Resonance of Fate Dated for March 16
Apparently the fine folks at Sega and tri-Ace either aren’t scared of Final Fantasy XIII, or weren’t paying attention to Square Enix’s plans. They’ve announced that Resonance of Fate, the latest RPG from the developer behind the Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile series, will be released in North America on March 17, just one week after Final Fantasy XIII hits retail.
Resonance of Fate takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth, where a mysterious toxin has made most of the planet uninhabitable. You’ll take control of a group of mercenaries working for a private military firm, and the intrigue begins when an enormous environmental purifier that’s supporting the last remnants of humanity begins to malfunction.
The game received a strong 34 out 40 score in Famitsu, although they warned the battle system could be difficult to get into. Our own hands-on time found Resonance of Fate to have some surprisingly complicated battle mechanics too, so we’ll see how willing American gamers will be to give it a shot -- especially with a juggernaut like Final Fantasy XIII right on its heels.
