(RUMOR) - Hackers Uncover CoD Mystery
Two hackers got into a game developers Xbox account and might have discovered an unannounced Call of Duty sequel. The account belonged to a developer from Treyarch, the company that made Call of Duty: Black Ops. The employees account showed that several Xbox Live friends had played Iron Wolf, a game that does not exist and hasnt been announced.
Some of the accounts spotted with Iron Wolf were playing maps that appear in Call of Duty: Black Ops, establishing Iron Wolfs relation to Call of Duty. The mystery has caused rampant speculation within gaming circles.
One popular theory is that Iron Wolf is an unannounced Call of Duty sequel that would be released in 2012. While Call of Duty games come out annually, Treyarch and fellow development company Infinity Ward alternate years when releasing sequels. After releasing Black Ops in 2010, Treyarch would be due to release their sequel in 2012. The sequel would likely be built with the engine used for Black Ops, which would explain why Black Ops maps would show up in Iron Wolf.
Another possibility is that Iron Wolf is the code name for the Call of Duty sequel Modern Warfare 3, which comes out November 8th. Its much more likely that developers would be playing this years sequel and not a game that isnt released for over a year. Games are usually developed under code names and the fact that Iron Wolf shares its initials with Modern Warfare 3 developer Infinity Ward adds to the possibility that Iron Wolf is just a fake code name.
While its unknown what Iron Wolf is, its certain Activision isnt talking. The Call of Duty distributor declined to comment on rumors about the possible Call of Duty sequel.
