Overall: This game just seems to continue to keep getting worse ever since 2002. The gameplay is slowly sliding down but at least the franchise mode is getting a bit more interesting.
Gameplay: This is what has killed this game this year. It seems all the defence knows how to do is body check and that just ruins the game.
Graphics: Not bad... not great. Ea sports will never really have a 5/5 for graphics on xbox but its not bad considering its a port.
Sound: I guess it would have to be the best part of the game.. the commentarry isnt too annoying and its not as whacky as previous years.

Overall: Now THIS is a hockey game. Wow, EA Sports you've done it again! the gameplay in this was absolutly amazing, i couldnt put my controller down. This was the most visualy sound game i have ever seen on the Xbox. And the soundtrack was outstanding. I absolutly loved this game. but they're were a few flaws in the game. for one, there was no "create a player" and the "create a team" was much better in nhl2004, in this case i think that they took a step backwards.
Gameplay: Gameplay was phenomenal. although it is pretty easy to score. and the goaltending was more realistic in NHL 2004. the online play was sketchy for me, i only played about 3 games online and every one of them had a serious case of lag. but overall the gameplay is whats making me buy this game.
Graphics: Flawless, u cant find a game with better visuals then this. ESPN is a joke compared to the realism involved with NHL 2005
Sound: the sound was great i thought, i loved the soundtrack and being able to pick which songs u wanted to hear. BUT one thing that really botherd me is that when the puck hit the post it barely made a sound. i kno in real hockey that the puck doesnt make the huge DING off the crossbar but i still like that when im playing agaisnt my friends, makes it for a more enjoyable experiance i think, but thats just a minor problem.
Suggestions: Keep up the good work

Overall: Overall i think this game was great. A huge improvement from last years game control wise and visually it is the best hockey game i have ever seen on any system. Online the game is very well done as well with only a slight bit of lag from time to time. I love the free 4 all game type and the world cup addition. I wish there had been a few more mini games in NHL 2005. But overall this is still the best realistic hockey game i have ever played.
Gameplay: Very nice gameplay. I like how the slapshot and wrist shots have been seperated to 2 different buttons. The passing in the game is a big improvement from last years game and makes the game much more enjoyable. What i disliked about this game was the computer players on your team not being able to keep up with you and enter the zone in a 2 on 1 for example. If you were on a clear 2 on 1 your computer teamate would stop at the blue line and wait. This really hurt the gameplay. As well it seemed to easy to score on yourself when passing the puck from the goalie. At minimum, once a game when passing the puck out it would hit one of your own players and go back in the net. This would ruin the game for me over and over and make me so mad i wouldnt want to finish the game.
Graphics: This game looks amazing. The player and coaches faces are unbeliebably accurate. Along with the beautiful rink and how real the players move in the game, this game has a very real game experience. Above and beyond everything visually in this game is easily the hits. EA has done them beautifully and it just gave the game a little extra.
Sound: The sounds of the hits, shotsm stick checks, body checks, crowd, and puck hitting the boards is just awesome. Sounds just like real life. The announcers in the game are a bit outdated and sound the same as in games from years past.
