MW3 to Feature Bigger, Destructible Environments

Activision opted not to reveal any details on this year’s Call of Duty release during its investors conference call yesterday, as some expected. Instead, it looks as if the game will be revealed through a combination of E3 and a magazine reveal; Activision said details on the series’ future would be forthcoming in the "coming weeks."
 Kotaku claims this year’s game will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as has been assumed for some time now. Sources have indicated to them that MW3 will continue the story set up in the previous two Modern Warfare titles and will possibly bring back characters such as Soap MacTavish and Captain Price. The game is also said to feature a "much larger, epic scale" as the potential for World War III looms on the horizon.
 
One of they key changes will be in the game’s "large, urban destructible environments" that sound more like what you’d expect from the newest Battlefield than Call of Duty. Battlefield 3 will, like its most recent predecessors, feature destructible environments, so if true this will put the two games on more even footing as far as that aspect of things goes.
 
Annual Call of Duy releases in the past have alternated between Infinity Ward and Treyarch, and this year will be no different. IW is developing MW3, though Kotaku notes it’s being supported by Sledgehammer Games and possibly Raven Software, both of which have previously been identified as contributors to the franchise.
 
One of the only things Activision has been willing to confirm about this year’s Call of Duty to date is that the Beachhead content announced earlier this year will play a big role. However, that doesn’t mean any of the existing content you’d typically see in a CoD release will be stripped out and sold back to players. As it was put during the conference call yesterday, "We are not attempting to monetize or take any experience away that currently counts as part of the value proposition of buying the game."
