Day 1 Studios Picks Up Jon Kimmich From MS
Former Microsoft Game Studios lead project planner Jon Kimmich has announced that he is leaving the company to join MechAssault developer Day 1 Studios, which is already working on a next-generation title for Xbox 2. Kimmich will be producer and director of business development at the studio, and the company has confirmed that one of his first responsibilities will be leading a development team working on a next-gen console title. Before joining Day 1, Kimmich spent over 15 years at Microsoft, and his involvement at Microsoft Game Studios has included helping in the establishment of Gas Powered Games and Big Huge Games, spearheading the acquisition of FASA Interactive and Bungie, and securing intellectual property and development talent prior to the launch of the Xbox. Day 1 studios is seen as one of Microsofts key external development partners, along with studios such as Lionhead, Bizarre Creations and Bioware, thanks to its work on MechAssault and MechAssault 2 for the Xbox. The studio is believed to have been one of the first to receive Xbox 2 development kits, and has previously advertised on its website for staff to work on a next-generation title. "I am one of those lucky people whose hobby and career are the same," commented Kimmich on his new role. "Ive always admired Day 1s talented staff, their commitment to product quality and their management style. Together we can produce some extraordinary results, sure to impress both our publishing partners and our loyal gaming fan base."Source: http://www.gamesindustry.biz
