Ubisoft Undecided on Splinter Cell Exclusivity

Splinter Cell: Conviction was released this week to enthusiastic reviews, but PlayStation 3 owners have been left out of the fun due to the title’s Xbox 360 exclusivity. But what about future games in the Splinter Cell series? Speaking with VG247, Ubisoft creative director Maxime Béland said those decisions have yet to be made by Ubisoft’s management.
"We’ll have to see what decisions are made by Ubisoft’s management in the future," Béland said, regarding where the series will end up (exclusively or not) with its next installments. "The decision for Conviction [being exclusive on 360] was purely a business move. Microsoft have been wonderful in their support for Conviction. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with them on Splinter Cell: Conviction."

Despite the game’s exclusivity, however, a PS3 version of Splinter Cell: Conviction has mysteriously popped up the CV of not one but two different Ubisoft employees. Ubisoft, however, hasn’t made any comment about any potential PS3 port.

Of course, there’s always the option of playing Conviction on the PC, although it comes with Ubisoft’s highly controversial digital rights management system that has elicited much discontent from PC gamers. Béland, however, defended the company’s anti-piracy measures. "Yes, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction will include the same DRM as all Ubisoft PC titles," he said. "We consider that protecting our PC games is vital to our business and will allow us to continue investing in the development of creative and innovative games on the PC platform."
