Evolve will have a solo mode that teaches strategy and rewards with XP
In Evolve, four players team together to hunt down a single player controlled monster… or is the monster hunting them? Whichever is the case, developer Turtle Rock Studios understands that not everyone is ready for the online multiplayer experience. That’s why there’s a fully featured offline solo mode, so players have a chance to practice their moves and familiarize themselves with the different characters before jumping online.
This video demonstrates solo mode from both sides, starting with the monster’s point of view. Playing as a Wraith, the player has to learn to make good use of combination moves, dashes, and evasion. In Defense mode, the monster has a number of minions fighting at its side, so rely on them for fodder or distraction. Not only is solo mode beneficial for learning how to play, and testing out new strategies, but all experience and unlocks are applied to the whole game. Meaning all character unlocks and weapon upgrades earned in solo mode are applied to online multiplayer.
Later on, the video shifts to the Hunters’ point of view. What makes solo mode unique is that the player has the ability to switch between characters on the fly, making the player a sort of one-person army. If there’s an impressive combo you want to execute, like throwing down traps so that the monster gets stuck on powerful mines, then the player can coordinate between the characters to make it happen.
You can experience all the excitement by watching the 22 minute video. Evolve is set to release on February 10th for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
