Gears 3 Rumors Claim Series Spin-Offs
UPDATE - It didnt take long for series mastermind Cliff Bleszinski to step in and issue a denial. "Please dont trust badly translated leaked scanned info on Gears 3," he tweeted. "Lots of false info out there." So for now, its safe to assume that most or all of the rumors from the Russian scans are debunked. We might be seeing a media blackout until E3, when were bound to get real info on the game.
ORIGINAL STORY - Details on Gears of War 3 have been sparse, but if a new set of rumors is to be believed, we just hit the mother lode. VG247 reports that a set of scans from a Russian magazine have spilled the beans on gameplay and plot details for the upcoming sequel. Keep in mind, of course, that all of this is unconfirmed by Epic so far, but if it is true some spoilers abound.
The game is said to end Marcus Fenixs trilogy, but the scans suggest the game will have various spin-offs, including an entirely new genre. The game takes place a year-and-a-half after Gears 2, and events at the end of that game have caused remaining Gears to form their own small factions; Locusts have been forced into their own disparate factions as well. Adam Fenix, Marcus father, may make an appearance as a living character. Some minor characters such as Cole, Baird, and Anya will play a more major role, but Anya wont be the lone female in the game.
As for the game itself, the Lambent may take over as the primary enemy of the Gears universe. Were bound to see new weapons, and the magazine scans claim a two of them will be a drill grenade launcher, and new rifle. The game will be less difficult, since a staggering 60% of players were said not to have finished Gears 2. Finally, the multiplayer maps may shift during play, though details werent made clear on exactly how or why.
This is all firmly in the rumor category for now, but we should see at least some of it confirmed or shot down soon. E3 is coming up, and is sure to be a major part of Microsofts presence at the event. Stay tuned.
