John Tobias Talks About Tao Feng

Gamespy spoke with John Tobias , in hopes to tell us what’s going on with his upcoming Xbox title Tao Feng. Also in the interview Tobias talks about his old stomping grounds at Midway and how his new studio, Studio Gigante was formed. Here’s a clip:
GameSpy: What really sets Tao Feng apart from other fighting games -- a Tekken or a Virtua Fighter or a Soul Calibur? John Tobias: The differences in Tao Feng are really kind of broad swipes at the genre. It’s things like interacting with the environment and using the environment in the fights. I know that other games have said, "look, you can break the environment!" and typically there are like one or two things in the environment you can break. With Tao Feng we’ve made it so the environments can play a role in damaging your opponent. Also, we wanted the player to feel that when he started a game and got to the end of it that he’d busted up the environment and damaged his opponent, so it’s all about the visual impact that plays. That’s a primary difference. The other difference is, again, because of the expanse of the environment, once you start playing you’re not limited to close-quarters combat. You can spread out and do running attacks and jumping attacks -- that was important for us.
