being picky but I do need a little bit of a believable storyline in my games. And I don't care about teaming up with people on xbox live because all it is once again is circle strafing. Boring.

Graphics: Graphics are great. I'm not going to be one of those people who give one aspect of a game a low score just because they didn't like another. Everything looks good, the enviroments, the mechs and especially the explosions. Best exllosions i've seen on the xbox or probably any other console to date.

Audio: Sound is pretty good too. The explosions sound incredible and with a good sound system your house will shake.

Suggestions: Add some variation with the levels. Last half of the game was fighting around lava. Believable story line and make the action less repetitive.
