EA Extends Stay In Middle Earth
Today Electronic Arts announced that it has renewed its license to release games set within the world of J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings through 2008. EA has already released several games based on Peter Jacksons theatrical adaptations of The Lord of the Rings since 2001, and development is currently underway on a new LOTR title set for release in 2008. "We look forward to our next project with New Line Cinema and Tolkien Enterprises scheduled to ship in 2008," said Frank Gibeau, EAs executive VP and general manager of North American publishing. "We have a long history of making great games with EA and are thrilled to extend our longstanding relationship," said David Imhoff, New Lines senior executive VP of worldwide licensing and merchandising. "We look forward to working closely with EA to create even more compelling Lord of the Rings adventures in the future." Fans of Lord of the Rings games will remember EA quietly put its RPG The White Council on indefinite hold earlier this year. EA isnt revealing any details on this new 2008 title, yet, but even if it is what has become of White Council, the name would most likely be changed to avoid any negative correlation to a game put on indefinite hold.Source: http://www.ign.com
