Chatting About The Punisher
For three decades, Marvels Punisher has been blasting through the criminal element in comic books. He even survived a near fatal Dolph Lundgren movie adaptation. Now it seems that the Punisher has finally crawled out of the recesses of obscurity and shot his way straight into the spotlight. With a popular comic series and a new hit movie under his belt, Frank Castles battle against crime finally makes its way to next-gen game consoles later this year courtesy of THQ and Volition. In order to stay faithful to the character, THQ enlisted the help of Jimmy Palmiotti and Garth Ennis, two of the writers responsible for the Punishers recent surge in popularity. Jimmy Palmiotti has worked in the comic industry for years as both an artist and a writer. You can check out the latest on all of Jimmys projects on his website and read his work every month on Monolith and Hawkman from DC Comics. We recently had the chance to sit with him to discuss his involvement with the upcoming Punisher game, the difficulties of writing for video games, and whats coming down the road. GameSpy: So Jimmy, what can you tell us about the story behind the upcoming Punisher game? Palmiotti: Well, at its most basic, Garth (Ennis) and I cover the Punishers origin, then take the story a bit further with Frank Castle tracking down the people behind ordering the hit on his family and the why of the situation. We will be covering lot of what was presented in the Marvel Punisher series we both worked on, and at the same time creating a new storyline as well. We have a lot of surprises in store for the diehard fans, and the totally new players will be able to get into the groove of the game right away. No problem. There are so many insane levels to this game, its going to keep the game player involved for a long time … happily I might add.
