Rock Band DLC is Live
The first downloadable content for Rock Band is now live and available for 360 owners. A total of 15 tracks are available for purchase, with new tracks planned for download every week for an entire year. The star of the first week of downloads is the Metallica Pack. While Metallica’s overplayed "Enter Sandman" made it onto the game disc, Harmonix has tapped into the band’s older work for downloadable content. You can’t go wrong with "Ride the Lightning," "…And Justice for All," or "Blackened." Each will give your drummer a workout and are easily among the three best songs for instrumentalists in Rock Band. You can buy the Metallica Pack for $5.49 (440 Microsoft Points on 360) or the individual songs for $1.99 (160 MP).
Other gems from today’s release include the Queens of the Stone Age Pack and "Joker & the Thief" by Wolfmother. The biggest disappointment? "My Sharona," a cover of the classic song from The Knack. It’s surprisingly boring and not a particularly good cover on top of that.
Once downloaded, all of the new DLC becomes available in every mode of Rock Band. In the solo tour, you can visit the arena in Tokyo to play any downloaded content. In Band World Tour, all DLC is considered unlocked. That means they can be selected when creating a setlist and will show up randomly in mystery setlists.
