Elder Scrolls III : Morrowind
Overall: This a game not without its problems, but one of the best games I've played in a while. I haven't been hooked on a game like this since FFVII. The scope of this game is massive. I have played this game for many hours (read much more than 20), but I still haven't explored close to the entire map.
Gameplay: The gameplay could have been better. I thought it was nice to have an RPG where I could actually go around and do the killing myself for a change. The fighting system however is somewhat lacking and could use some sort of blocking system, and possibly a combo system (a way to cause more dammage if buttons are pressed at the right to or in the right order. Anything that might actually take skill would improve the fighting scheme.
Graphics: Visually this game looks good. The character and monster models and animation is good. What really sets Morrowind apart is the water and weather effects. I would spend time just looking up at the sky durring a thunderstorm.
Audio: The sound in this game is good. I can't say that it stand out from any other games sound wise, but the sound in this game doesn't detract from the over-all experience.
Suggestions: Play Project Ego and take notes. Look at the fighting engine and revamp the system. Make those that play your game improve thier skills to be succesful in combat.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Gunvalkyrie
Overall: This game is a good game. The level of difficulty is high enough to keep my attention, but not difficult to a point that I get frustrated. This game also excels in many different areas: The premise of the game is original, the gameplay and the graphics are excellent and the bosses are inspired.
Gameplay: I have never played a game similar to Gunvalkerie before. It is a 3 dimensional game that actually takes place in a 3 dimensional environment. I enjoyed the ability to use a jet pack combined with different combinations to navigate the maps as well as to reach otherwise unreachable areas.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are very well done. The environment and all of the little touches and techniques that the development team added made this game a work of art.
Audio: The sound in this game was good. It did what all good sound does in the game. It added to the experience without(for the most part) being noticed. The only complaint I have about the sound is a certain level where the music and background noise almost drove me insane(if you've played the game before, you'll know what I'm talking about).
Suggestions: Make a sequel. Add a larger variety of weapons as well as special attacks.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Jet Set Radio Future
Overall: This game is a good game. It's not a great game, but a really good game. This game has improved on many of the characteristics of Jet Grind Radio, but the story and the continuity or how the game progresses hurts the game. The massive size of the city with somewhat unlinear gameplay gives the game a more realistic feel to it, but it slows down and complicates the game. I believe that the cities are too expansive for this type of game.
Gameplay: The gameplay is great. The ability to grind jump and wall grind up to secret areas is great add in the ability to pull off continous combos add a lot to this game. The ability to quickly defile a wall or police officer quickly also adds value to the game play.
Graphics: The graphis are very good for this type of game. They can only do so much with cell shading and I think that JSRF has basicaly hit the peak in this regard.
Audio: The sound in this game is fairly good. The music is very appropriate and bring a lot to this game. The sound affects in this game though are just ok. They don't add or distract anything from the game.
Suggestions: Find some way to move the game along without hurting the game. Like staying away from huge expansive cities that all of the grafitti areas are really hard to get to (If you played the game for a while I think you all know the area that I'm talking about).
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
Overall: This game is interesting and original yet it seems to lack a certain quality that makes games great. The gameplay is original and fairely entertaining. The sound is pretty good and the story is off beat and funny.
Gameplay: The raw gameplay itself is only pretty good, and the puzzles are fairly good as well, but the over all game play value is higher than the total of its parts.
Graphics: The visuals are good for this type of game. I wasn't blown away by the graphics like I was in Halo of DOA3, but the graphics are still excellent.
Audio: The sound is interesting and humorous, yet it is very repetative. I do have to give this game credit for having the balls to create a main character that is unafraid to let one rip every once in a while.
Suggestions: Try to quicken the pace of your next game. It seems like I become bored of the game when I have to find guys spread out all over the place.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Overall: This game is fun and time consuming, but it is still Tony Hawk. The addition of combos that seem to last forever is a good bonus, but this game lacks originality.
Gameplay: The gameplay is good even though it is still mostly the Tony Hawk engine with some tweeks here and there.
Graphics: The game looks fairely good. Tony Hawk 2x was a lot better looking and used different techniques that this game lacks, but the look of this game still works.
Audio: The sound is fairly good. The sound track is really addictive yet repetetive. I am disappointed that this game did not include the option of using your own sountrack. That is why I gave the sound appeal a lower score.
Suggestions: Do something new and stop revamping the same engine.
Overall Score: 9.0 / 10 Halo: Combat Evolved
Overall: I was really impressed by this game. I played this game non stop until I had beaten it. I cooled off this game for a while until I started playing deathmatches and capture the flag all the time. It was like a totaly new game and experience.
Gameplay: The game play is absolutely awesome. With just the grenades alone one can either stick a plasma grenade on their enemy or throw a fragment grenade near an unsuspecting opponent. Mix in the vehicles, the challenge of killing a friend parked in a tank on foot and the many playable modes, this game is the shiz.
Graphics: The visuals in this game are very well done. The details and lighting effects are exceptional. This game set a standard for excellence in console games that only later generations of xbox games will exceed.
Audio: The sound is well done. The sound does what it should in a good game, add to the experience of the game without drawing attention to itself.
Suggestions: Add to the selection of weapons and vehicles. Eventhough I will still favor a single weapon (shotgun for the time being). New weapons and vehicles could add more strategy to the game.
Overall Score: 10.0 / 10 Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams
Overall: Overall this game is not that bad. I believe that the graphics and the especially bad controls hurt this game quite a bit. I could hardly sit down and play this game for more than half an hour. If it wasn't for the mood that was produced during the game, I wouldn't have been able to get into this game at all.
Gameplay: This games controls were just awful. I had trouble just going up to a monster and hitting it with a stick. The auto aim on the gun makes the controls bareable later in the game.
Graphics: The graphics aren't that great on this game. The developers may have made the graphics grainy to bring a mood to the game, but they still wouldn't be anything special (maybe even worse) if they tried to clean the game up.
Audio: The sound was actually fairely good in this game, but the sound is no where near as good as Halo or even Max Payne. The sound was still apropriate for this type of game.
Suggestions: Improve the controls on this game. Also to try to use more of the Xbox's power. It wouldn't hurt to also try to make a horror game totally different than just using the Resident Evil formula.
