GTA Online launches tomorrow at 7 am ET, requires 'small' title update
Grand Theft Auto 5s ambitious online multiplayer mode will hit tomorrow morning, Oct. 1, when a "small downloadable" title update for the game is expected to go live on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network at about 7 a.m. ET, Rockstar announced on its website today.
For players considering getting up early or staying up late to play GTA Online, Rockstar calls the release timing a "general timeframe," so plan accordingly.
On its website, Rockstar answers a few other questions about Grand Theft Auto Online, explaining that the online multiplayer mayhem — from a narrative perspective — takes place a few months before the events of Grand Theft Auto 5s single-player story. Rockstar also recaps a few previous announcements about GTA Onlines character customization, its regularly updated collection of Jobs and its efforts to diminish griefing online.
Rockstar also attempts to allay fears about GTA Onlines microtransactions, which let players acquire in-game cash by spending real-world money.
"No one can begin GTA Online and simply spend a lot of money out of the gate to get a leg up," Rockstar says. "You will have to earn your stripes and play to unlock access to the aspirational clothes, guns and other items. Please also remember that in GTA Online, hustling to afford the finer things by earning GTA$ doing robberies, stick-ups, winning races and other profitable activities is a fun gameplay experience rather than ever being a ‘grind."
