Modern Day sections of Assassin's Creed 4 are optional
Some gamers were peeved by the modern-day portions of the Assassins Creed games. What if you just want to go around assassinating people? Theres no time for this silly modern-day nonsense!
In an attempt to make Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag more accessible, the modern-day story has been rendered "optional." For fans that are curious about the fate of Desmond, there will still be plenty to see and do, but for everyone else that wants to go about pirating, these sequences can largely be skipped.
"In the main path, we dont go to [the modern day] too many times, we only go to it a few times," director Ashraf Ismail told Digital Spy. "But for the true fans who love that kind of stuff, there is a huge load of content in this world that’s there to kind of give homage to our fans, develop the lore even further."
Ismail described the modern-day as "all optional," so "if you dont really care, its okay. You dont have to." However, fans that choose to delve in will discover "theres tons of videos, tons of images to find, you get to see what happened to Desmond after AC3."
"We actually looked at it as fan service," Ismail added.
