Ubisoft First Quarter Sales
French Publisher Ubisoft revealed today their first quarter sales for fiscal year 2004-2005 have reached $75.8 million, which is down 6.1% from the first quarter sales for fiscal year 2003-2004 when the company reached $80.1 million. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow which sold 2.7 million copies on all platforms including a million this quarter alone and FarCry ended up as the top-selling PC game in April and May. It was also a top-five seller in June in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Ubisoft’s success has landed them as a top-five independent publisher in Europe and was ranked seventh in the U.S. Their success can be partly attributed to their large employee base. They hired 300 people in 2003-2004, with 100 of them having been hired earlier this year. In order to achieve some kind of success in the industry, you have to have good games. At the most recent E3 in May, Ubisoft received 13 awards including seven for their upcoming title Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (Best of Show, Best PC Game, and Best Action/Adventure Game). Brother in Arms (Best Action PC Game), and Prince of Persia 2 (working title) for Best Action Game for PS2 and Xbox. "Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow, which has sold nearly 3 million copies with the release of the GameCube version in July, is a great success and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is now one of the top brands in the industry," said Yves Guillemot, President and CEO of Ubisoft. "The release of Far Cry on the PC has been a genuine success as well, with more than 730,000 units sold in just four months. These figures underscore the strong potential for the console versions to be released later in the fiscal year. And once again this year, the E3 2004 Expo paid tribute to the exceptional quality of our studios, whose work represents a guarantee of our future success."
