Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter reaches 900K goal in 48 hours
The Kickstarter fundraising drive for Mighty No. 9, the new action game from Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, passed its $900,000 goal [yesterday] morning, less than 48 hours after the project went live.
Inafune announced the new game and its Kickstarter fundraiser at a panel on Saturday evening at PAX Prime. Pitched as a classic Japanese side-scrolling action game from "an all-star team of veteran Mega Man devs," Mighty No. 9 promises 8-bit and 16-bit era gameplay with new, modern gameplay mechanics. Fan feedback from supporters will play a large role in the development of the game, from characters to visual design to mechanics.
Mighty No. 9, developed by Comcept and Inti Creates, is currently slated for Windows PC. Current stretch goals include versions of the game for Mac and Linux at $1.35 million and console versions for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U at the $2.5 million mark.
The drives next stretch goal will add two stages to the game, should pledges meet $1.2 million.
