Return To Castle Wolfenstein Gets A Sequel
id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead has let slip that a sequel to Return To Castle Wolfenstein is in development. Speaking in an interview with G4/Tech TV, seemingly recorded prior to Doom III going gold last Wednesday, Hollenshead mentioned a sequel to RTCW whilst commenting on what id Software plans to do next. "Return to Castle Wolfenstein... basically the sequel to that is a project that's already under works at another studio," he responded as he ran over which franchises id wouldn't personally be developing next. As regular readers know, John Carmack and co. will be developing a new intellectual property (IP) next rather than returning to Doom, Quake or another familiar franchise. Hollenshead says as much, commenting that "[id will] be going through the decision-making process on that one [...] over the next few months". In the meantime, news of RTCW2's development has led some to question a job advert placed on the website of UK-based Splash Damage, the developer responsible for standalone Wolfenstein multiplayer add-on Enemy Territory, and development of Doom III's multiplayer maps. "In a continuation of our successful collaboration with id Software and Activision we have started production of a new full game based on the cutting-edge Doom 3 engine," the ad reads. "We are looking for High-Poly 3D Modellers, a Texture Artist and a Level Designer to join us as full-time salaried staff with excellent benefits at our offices in London, England," With id notoriously difficult to pin down for comment on issues like this, it could be a while before we hear more, but it's certainly nice to hear that we have more Wolfenstein to look forward to down the line, and if Splash Damage has been made developer, it's a real coup for them as well.Source: http://www.eurogamer.net
