Microsoft Bullish Ahead of GTA IV Release
The Xbox 360 supply situation is improving, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg told Next-Gen this week. The firm added in a post-NPD statement that it is “confident consumers will soon be able to find the Xbox 360 SKU they seek, in time for the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, which we expect to be one of the biggest titles of the year with huge impact on the Xbox 360 platform.”
The company said that hardware sales aren’t all that makes a winning platform, touting the Xbox 360’s winning software portfolio and community built around Xbox Live, while noting that overall consumer spending on 360 continues to be greater than that of PS3 or Wii.
Microsoft said that a total of $332 million was spent on the Xbox 360 in the US during February, far more than the $235 million spent on PS3 and the $283 million spent on Wii.
It added that, according to NPD data, the 360’s installed base still leads in the territory. “The Xbox 360 platform now has a U.S. installed base of 9.6 million, the PS3 has 3.8 million and the Wii has 8.1 million.”
