Microsoft Announces Quantum Redshift
Futuristic Racing Game Combines the Best of the Racing and Action Genres REDMOND, Wash., March 12-- Microsoft® Game Studios today expanded its racing portfolio with the announcement of a new racing title to join the likes of ``Project Gotham Racing(TM)" and "RalliSport Challenge." "Quantum Redshift(TM)," a futuristic racing game developed by Curly Monsters Ltd. exclusively for the Xbox(TM) video game system, is due for release in fall 2002. Set approximately 100 years in the future, the game features a new organized racing tournament of speed and daring, on tracks from all over the world. Gamers choose one of seven unique character pilots, and ``Quantum Redshift'' challenges them to display a rare combination of raw racing skill and savvy weapons strategy to achieve ultimate victory. However, as players progress through the game, more characters and tracks become unlocked, providing even greater challenges for them. This new title has something for racing fans as well as action/fighting fans. Characters are equipped with a special ship and weapons. Each character has a counterpart nemesis, whose only goal is revenge through taunting, tormenting and attempting to sabotage the pilot at every turn. The nemesis storylines, ranging from political adversaries to estranged lovers, develop through cut scenes and animation throughout the game. The importance placed on defeating, and even humiliating, the character's nemesis is designed to please both racing and action gamers. "Quantum Redshift" puts gamers in command of the most extreme, hyperspeed racing machines that travel in excess of 650 mph and are able to interact with the terrain. As players progress, they unlock not only new characters but also new speeds (five in all), providing a racing experience like no other. In addition, the vehicles are equipped with highly advanced offensive and defensive weapons systems, allowing characters to attack each other with everything from plasma bolts to tidal waves. Players will have the opportunity to race on a total of 16 detail-laden tracks and compete in up to four-player split-screen against their friends.
