Threats of Law Suits Censors GTA
Take Two Interactive has announced that future copies of GTA Vice City will be without certain lines that have been perceived as racist. This is in response to a Haitian-American group and Michael Bloomberg, New York City Mayor, threatening to take action against the company. In particular they are asking for the line "Kill all the Haitians!" to be removed. Take Two has agreed to this request. The Haitian-Americans in New York have had a couple though years. Many have been shot in recent years by by police. The groups are looking to stop what is perceived by them to be encouraging racism against them. Take Two gave in relatively quickly and agreed to remove the line in question. But they also made some statements in defense of their game. Take Two mentioned that they had a right to create realistic games for adults. They pointed to the fact that the game is rated M for mature and should be played by adults or minors that have parents approval. Take Two said, "it must be recognized that video games have evolved as an adult medium, not unlike literature, movies and music."
