MK Dev thinks MK vs SF is Inevitable
Street Fighter X Tekken has generated a ton of buzz since it was announced at Comic-Con last month, and it looks like it has once again raised the age old question: Will we ever see Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter? It looks like the match-up is "inevitable," according to Hector Sanchez, the lead producer at NetherRealms behind the upcoming new Mortal Kombat game.
Thats the word Sanchez evidently used when speaking with CVG at GamesCom, although maybe "inevitable" wasnt quite the word he was looking for, since he also went on to list the reasons it still might not happen. For one, it "depends on the success of Street Fighter X Tekken," Sanchez said. And even if that crossover title is a success, there could still be problems with tone. "Im not sure Capcom would be happy with Scorpion ripping Kens head off," Sanchez admitted.
But then again, the over-the-top fatalities were already toned down for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, and Sanchez also revealed to U.K. mag GamesMaster that Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon actually tried to get MK vs. Street Fighter made once before, having pitched it to Capcom over ten years ago.
So maybe "inevitable" isnt quite accurate, but it looks like for NetherRealms part, at least, its certainly possible. Keep those fingers crossed, 90s fighting game fanatics.
