Kotor II Producer Interview

There’s no doubt Mira is easy on the eyes, but this initial impression isn’t the full story. She’s not the kind of woman who uses her looks to get ahead. Indeed, her chosen profession, bounty hunter, is one that would surely challenge either gender of any race. As you might expect, she’s motivated by a mercenary desire for material gain, particularly in the form of cold, hard cash. Nonetheless, she chooses not to sell her services as a contract killer for hire, or to perform assignments for the Exchange. Although her past is definitely not free from violence, she has only taken the lives of others when her own was in jeopardy, and even then, not eagerly. When necessary however, she is lethal with her weapon of choice, a wrist-mounted rocket launcher that can take out one enemy or many. Currently in development at Obsidian Entertainment, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords will give us the chance to meet Mira within a new adventure that begins approximately five years after the events of its celebrated predecessor. The powerful, malevolent Sith Lords stand poised to destroy the Old Republic. They have incessantly and successfully hunted their Jedi nemeses, to the point where only one may remain. That’s you, of course, but before you can save the galaxy, you must first reconnect with the Force and resolve your desire to follow the light or give in to the dark side. We recently had the opportunity to learn much more from three core team members. Mike Gallo is the Producer for publisher LucasArts, while Chris Avellone is the Lead Designer and Chris Parker the in-house Producer at Obsidian. Jonric: To start off with an overview of The Sith Lords and its main features and points of interest, what kind of game is it, and what types of gameplay experience you are aiming to provide? Mike Gallo:Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is the next chapter to the award winning game of 2003 featuring an all-new more perilous storyline, new characters, classes, locations and Force powers. Approximately five years after the events of the original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Jedi, nearly brought to an end by the Sith, are on the brink of extinction. The galaxy is in turmoil and the Republic no longer has the strength to protect its worlds. Sith Assassins are hunting the one they believe to be the last of the Jedi, the one who holds the key to the fate of the galaxy - you. In addition to an all-new storyline, The Sith Lords will feature a host of memorable returning characters along with sinister new villains. Using over 30 new Force powers, players can turn weak-minded enemies against one another in combat with Force Confusion, or see through doors and view character alignment with Force Sight. You can explore and battle your way through seven diverse worlds including the mining colony of Peragus, and Telos, a wasteland being rebuilt after its destruction during the war in the original game. You create a Jedi from the start, with access to specific Jedi abilities, and you split your party to use several characters from your team for concurrent side quests. Tasked with protecting the Old Republic and the Jedi Order from its ultimate demise, players will be challenged with choosing the light side of the Force or surrendering to the lure of the Dark Side. All the while, the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance... Go here for the entire interview.
