Next-generation Tomb Raider game already "well into development"
Square Enix CEO Phil Rogers has confirmed a sequel to Tomb Raider, a franchise whose fate was questioned after the company cited disappointing sales for the reboot. While a follow-up has already been name-dropped, Rogers confirms that the sequel is not only happening, but its "well into development" as well. He specifically calls it a "next-generation" sequel.
Rogers says that "we are a games company and today we devote most of our time and effort into developing new and rich gameplay experiences, worlds and characters." In an open letter (via Joystiq), he says that "were not abandoning core, triple-A console and PC games."
Still, the company will experiment with "new business models," which Rogers admits "can be frustrating for some long-time fans," However, "we need to experiment and adapt or its likely we wont always be in a position to keep investing in the ways we need, to build-out our games and offer excellence to you, our gamers."
