New GTA V videos confirm first-person mode, highlight enhanced visuals
NOTE: The videos below showcase the PS4 version of the game, but gamers can expect the same visuals on Xbox One. Both versions have been confirmed by Rockstar to run at 30-frames-per-second, 1080p resolution.
Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be getting a first-person mode when it arrives on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 18. "We could’ve put it in the [last-gen version] but we were too busy making the game," Rob Nelson, Rockstar Games animation director told IGN in an interview.
Polygon ranked GTA 5 among its top 10 games of 2013. The scale of the game, and the living world it created for the player, looks completely different from the first-person perspective.
"Youre eye-level, down with the people on the street," Nelson told IGN in the announcement. "As you walk past them, you see them sort of look at you out of the corner of their eye. All of this stuff existed in the game before — lots of little details."
Also confirmed for the Windows PC release is 4K resolution, a resolution nearly four times as high as the 1080p versions of the game coming to PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version of GTA 5 arrives Jan. 27, 2015.
The PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One re-releases of Grand Theft Auto 5 have some obvious and expected differences — like a new first-person mode and better resolution — but some of the visual improvements are a bit more subtle. Cacti are pricklier, for example, and depth of field makes GTA 5s cinematics look, well, more cinematic.
For a concise look at how the PS4 version of the game will improve upon the PS3 version — applicable for the Xbox One and PC versions, as well — watch the above comparison video. Youll see shinier vehicles, more dense foliage and greater detail in general.
