Overlord Announced
Being the good guy can be such a drag. Saving the world from some unrelenting evil is all well and good, but once in a while, wouldn't it be nice to see things from the other (ie, dark) side -- you know, just to gain some perspective. According to Codemasters and Triumph Studios, gamers who want to indulge their more malevolent nature will have the opportunity to do so with the revelation of Overlord, an original next-generation action adventure title set in a "twisted fantasy world where players have the choice to be evil...or really evil!" According to the companies, players will be controlling the Overlord, a shadowy figure who is heir to a "legacy of the evil." The player's actions will determine if they rise to become the all-powerful Overlord which depends on how much of a "bad ass" (yes, this is what Codemasters and Triumph said) they want to be. The game promises to have "plenty of black humor and dark irony" as befitting a title that seeks to turn classic fantasy scenarios into "twisted parodies" of themselves. One of the unique features of Overlord involves the introduction of the Minions, impish creatures who will do your evil bidding. So committed to your reign of terror are these underlings that they will follow your every whim and instruction no matter how despotic or life-threatening to themselves. According to Lennart Sas, Director at Triumph Studios, Overlord "offers a wealth of freedom and allows players to experience classic fantasy like never before." With the Minions, players can "loot and pillage their way through the game's world" or even resist temptation and play a more "virtuous" character (but really what fun is that?). Sas went on to state that Overlord truly allows player choices to shape the game world. Barry Jafrato, Senior VP of Brand for Codemasters, added that Overlord provides "innovative and compelling game mechanics wrapped in a scenario that's played out with plenty of black humor." The game is tentatively scheduled for release for the PC and Xbox 360 in summer 2007. Black humor and twisted fantasy scenarios? We'll definitely be keeping an evil eye on this one.Source: http://xbox360.ign.com
