Saints Row PS3 Canned, Sequel Confirmed
“Saints Row on PS3, which was expected in Q1, has been cancelled. We are rolling the resources onto Saints Row 2,” said CFO Edward Zinser in a quarterly conference call. The game is slated for release in 2008 as an “anchor title” for THQ on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game is in development by Volition, developer of the original Saints Row, which launched in August 2006. THQ said today that it has shipped over 1.4 million units of the Xbox 360 version of the game worldwide. THQ recently released Saints Row as a reduced-price Xbox 360 Platinum Hits title. THQ CEO Brian Farrell added that having a simultaneous multiplatform release for Saints Row 2 took precedence over developing what would essentially be a port. “We’ve done great things for our brands by putting them in the right time frame," he said. "The most important thing for the Saints Row franchise is to have a simultaneous shipment into a larger installed base next year. That’s what we’re looking for with Saints Row 2.” He added, “It was a right brand decision.”Source: http://www.next-gen.biz/
