Perfect Dark Novel Precedes Xbox 360 Launch

Today's Xbox 360 news from Microsoft isn't exactly the news many gamers were hoping for or expecting, but it's interesting news nonetheless: the Perfect Dark world is going to be the subject of three novels, one of which will release in October, about one month before Perfect Dark Zero and the Xbox 360 launch at retail. Tor Books signed the licensing agreement with Microsoft for the publishing rights to the three Perfect Dark novels. The first novel, Perfect Dark: Initial Vector, will ship in October and describe the world of Agent Joanna Dark in advance of Perfect Dark Zero. Microsoft had a similar strategy with the outstanding Halo-based novels (all of which were great reads, if you haven't checked them out already). Perfect Dark: Initial Vector will retail for $12.95 when it hits stores on October 4. It, along with the other two to-be-named novels, will answer questions about, and take fans into, the Perfect Dark universe. The novel will be written by Greg Rucka, a thriller novelist and commonly considered one of the "Big Three" writers at DC Comics. Perfect Dark Zero, the game, is a prequel to the N64 first-person shooter Perfect Dark. In this prequel, players can choose between a story-driven single-player campaign and various multiplayer options, including four-player split screen and co-operative action. Set in the year 2020, three years before the original Perfect Dark, Perfect Dark Zero puts gamers in the heels of Agent Joanna Dark in a story where the sci-fi action centers on espionage, conspiracy and a mysterious global conflict.
