Robert Bowling Leaves IW & COD
For fans of the Call of Duty brand, Robert Bowling is more than likely a familiar name. The Creative Strategist for Infinity Ward, the major team behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, had been working directly with fans for years.
Now, as he announced in a single Tweet at the end of yesterday’s business day, Robert Bowling is officially walking away from Infinity Ward, Activision and Call of Duty. Here it is, from Bowling on Twitter:
"Today, I resign from my position as Creative Strategist of Call of Duty, as a lead of Infinity Ward, and as an employee of Activision."
We never envied Bowling. Sure, he was fortunate enough to work with one of this generation’s most respected development studios, but doing so brought with it a ton of challenges we can’t even imagine. Head to Bowling’s Twitter feed and look at old Tweets for a frame of reference; the guy constantly responded and fielded fan complaints, insults, criticisms and backlash. He was in the soup all day long.
Activision released a simple and amiable statement in response to the news:
"We sincerely thank Robert for his many years of service. He’s been a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team. We wish him all the best on his decision to pursue future opportunities."
As more comes on Bowling’s future projects, assuming they exist in the realm of gaming, we’ll be sure to bring the news to you. This industry type will more than likely find a good home somewhere very soon.
