E313: Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare announced
Plants vs. Zombies, the adorable gardening-based tower defense game, is getting a radical redesign. At EA’s press conference at E3 2013, the company announced Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, which throws Plants vs. Zombies "characters" like the cactus or sunflower into a third-person action game with four-person multiplayer capabilities. The game will come out first on the Xbox One, then the Xbox 360; PC and PlayStation versions have also been confirmed.
Garden Warfare won’t replace the traditional PvZ games: Plants vs. Zombies 2 is still slated for launch in July. Instead, it’s a foray into new territory, a bit like the Plants vs. Zombies Facebook gamed (sic) we saw earlier this year. Throwing disco zombies and bright vegetative character classes into a 3D quasi-shooter with a palette that mixes Battlefield and Shrek is undoubtedly a more ambitious project. It’s also one of the weirdest things we’ve ever seen.
