Codemasters Pays Tribute to Colin McRae

Codemasters has paid tribute to rally driver Colin McRae - face of the popular racing series - after he died in a helicopter crash in Scotland, alongside his five-year-old son. The UK publisher said he was a "true legend" who will never be forgotten and that everyone at the company is "shocked and saddened by his death". In a statement today, Codemasters said: "The loss of Colin McRae is deeply distressing. That it involved his son and another so young makes it even more tragic. Our thoughts are with his family and those closest to him and we share in their pain." He was also considered "part of the Codemasters family" after working on the McRae series of game for more than years. A spokesman added that "he always took a keen interest in the game experience, wanting to make sure it was without equal in its portrayal of the sport". Codemasters said that his contribution was inspirational and he brought his technical expertise and passion for rally driving to each and every McRae game and that "through the popularity of those games, he brought a whole new audience to the sport itself". Finally, the statement added: "Codemasters’ relationship with Colin began through Jim, David and Richard Darling and their condolences, along with ours, are passed to Colin’s family. We are heavy of heart at his passing but we are also brimming with pride at knowing him and to have played a small role in his life." 39-year-old McRae was flying his Twin Squirrel helicopter, after a visit to a village near his home on Saturday, when it crashed. Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident. The accident also claimed the lives of his son Johnny’s six-year-old friend Ben Porcelli and family-friend Graeme Duncan, 37.
