SOULCALIBUR®II WINS BEST FIGHTING GAME AT E3 2003 San Jose, Calif., June 16, 2003 – Judges for this year’s Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2003 proudly announced today that Namco Ltd.’s franchise title, SOULCALIBUR®II, has earned the highly coveted award for “Best Fighting Game” of the year and thus, further solidifies the “Soul” franchise as a first-rate 3-D weapons-based fighter. Slated for release in the U.S. on August 26, 2003, SOUCALIBUR®II will be available on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube and the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft. Following in the footsteps of one of the most celebrated weapons-based fighters of all time, SOULCALIBUR®II delivers a refreshing new rendition of the original SOULCALIBUR® (1996) which features improved game play and graphics, a variety of game modes and the highly anticipated debut of console exclusive guest characters: Link, Spawn and Heihachi for the Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox® and PlayStation®2, respectively. All three versions will feature Necrid, a Todd McFarlane character created specifically for SOULCALIBUR®II. “The original SOULCALIBUR® caused a shift in the fighting genre because it so wonderfully captured the essence of weapons-based combat and made for an unparalleled experience…that was of course, until SOULCALIBUR®II” stated Tom Russo, Game Critics Awards judge and director of program development for G4 Television, the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week television network dedicated to the world of interactive entertainment. “This award humbly reflects the team at Namco’s persistence and dedication to advance and perfect this style of game.” “We are thrilled with the recent recognition from the Game Critics Awards,” said Stacey Hirata, Director of Marketing for Namco Hometek Inc. “The fighting genre has a lot of tough competition and we are extremely honored to receive this award.” The Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 have been announced and can be viewed at the E3 Awards Web site: http://www.e3awards.com/win.html.Source: http://www.xboxaddict.com/
